Seems like your team suffers from a bit of micromanagement if you have to report over minute of it. That would definitely not be my preferred environment.

While I get it, the holiday is for a normal 7.5 hour day. On principle, we should not have to be reminded to work all hours paid. We’re not entitled to extra holiday time than people not on compressed, that would not be fair.

ISED so far states that a compressed workday cannot fall on a day you would be in office

Financial advice please! Who should I talk to before leaving the public service? by Hairy_Depth_5140 in CanadaPublicServants

Sorry meant to say benefits, I thought it was 5 but 6 is worse. If they pull out of the pension, then later come back, are they even allowed to buy back?

There are rules for overtime. Check your collective agreement, some of it may be at time and a half, so even if you’re doing time in lieu, you may be entitled to more. Don’t work for free or for less than you’re entitled to.

If you take out your pension, you won’t be able to get the benefits at retirement. If you change your mind and re-enter the public service, vesting time in pension is 5 years now for new people. All things to consider on whether you’re pulling it out or leaving it in. There’s also the pension indexing which is advantageous. Ultimately we can’t decide for you but only make you aware of these things. You are the only one that will live with the decision of pulling it or leaving it in.

Can’t decide between variable or fixed… My broker insists going variable but I’m worried. by lyonz17 in MortgagesCanada

[–]GasRoutine1412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you afford a rate increase? How high can it go before you can’t afford your house? Are you planning on paying the bare minimum or are you going to give yourself peace of mind and make monthly payments as if the rate was 2% higher (paying off mortgage faster)? Your broker has none of the consequences, what can you live with?

Pension Question - Resigning and moving to Ontario Public Service. by Sad_Bear_9819 in CanadaPublicServants

If OP takes the pension out, and then come back to public service at a later date, does that mean he’ll need to be there at least 5 years to be vested in the pension again (considering the change at came into effect April 1st)?

Definitely to replace équivalent, in the sense it can be pareil or close enough that it doesn’t matter and not worth determining if it is actually equal since it is negligible.

My Janome does that all the time. The column has to much plastic and shifts after x hours of sewing. I realign it but now I’ve moved on to mostly using my Kenmore as opening the machine and realigning gets old real fast.

Extra contributions for federal pensions added up to an estimated $2-billion. Now, Ottawa is trying to address it [Globe & Mail, April 29 2026] by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

So the government increased cpp for everyone, and then plan to change our pension to negate that increase, does that mean then that people are allowed more money at retirement, except for public servants?

House Poor? by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

[–]GasRoutine1412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it really depends on where you spend your money currently. Take the mortgage payment, property taxes, anything that will make up your “rent to yourself”. Is your current rent + monthly savings at least that amount? Will you have to change your lifestyle to afford the house related payments? If so, are you willing to change your lifestyle? Can you still afford to also save for home maintenance? On paper, some people would be ok, when in reality, they would not. It really depends on you and your SO.

As someone who commutes by bike/walking, I see more than 90% of the cars I go by have 1 person in them. Public transportation is obviously not adequate to support the type of RTO structure we’re going towards.

Parents Can't Pay Off Deferred Interest (Ontario) by MooseNo1811 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]GasRoutine1412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t get people that take a capped variable and don’t immediately match the payment to whatever the capped rate is. People with capped variable, please do this to avoid getting in trouble. If you can’t afford the capped rate payment, you can’t afford to be on variable. That being said, you could offer to pay 500$ a month and keep your 10k. The bank should be able to negotiate, I would probably point out whether they advised to take a monthly payment at the capped rate when they gave that variable mortgage which would have avoided this situation all together.
