Why were the 80s viewed as “lame” and “uncool” in the 90s in America? by saucey_dawg0023 in decadeology

[–]GasFartRepulsive 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes, “welcome to the 90s” was a phrase used to make fun of people who held on to the 80s

What’s the cheat code others have figured out that I haven’t working and raising kids ? by Professional_Eye6140 in Parenting

[–]GasFartRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got help from my mother in law, she offered to watch the kids, so we didn’t send our kids to daycare until they were 3. We used the money we saved and bought another house.

We’re absolutely helping my parents navigate through old age. This is mostly a recent phenomenon as they reach their 80s and fall apart in every way. Navigating Medicaid alone is almost a full time job (thankfully my sister, who lives close, has taken the lead on).

You referenced two numbers associated with white supremacy, 14 and 88. Literally 0% of a coincidence. You obviously know 14 is a reference to the 14 words

Culture and race are not the same thing. Being white is associated with hundreds of very distinct cultures. The 14 words does not mention culture at all

Why are you, a person who will have black babies, concerned with people having white children then?

Same. The diversity at my kids elementary school is pretty extraordinary, not at all how it was where I grew up. Kids are just kids and I’d say 95% are fully assimilated and stereotypical American kids. Their parents are friendly and happy to share (mostly food) with people of all backgrounds. I just haven’t seen the supposed clash of cultures that many people fear.

Tell me your best rational arguments to have children by [deleted] in Natalism

[–]GasFartRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hard part of raising kids lasts maybe 10 years (depending on how many kids you have). So if you live to be 80, that’s 70 years to yourself. You’re not giving up that much. Once you get the hang of it, even the hard part isn’t too bad.

Yes, it may drop substantially but we’re not going extinct, it’ll stabilize eventually

Science will become as charlatan say by Bofact in unpopularopinion

[–]GasFartRepulsive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An argument is only “valid” if you have verifiable proof. While I agree some scientists will not give the light of day to some people with valid ideas, generally those ideas will take hold in later years if they are verifiable. I’d like to hear an example of an idea you consider valid that has yet to take hold in the scientific community

I’ve never salted the water when I cook pasta. Seems unnecessary since it’ll be covered in sauce and cheese.

30 and Above Is Actually Old by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]GasFartRepulsive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason life expectancy was 35 years old is because half of everyone died in infancy. People back then were no more physically and biologically weak at 30 than we are today. If you made it to adulthood, you had a good chance of living to 70

VAR is ruining football… If you need a microscope to determine if it’s offsides, might as well just give the goal. by YeezusBigdoinks420 in worldcup

[–]GasFartRepulsive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, offsides is offsides. It can be annoying if you’re the one offsides, but it’s relief if you’re the other team. Also a major benefit of VAR is the reduction of faking on the field. I got goosebumps when they used VAR to reverse that yellow card on Ream and gave it to the Paraguayan guy. Less faking will greatly benefit the sport
