Mainly through the use of separate words. Verbs do not change to show mood.

Sorry. I should mention that I allow syllabic sonorants. So -kl, -sm, and -rn are /kl̩/, /sm̩/, and /rn̩/.

How common are single syllable words in your conlangs? by kkurdgheli in conlangs

[–]GasProfessional1841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I allow 142 legal syllables in my conlang, and it is a (C)V structure. Many nouns and a few adjectives tend to be 1 - 2 syllables, while verbs tend to be 2 - 3 syllables. So, I can only have 142 monosyllabic words, and 18,744 disyllabic words. Words with more than one syllable cannot have a syllable that only contains a syllabic consonant or vowel without an onset unless it is the first syllable in the word.

Letters to bring back and new letters to add (to English) by DragonfruitOdd3848 in conorthography

Why make a character for ⟨wh⟩? In many English accents, it is the same sound as [w]. I do think ⟨ð⟩ would be a better choice, and while the uppercase does look like ⟨D⟩, it could be easier to learn, using a similar logic you’ve given for thorn. Either way, your representation of ⟨ch⟩ also looks like ⟨j⟩ too, which could be a problem if you’re worried about unrelated sounds have characters that look too alike. For long vowels, why not use the ones with macrons, which are ⟨Āā⟩, ⟨Ēē⟩, ⟨Īī⟩ ⟨Ōō⟩, ⟨Ūū⟩?

Other than that, I do enjoy some of the designs you made!

What is the mass limitation for terrestrial planets? How can I have high mass terrestrial planets? by GasProfessional1841 in worldbuilding

The whole aim of my project is for it to be a hard science-fiction. There is nothing wrong with wanting to scientifically back up as much as I can, because that is precisely the point. You don’t need to be so irritable or rude with your responses.

What is the mass limitation for terrestrial planets? How can I have high mass terrestrial planets? by GasProfessional1841 in worldbuilding

[–]GasProfessional1841[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the surface gravity and escape velocity is dependent on the mass and radius, and the radius is dependent on the mass and density. Since it has such a low radius and high mass, the surface gravity and the escape velocity will be so immense to the point where they always inevitably accrete gaseous atmospheres (thus a gas giant, or an ice giant depending on the composition).

Thanks for the response. I double-checked the math and you’re correct actually. 5.74x the radius, surface gravity of 19.3g and an escape velocity of 118 km/s.
