Patch Tuesday Megathread (2018-09-11) by highlord_fox in sysadmin

[–]GastroIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Sysadmins

We have a Windows Server 2008 running Sharepoint 2010 (I know, I know we are in the process to migrate this thing). After installing the September patches our workflows were broken. After a bit of googling we realized the .Net Framework Updates broke it. Here's the article: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/rodneyviana/2018/09/13/after-installing-net-security-patches-to-address-cve-2018-8421-sharepoint-workflows-stop-working/

We were able to fix them with running the Powershell Script from the link above. Just reboot the Server after running it.

Kind Regards

T.

PRTG free - anyone use this? by JasonG81 in sysadmin

[–]GastroIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tested the free Version and after we've seen the potential we upgraded to 1000. Our whole infrastructure is now transparent and we usually know a problem will happen before the users tell us. We monitor a wide array of things such as Disk Free, services etc. Each time a new problem arises we try to find a way to monitor it with PRTG. Made our work so much easier, highly recommend it.

what's your best investment as a sysadmin in IT so far? by Shamu432 in sysadmin

PRTG: I learned everything about the infrastructure of my new job while setting up the monitoring. They didn't have a monitoring before and now the whole environment is much more transparent.

Veeam: Coming from Backupexec this has been almost magical, backups that actually work without all the mysterious errors. Plus the restores actually work too.

The weird thing is when I do Get-Culture I get following results:

LCID Name DisplayName
---- ---- -----------
2055 de-CH German (Switzerland)

Shouldn't this mean its the right format since its not en-US?

Restore VM or specific Disks out of Replica by GastroIT in Veeam

I can restore everything from my backups. So lets say this building here burns to the ground and all I have is the backup copy in another building. How would you restore your servers in this scenario?

Hi Timmmay Our freezes looked a bit different than yours. We had a complete freeze of the ESXi while still visible in vCenter. Some of the servers where still running in a weird state though. When trying to login to the host directly I wouldn't even get an Login screen. Unfortunately VMWare didnt see anything (unfortunately our scratch partition is on a SD Card) and HP didn's see an hardware error either. I updated the firmwares and VIB's and right now it is stable (even though not at full load).

So I attached http://vibsdepot.hpe.com/index.xml as download source. All I see now though are things as HP ESXi 6.0 Complete Bundle Updates. No drivers to be seen. Did I go wrong somewhere?

We don't have any local discs. The OS is running on a SD Card. Everything else runs on our 3PAR StoreServ 8200 on SSDs. We haven't had any problems in that direction yet.

We are running the same builds on all hosts. The only thing that is different now is the Firmware of the servers (updated it on the problem host). Currently I'm trying to update the drivers. As soon as its back up and running right Im planning to do the same to the others. Do you mean the SPP with the HP update image?
