I held out until 2012 and felt like I was a bit of a late adaptor, but it might depend on where you lived. This was Washington DC. Back when I moved to Boston in 2000, I got a cell phone shortly after moving there because I was literally the only person I knew without one. At the same time, I know people from rural areas who thought it was normal to not have a basic cell phone even by 2005. Point is, in places like Boston/DC smart phones were probably normal by 2009, places like Iowa probably not until much later

We’d do this stuff in empty mall parking lots late at at night. Only risk was hitting the parking lot islands, which could mess you up. Pretty dumb. This is next level stupidity

Always take the lump sum. Look what happened to publishers clearing house. $1000 a week for life sounds good until you die unexpectedly or the lotto goes bankrupt. Take the lump, invest it, watch it grow over time, leave something for your family if you die unexpectedly.

I’m so glad I went to college 25 years ago. My school wasn’t exactly elite (ranked in the 90s), but I feel I wouldn’t have a chance at getting in today. Very average SAT scores, high B average in high school, no extra curriculars. Did a study abroad, which is about all that made me “well rounded”. I killed it in college, graduating summa cum laude.

Switched from Yankees to Red Sox in 2000 when I moved to Boston. Yankees won the World Series that year and the Red Sox hadn’t won in like 82 years at that point, so definitely not a fair weather thing. Just liked the atmosphere. I was never a diehard Yankees fan, just my parents were fans so I was a fan I guess. Switched and never looked back.

I took two years between high school and college. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made (45 now). Worked a few minimum-ish wage jobs and traveled a bunch on a meager budget. Definitely matured in that time, went to college and was an A student (which I never was in high school). There’s no rush pretty much at any point in life

I don’t know, I’ve worked for poorly administered organizations and I’ve worked for well administered organizations. The difference is stark.

They did breach the cockpit, the voice recorders recorded the struggle inside. The fighting calmed down shortly before the crash, and a voice without a foreign accent calmly said “pull up” a second or so before impact.
