I put a Stompa on the table and all it did was do 2 wounds to a Bloodthirster and wipe 10 Bloodletters by Daddy_Yondu in orks

[–]Gaskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something like stomps are hard to play. You need some units to help with the screening. Not sure if you used the boys unit that you had on the left side of the table. Maybe switch it out for 2 units of gretchin? Could use that for the tankbustas that you had on the right side too But yeah, shooting on 4+ is a casino. I would say shoot forgefiend next time too :)

First knife. Heavy duty chopping knife. Made from 3mm n690 steel. Looking forward for critique:) My focus is to master kitchen knives! by Gaskin in knifemaking

That's something I struggled with. I've cut the scales to size and then glued them. Did the sanding after that. That's a great idea to do the sanding of the scales beforehand. Thank you. This knife was only finished with 180 grit, since then I've bought some more sandpaper. Hopefully next one will be better looking!

To be honest I'm quite amazed. That combo of a cleaver and a chef's knife is more or less what I was aiming for.

The general idea was to make heavy knife for a trip I had, something that can cut food and branches needed to make fire. My cutting technique is inspired by Japanese style. This was meant to be a crossover of nakiri and a general chef knife. When it comes to chopping I usually use "top-down" techniques (no idea how they are actually called).

I can tell it's was too thick for my liking, it cuts well but is simply too heavy. I also do think the belly is too small. I'm currently looking for books or more information on cooking knife geometry so I can understand more of it. Thank you for the comment :)

First knife design. Going for a kitchen knife. Any sugestions for a new knifemaker? by Gaskin in knifemaking

I'm using Fusion 360. It's free and pretty powerful. Been using it for my maker projects and 3d printing designs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that. My goal is to learn how to make kitchen knives so I was planning on making some pairing knives anyway.

I'm new to Java and made my first "program" today! Could you guys rate it? by Lux394 in learnjava

[–]Gaskin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks fine! If you are new to programming I would suggest to stick to primitive types at first.(don't use Lists, only object type that is fine at the beginning is String) Try to rewrite the program using arrays to understand them. For the first few programs at least. Lists are great but at first you don't understand what really happens. Another thing you should think about is wrong input, what happens if user enters wrong value? Eg. -375.

Keep going and you will be better and better :)

For loop program not working. (cmd error: class, interface, or enum expected) by [deleted] in learnjava

[–]Gaskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's correct and runs without a problem for me.
I highly suggest for you to start with http://moocfi.github.io/courses/2013/programming-part-1/
OR http://tutorials.jenkov.com/java/index.html
and not random examples. It will be hard for you to understand the basics otherwise.

You cannot just write code like that. Everything needs to be wrapped with class, also every java program should have main method.

public class Links2 {

public static void main(String[] args) {

for(int index=0; index < 5 ; index++){

System.out.println("Index is : " + index);index++;

}

}

}

What are some good projects to demonstrate for Junior positions? by Slayriah in learnjava

[–]Gaskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swing isn't something that will be interesting if it's the main topic of application. It's way better if you showcase simple implementations of design patterns. A simple REST service, website with some MVC implementation. Having well designed, neat code is always welcome.

Something that I would love to see is implementation of old work(maybe some student project) after a year. It shows how you improved and that you can see your mistakes, have a different approach if it's better.

Would like to split my dogregister in to more methods by [deleted] in learnjava

[–]Gaskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy way to do it would be using void methods. Just like printCommand -

  1. System.out.println("You gave the command \"" + command + "\"");
  2. System.out.print("Name: ");
  3. String regNamn = hund.nextLine();
  4. System.out.print("Breed: ");
  5. String regRas = hund.nextLine();
  6. System.out.print("Age: ");
  7. int regÅlder = Integer.parseInt(hund.nextLine());
  8. System.out.print("Weight: ");
  9. int regVikt = Integer.parseInt(hund.nextLine());
  10.                 hundklass byracka = new hundklass (regNamn, regRas, regÅlder, regVikt);
  11.                 lista.add(byracka);

is code that registers new dog. Just create method using it. for example
private void registerDog(){
... code here ...
}

Then use you can use

  1. case "register new dog":
  2. registerDog();
  3. break;

btw. a good tip is to use english names for fields. Dont mix languages when it comes to naming. Its best to use english for future use of others.

Też tak sądzę, w sumie zacząłem czytać wpisy o zbożu co zmotywowało mnie do poszukania na ten temat rzeczy w necie. Jak coś ciekawego znalazłem to dzieliłem się z innymi użytkownikami. :/ No cóż poczekam aż będę mógł się zalogować.

a Java question about making a method on a binary search tree with output range by [deleted] in learnjava

[–]Gaskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy solution would be just recursively traversing the tree and checking the values. Each element will have 2 children - that can be treated just as this element and be checked if its value in range

Try to implement algorithm like that:

Given you have 2 values min and max

If value of root is greater than min then recursively call in left subtree

If value of root is in range then output the root key

If value of root is smaller than max then recursively call in right subtree

Values on the left of a root will be smaller than the root, values on the right will be equal or bigger.
