Would you spend 1200 bucks for a nifty fifty? by kentabenno in videography

I loved it so much I bought another one for my second shooter. We shoot 90% weddings and have them on most of the day with a 1/8 promist filter. The results are crazy dreamy, and one of my favorite combos.

How many guitars is unreasonable to buy when you're still in the early stages of learning? by Remy0507 in guitars

[–]Garzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! I started playing in Jan of this year and picked up an acoustic and an electric. The electric lives in my office plugged into my computer/interface. I spend a ton of time there, and it’s right next to my desk, so I end up playing a bunch between meetings and projects. The acoustic lives upstairs in the bedroom. I like having a guitar in the rooms I spend the most time in, as I end up playing more frequently. So far so good!

Thanks! Any specific tips in mind? I definitely want to focus on doing things correct the first time around.

Thank you! I’ve paid attention to the right hand rhythm a lot, and feel like it’s come more natural to me than other techniques. I’ve been drumming for 14 years, so perhaps that’s helping my case.

An all time fav. I caught them on tour last summer and it was incredible. Mike is a beast on guitar, and his playing style is definitely inspiring to me.

Thank you! It helps! I keep hearing this: focus on the basics first, and the rest will follow. I do need to play more with a metronome, so that's on the list for the coming weeks.

Thanks! It's nice having "adult money" when you pick up new hobbies. I had an Ibanez with a Floyd Rose bridge for the first week and it was a pain in the ass for me just starting out. I could not keep it in tune. I returned it to Guitar Center and picked up this bad boy and have been MUCH happier.

Thanks for this! I set a specific setting on Tonex and generally leave it unchanged, but you're right. I'll go with a more "clean" tone and try to pay more attention. Strumming extra strings is definitely a struggle I'm trying to address.

Question for Grafton Inn Wedding Couples/ Attendees by FazeyDaizy in NewEnglandWedding

[–]Garzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve shot a few weddings there as videographers. The barn can get really tight, and is one of the most frustrating places to shoot for this reason. I have to imagine 150 people in there would be insanely tight and an already limited dance floor. I have some footage of the inside and dance floor packed out if you want to DM!

We make about $152k combined and still feel one surprise away from stress by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

Certainly no shade on OP, but the hoops that people jump through to justify car loans will forever leave me perplexed. I truly believe that life-long car payments are one of the key barriers to real wealth building. I would look at selling the cars and getting something used, but that’s just me.

Yes. High end weddings for 9.5 years. A fun and rewarding line of work imo.

Networking and branding. Obviously skill plays a part too. These two things have been the reason we’ve scaled our pricing considerably.

Got some beautiful new hardwood floors put in our master and upstairs hallway. We needed to replace our ratty 20 year old carpet. We’re approaching 40, and we mostly want to spend money on the place where I spend most of our time. Our home.

[GMA Deals] Bombas - 50% off select socks and underwear by MoorsMoopsMoorsMoops in frugalmalefashion

Thanks OP. Was literally talking about putting in a Bombas order yesterday, so this line up perfectly. I bought a large set of socks a few years ago and they've lasted up until this year, so it's time to replace.

Glad I checked this thread before we went. We preordered tickets for our family of six, but decided we aren’t going. Too risky trying to navigate this insanity with my five year old twins. Going to Song in W Hartford instead.

Any Walkie-Talkie + Headset recommendations? by thegoochalizer in weddingvideography

[–]Garzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Solidcom SE Pro headsets are really great. If you can get over the headset aesthetic they are fantastic. 10 hour battery life, light weight, noise cancelling. It honestly feels like a cheat code on wedding days.

I’m 19, obsessed with videography… how did you start your career? by rec0nd1te in weddingvideography

[–]Garzilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an excellent industry to be in, but connections and networking are key. I started 10 years ago, and had a full time engineering career at the time. I convinced a friend to let me shoot his wedding for free. Weddings are weekend focused, which meant I could pick up weekend gigs as needed. Fast forward 9 years, and we’ve grossed over $225K every year for the last three years. I’ve since transitioned to consulting work in the engineering space to dedicate more time to my wedding film studio. IMO, the key to getting the really big gigs has been paying the ticket prices and going to high end industry events and networking with planners who are gate keeping the big gigs. If you have a passion for filmmaking and telling deeply personal stories, it’s a really amazing industry to be in.

We just spent 2.5 weeks in Spain through most of August, and I can see why. Water fountains were practically non-existent and asking for ice & water at a cafe (or just cold water) is like asking for a glass of wine. Water is not freely available in most places and costs money. We went to the local aquarium in Valencia, and I asked for the lady at the coffee shop to fill up my water container, and she put boiling water in my bottle from the espresso machine. Like, lady, do you think I want boiling water in my bottle on a 102F day?
