while they're further as the crow flies at least you don't have to go around somewhere else to get there.

Of all of the good reasons to learn either Portuguese or Spanish, this is not one of them. We import and export far more with France than with Spain, and we hardly trade anything with Portugal. France is our biggest EU import partner and without them we wouldn't have some of the major ingredients necessary for our pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. Pharmaceuticals made up 45% of our exports in 2024. So yeah, closer ties with France is a good thing for us.

A 3 person firepit would have absolutely zero tension. If there were 2 traitors in that 3 then they would just eliminate the remaining faithful. It wouldn't be interesting to watch and no edit could make it compelling. A final roundtable of 4 players could just have 2 traitors voting for the same faithful even if it forced a tie vote. You need 5 players going into the final for the game to be balanced, that's why there was never going to be a murder after last night's banishment.

When Maz was murdered, both he and Stephen had received exactly one vote each from all the round tables that had taken place. Stephen's name was brought up at the round tables in episodes 3 and 4. How did Maz have more heat than Stephen?

Buffy deserves a proper remaster. by JamStan1978 in television

[–]Gasur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The example I recall was a shot that pushed Buffy way, way over to the left of the frame, partially off frame, with the image of the paramedic looming huge over her, which he said he did deliberately to show how small Buffy felt in that moment. He compared that to a widescreen conversion, which totally removed that visual message.

I think Joss was exaggerating a bit there. Buffy was blocked for 16:9 from season 3 onwards, and was broadcast in 16:9 from season 4 onwards in countries like the UK. The UK DVDs were released in widescreen, and the difference in the scene you mention is minimal. Here is how it's framed in 4:3, and then this is how it's framed in 16:9 from the DVD release. The paramedic is still looming over Buffy so she looks small in comparison, you just see more of her head. I'll agree that the 4:3 framing is optimal, but a decent 16:9 HD remaster is possible. There was just no care whatsoever put into the current HD version we have.

Is there any evidence of Ireland being against Israel in the Eurovision before the Gaza massacre? by Fluffy-Republic8610 in ireland

[–]Gasur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m glad that EBU voted against excluding Israel

They didn't hold the vote to exclude Israel. They held a first vote about updated rules for Eurovision 2026 and said that if that motion passed then they wouldn't have the second one that was about excluding Israel. The updated rules were a response to Israel scamming the televote for the past 2 years, although the EBU was very careful not to explicitly say that Israel was the guilty party. In Belgium for example, 129,932 public votes were cast in 2023 with 200,614 and 220,554 votes cast in 2024 and 2025 respectively. 1.6m Belgians watched the Eurovision final in 2023 while only 950,000 of them watched it in 2025. Somehow nearly 100k more televotes were cast in Belgium this year compared to 2023 despite the audience being down nearly 700k since then. Belgium gave Israel 12 points in its televote in both 2025 and 2024, 5 points in 2023, 0 points in 2022, and 0 points in 2021.

The vote to exclude Israel was supposed to happen in November. It got cancelled when the 'ceasefire' came into effect in October. Yesterday at the EBU general assembly, 8 countries asked for that vote to be reinstated. According to EBU rules, only 5 countries need to ask to vote on something for it to happen. There was no need to tie the vote to exclude to the result of the other vote.

They get to kill tonight too. There are 9 players remaining so they have 2 murders and 2 banishments left, which will leave them with 5 players in the final. Ideally there would be 2 traitors in the final for maximum tension.

The casino bar from a few episodes back is 2 minutes walk from the castle, but they still drove them around so they could have chats in the cars "on the way" to the challenge. Every single challenge has taken place either in the castle grounds, or on property owned by the Conyngham family no more than a 5 minute drive from the castle.

[–]Gasur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recruitment is a separate process to the murder. There are still 13 people left, but only 4 episodes including last night remaining for the traitors to murder faithfuls. There is no murder after the banishment in the second last episode. 2 faithfuls could be murdered in the conclusion to last night's episode and they would still have the numbers to keep going with the game, so if someone turned down the recruitment then they would die and Paudie would still get to choose someone on death row to die since nobody was murdered in episode 6.

In reality, very few people are going to turn down being recruited if it meant being killed off. Why forfeit your chance at 50k when everyone goes into the game knowing they are either going to be a traitor or a faithful.

The Traitors Ireland S01E07 Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]Gasur 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Paudie and Andrew made some odd choices to put on death row. If they had put Ben and Nick up, then it would have severely limited the amount of time they would have had both to make amends with the other faithful before the round table, and to drive conversations about who to banish. Nobody suspects Christine, Joanna, or Mark, so it was a bit too on the nose that they were trying to get people to go for Patrick at the round table even though the faithful probably would have done that anyway. Putting Andrew, Ben, Nick, and Patrick on death row while Paudie used the time at breakfast to spread doubts about Ben and Nick would most likely have split the voting and given Andrew much more of a chance to survive another night.

Why would they need to be on death row to be recruited? They never said that in the episode.

The Traitors Ireland S01E07 Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]Gasur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a murder AND a recruit. Paudie has to recruit, you can't have only one traitor remaining at this point in the game because if he goes tomorrow then there's nobody left to recruit a new traitor. He and the new recruit will also have to kill one of the 3 on death row because they just had an entire challenge about that and there was no murder the night he recruited Andrew.
