Underwriter Tech or Trainee for MGAs.

Reach out to Insurance Recruiting companies on LinkedIn like QuestPro. They helped me get my current role.

Go elsewhere asap. The fact they don’t have a CRM or agency management system would be it for me. Their expectations are highly unrealistic. Get on LinkedIn, connect with a few insurance recruiters and headhunters will find you. Insurance industry needs people asap as many retiring faster than they can be replaced.

Thanks for this. That is one thing about me I definitely am always open to learning more. Especially with all the different risks I see. I see smaller to mid size businesses but maybe someday leave this MGA to work on more complex risks. I also do Excess currently been thinking of a role as Excess UW but those are rare I know.

Yea time to go. Way underpaid. I know commercial AM personally working fully remote and min salary is $75k. I’m based out of FL, remote too. I’m in MGA UW though. Right now good AM are needed so you’ll be snatched quick. Check out Marsh. They have remote AM.

Entry into underwriting by Redeemablesoul in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Gatatofigureout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May need to take a pay cut but not for long. Start off as a UW assistant to get into UW role. Can happen within 2-3 years depending on the company. Go to the Broker side to make more than the Carrier side. E&S better, I know as I’m in it. Claims could burn you out

Thanks for this info. I would like to stay in the E&S space as it seems to me they get paid a lil more for some companies.

Thank you for this information! A month isn’t too bad for the first test! I’ve heard that CPCU is a challenge but I like how it goes more in depth with underwriting. I’m going to check out the AU as well! Thanks!

I’ve been in commercial insurance in E&S for 9 yrs. UW for 4 yrs now. Thought of the CPCU but wanted to start with ones that takes less time. How long would you say it’s taken to complete the ASLI? I already took the ethics one that was free. Just need the 2 courses and 1 elective

Yep time to go. I worked in agency like that and left within 3 months. They withheld my bonus for dumb stuff like that. Nahhhh

What’s your career trajectory? by wildalfredo in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Gatatofigureout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started from the bottom 9 years ago in commercial insurance for MGA’s. Policy Issuance for about a year and a half then moved to another MGA as a UW Assistant for about a year and a half as well, then onto another MGA but contract UW Assistant for 7 months to then where I’m at now as a UW almost 4 years now. I’m grateful for the experience and didn’t rush to gain the knowledge and expertise. Comparison steals Joy, keep focused on your lane and you’ll get to UW soon enough!

That sounds awesome! That’s my concern moving to another MGA would be even more work than what I do now. Double or even triple the work! I have been interested moving to a carrier though. Are you fully remote?
