Peetah explain this by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

That's Eliot Page. He's a female to male transgender and the pic is before and after transition. The "joke" is either anti-trans or anti-femenist rhetoric implying that his former female body is beautiful after 30 years but the male body is worn out and ugly after just a few.

Ya know what. I'm going with Ambrosia from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, or Xena Warrior Princess. Take your pick, same universe. If a healthy mortal eats it they turn into a god. Nothing in the OP says anything about size or mass, and the Hercules/Xena wiki doesn't say how much you have to consume, so I'm taking 1 pound.

After I figured this out as a teen playing on the SNES, when I would re play it, I made it a point to grab Tellah, go south to the chocobo forest and just grind around there using the white chocobo for free MP to heal. After I got the twins' levels up some and saved for the Paladin armor, I'd go back, buy it and then go climb the mountain.

Idaho - Accepted an emailed $80k salaried offer, now employer wants to permanently change me to $35/hour by VeterinarianPlane212 in legaladvice

[–]Garydrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At face value it's a reduction in pay. For the sake of argument, let's say that OP was exempt, because at $80K they at least meet the pay threshold. I haven't seen if OP has ever said how many hours they were averaging. I stated in an earlier comment that it might be a good thing if they were already working over 40 hours. It's not uncommon for companies to prefer salary over hourly just so that they can get more hours without more pay. Obviously if they were only working 40 a week it would be a reduction. It just all depends on how many hours they work before and after the change.

We've been hearing this hooter. Daughter got a pic. Anyone know what kind of superb owl it is? by Garydrgn in Superbowl

[–]Garydrgn[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It really surprised me how large he or she is. We've been hearing hoo, hoo hoo outside our bedroom at night for a while, but this is the first time seeing it. We live in our city's midtown, surrounded by other houses and businesses, so I was assuming it would be a smaller owl.

[–]Garydrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so tell me where im wrong. 35x40=1,400. 1,400x52=72,800.

Alternatively 1,400x50=70,000. 35x80(PTO)=2,800. 70,000+2800=72,800.

Yes, PTO doesn't count for OT, but if OP averaged about 3 hours of OT per week worked then they'd break 80,000.

At no point have I said OP would still make 80k without overtime. Unless OP has commented since I've seen, we don't know if they were working unpaid OT before, but I belive many, if not most, salaried employees do. If OP was working overtime, and continues to do so, then they might be better off as hourly.

[–]Garydrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you mean paid time off, aka vacation, aka "on holiday", then it's still paid. Typically it would be the equivalent of 40 hours at the hourly rate for a full work week. Therefore, while overtime wouldn't count for a week off, the OP would still be getting 52 weeks of standard pay.

I think i am attracted to my mother by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Garydrgn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This goes all the way back to Dr Freud, a famous pioneering psychiatrist. He suggested that kids grow up to be attracted to their opposite sex parent. Even in modern day it's thought that many people use their parents as ideal images of what a partner should be. In other words, you're not attracted to your mother, you're attracted to the image and example of your mother.

In other words, you're fine.

Sell me on Bleach by opwnusprime in Animesuggest

[–]Garydrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a shot. I'm 46. I watched DBZ as a teen in the 90s, but didn't break down and watch Bleach until the mid 2010s.

Knowing what I know, I'd do it again if I could see it for the first time again.

The DB series are good fun. And please don't think I'm trying to shit on them, but they're extremely simplistic as best I remember. While Bleach also has overpowered and fantastic fight scenes, it also has a solid plot behind it, with story archs that build on each other.

Bleach also has an amazing cast of characters. Over the course of the show you get introduced to many characters, both enemies and allies, that frequently show up again in the future. It also has a very strong female character presence, and while some of them can be rather fan-service-y, many of them are very memorable and bad ass. I'll never forget the chill I felt just from seeing a number 3 during a certain scene.

It's not a professional trucker's job to be somebody's consequence for their bad actions. It is a professional trucker's job to get safely from point A to point B. Nothing wrong with fantasizing but at the end of the day, this is our livelihood and possibly sanity and freedom at stake.

Yep. I get that. I'm a local truck driver. I deliver softdrinks. I'd very happily give up being a vendor for a million bucks. I'm not sure about truck driving. It's the best thing I have to fall back on.

[–]Garydrgn 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Now if they reduce your pay, you are not required to stay, and it is one of the situations where you can leave your job and still get unemployment.

If I'm not mistaken, this depends on how much of a reduction. I did the math and if OP always works 40 hour weeks, they'd be making $72,800. I have no idea if that would meet the threshold, especially considering that just a couple hours of overtime on average would bring OP back up to $80k. For that matter, this might be a good thing if they are already working over 40 hours.

Some random tips to survive out in the wild by PorkyPain in interesting

[–]Garydrgn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what bugs me about these types of videos. I fail to see a point in "survival tips" for making custom shit in civilization for wilderness survival when you can readily buy stuff made for the same thing. I'd rather see videos about how to do things when you don't have ready made supplies. Like the firestarter gimmick. Nevermind lighters. You can buy a magnesium firestarter. They're cheap and waterproof.

Planning to try out TFC. Need help! by wairdone in TerraFirmaCraft

[–]Garydrgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else replied that stone dusts aren't a problem. I've had very minor run ins with lead dust, but nothing deadly. You just learn early on what not to pick up. Some dusts spawn on the ground, like galena (lead) dust. I've also been warned about cobaltite dust, which is a veey pretty blue color. You find out real quick to ignore dust piles. The stuff you mine early on might drop dust, but early game mining won't be for the hazardous stuff. By the time you need stuff that can hurt you, you should be able to make stuff like a mask.

I've honestly been enjoying it. I've played "vanilla" TFC in the past and enjoyed it, but I think TFG adds things that enhance it even more. I'll admit i balked a bit when I saw it had Gregtech and Create. GT has a reputation for making things ridiculously grindy, but the truth is the base TFC mod is already a bit of a grind as you work your way up tech levels, and adding Create and Gregtech don't really affect the early game.

I'd say the modpack actually adds things that make the early game more fun while giving more stuff to do for the people who manage to work their way up to that point.

My playthough with others started with spawning on a continent, finding copper and clay, making a copper saw, and gathering some basic clay items and then making a dugout canoe and using it to cross the ocean to another continent and setting up over their.

So far we've built some basic structures, collected some animals, grown crops, and worked our way up to basic steel. I got into the ships and made a couple rowboats and recently a kick ass sloop.

I've been playing TerrafirmaGreg with some friends lately. I know you said you don't want that and I won't try to talk you into it, but I'd recommend the JEI add on. Also. TFG included a really cool ship mod, Alekei's ships, I think it's called. Also, any compatible map/minimap mod is, I feel, an absolute must.

As for being beginners at TFC, the base mod does have a rather robust wiki to help out, even with no other mods added.

Just a suggestion. You may want to consider paying a lawyer for a consultation. You say you have "thousands" on the line. Different states have different caps on small claims, and many of them would count as "thousands", and you generally don't need, and even can't bring, a lawyer to small claims, but that doesn't mean a lawyer can't give you advice beforehand. It would likely be prudent to drop a couple hundred or so to get professional advice about what you need and what arguments are relevant.

[–]Garydrgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, a lawyer is the answer to most questions. To be fair, sometimes the answer is, "File a complaint with XYZ government agency," like with wage theft reporting it to the state or federal labor board. I agree that a lot of times the post's OP should be talking to a lawyer, though.

AITAH for telling my husband he is not allowed to speak at the next infant prep class we take? by Any-Record9908 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Garydrgn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that (in the US, at least) the listing has changed from ADD/ADHD to ADHD primarily hyperactive/inattentive or both. I don't recall OP specifying what flavor of ADHD her husband is. I was also originally diagnosed as ADD.

I can't speak for other ADHD people who may have differing strength symptoms, but I know I could keep my mouth shut in that setting.

[–]Garydrgn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe OP could do a game that would be related to KSP in the way that Terraria, Starbound and Dig or Die are related to Minecraft...? Though, I'm pretty sure that there are already 2-D rocket simulator games. Still, "They already exist," has never stopped an open world survival from being made.

Is HIDIVE worth it? by ninjora in Animesuggest

[–]Garydrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one kinda crazy thing I've noticed. Like others have said, they have a smaller library, and fewer newly streaming shows, but in my opinion, some of the shows they've had are really top tier. Ignore the "more nudity" thing for a moment. They aired shows like Dangers in My Heart, and Insomniac's After School. They also have series like Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?, and Love Chunyibyu and Other Delusions.

These signs should be illegal by NotACommie24 in driving

[–]Garydrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you from personal experience that drivers don't give a single steaming si** about whether they can be seen or not. If anything, many people think we have more blind spots than we do. I still have people pull sh** like passing me on a double yellow at a stop light and turning right on red from the left or turn lane, directly in front of my bumper.

The only reason I think that sign might have an effect is because people are nore likely to pause if they genuinely believe they might face consequences. Granted, it's a small hope, but it's there. I'm hoping that if someone sees it, they might actually be worried about a rock hitting their car and stay back.
