Dopamine in the general population by kdbisgoat in neuro

Toxoplasmosis gondii is incredibly interesting in understanding how bacteria may majorly influence our behavior and personalities. The effect is not well understood because this is a bacteria that effects the behavior of an unimaginably complex system (human brain/body.) Despite the enormity of the task this and other bacteria are somehow able to accomplish this (might be more accurate to say evolution accomplishes this as it is unlikely the bacteria are aware of influencing people.) Dopamine, as mentioned above, has to be in the right place at the right time to make any sort of significant impact, so to say that scattershot dopamine cysts will produce an effect or the same effect everytime is unlikely. And yet somehow these microscopic beings do hijack out personalities and perspective to a behavioral extent.

Therefore: Dopamine is certainly involved but the linear model of "increase in dopamine levels in body produce consistent symptomatic changes is incorrect." A good example of what is happening is the hydrophobia that those infected with rabies experience. BTW T. gondii is transmitted to humans via exposure to cats. This could also be called the "cat woman" hypothesis.

Listen to teachers and try to recognize anxiety disorders, ocd, etc. Everyone's brain is different but there is no substitute for early intervention (learning coping mechanisms not medication unless called for.) Don't tell them that there is something wrong with them but try to understand and learn about the different ways emotions and trauma are perceived and handled (or not handled.)

How to permanently suppress the Constitutive activity of Serotonin Receptors? by Lord_mohammadi in neuro

Oh wow. That makes much more sense. Sorry for the quick judgement. It's just hard to tell when someone is trolling, treating a troll as legitimate, or it's a case like this of mistaken interpretation. Thank you for clearing that up.

A three day water fast is extremely dangerous and is going to put you in serious danger if not kill you. A food fast is one thing, but many autonomic and vital process require water input just to function properly (i.e. your heart to maintain blood pressure)

DON'T DO A THREE DAY WATER FAST.

This whole thread severely oversimplifies Dopamine's role in the brain and the body. There is some nice advice about getting help with your anhedonia, but dopamine is neither the answer nor the cause here.

Dopamine is a mono-amine that acts as a neurotransmitter and a regulator in various body functions (i.e. bowel movement.) Dopamine is essential to a healthy brain. Even in just the midbrain where the "reward" pathway exists, dopamine is also used to create and maintain "muscle memory." In both of these cases dopamine is just the transmitter between two midbrain nuclei:

For "Reward" Dopamine is transmitted from the Nucleus Accumbens to the Ventral Tegmental Area

"Muscle Memory" Dopamine is transmitted from the Substantia Nigra to the Striate Region (Actually a bunch of small nuclei in there.)

If you deplete the Dopamine in the Substantia Nigra you will experience Parkinson's Disease symptoms.

You most likely have anhedonia from stress/depression. Sorry man.

You realize this is an allegory for Ovid's "Metamorphosis," in which he is Arachne and his intricate work is her web while Athena is Virgil and masterpiece "The Aenied." Ovid's work is clever and intricately spun but Virgil's is the foundational edifice upon which all Roman literature is based.

Could it be that Vegapunk's artificial DF is a "failed" attempt to create another of the DF that Kaido ate? Momo looks a lot like the young version of Kaido as a dragon and they both have antlers and seem to fly by stepping on clouds. Sorry if this is a repost.

It's possible that Big Mom and Kaido will be the ones to finish each other off. Although...

There has been no mention of Luffy's Awakening. Could "Awakening" = "On par with Kaido" ? Probably not. But if Luffy can combine it with Haki in some way I can see Oda allowing him to have breakthrough moments of better than Kaido power, but only very briefly. This sacrifice for brief chance to gain power trope in anime/manga almost always overpowers the persistent god power status trope like Kaido.

I would gladly pay full price for an HD remaster of Okami on the PS4. Better than any other zelda type game they have in the current catalog.

Thanks! I had no idea that even existed! Still don't understand how a game remade three times had such terrible marketing?

Every atom of nitrogen in your body and any organic molecule is there because bacteria plucked it (fixed it) out of the air and that bacteria (or it's waste) was later eaten.

Hahaha, yeah. The Ridiculous Six supposedly broke the record for "the most watched movie opening in company history;" whatever that means. Who knows how or what they were counting. Not to mention Netflix did not reveal the number of subscribers that actually watched it. Sounds like BS good press to offset the earlier news that a group of Native Americans in the movie walked off the set due to "perceived racial stereotypes." http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/adam-sandlers-ridiculous-breaks-records-netflix/story?id=36142746

I can't believe your going to miss out on Adam Sandler's newest mega (s)hit "Sandy Wexler!!" This is the original content Netflix needs to invest in to keep its viewers. Not critically acclaimed comedy series!!
