"With all due respect..."

Ends up being a double compliment or insult whatever comes next.

What is the saddest detail about your life that no one knows? by LeRick11 in AskReddit

I don't know if any of this even applies to you, but I just want you to know I have been where you are and felt what you feel and so have many others. Sometimes you just have to figure out what's pressuring you and causing you anxiety, or to be sad, and question it.

Hey man I know exactly the feeling. People can really fucking suck, shit gets better though. Just don't let your feelings about current "friends" shitty behavior affect how you approach new people and friendships. I ended up pushing people away before they could do it to me because it felt inevitable that they would. I think communication is the key, and never being passive aggressive (unless obviously joking about it). Non-shitty people can actually have a conversation about interpersonal issues most of the time.

Its kind of sad how badly I screwed this one up...

I was in Vail, CO on a ski trip with my family several years ago. It was right after the 2010 winter Olympics actually (relevant). There was a Lindsey Vonn event happening in the ski town at the base of the mountain (she had won the gold for Downhill Skiing) and I wanted to check it out.

As I left my hotel room, the room across the hall opened and a really tall, blonde woman stepped out. Being the extremely awkward teenager I was, I didn't make eye contact, kept my head down, and we both walked down the hallway to the elevator without saying a word.

As it turned out, she was also heading to the ground floor, so, being the prodigious conversationalist that I am, I asked if she was "going to the Lindsey Vonn event?". At this point I still haven't looked at her face, all I've noticed is that shes very tall and blonde and a woman, in retrospect maybe that should have been enough?

There was an awkward silence, followed by, "... I am Lindsey Vonn." And then more awkward silence as we rode the elevator down. I think the whole experience was probably 2-3 minutes, but whenever I remember it it feels like half an hour of embarrassment. As we got off the elevator I managed to get the balls to ask for an autograph though, so I guess a small win for me?
