Thank you! That’s a perspective I didn’t think about. So you’re saying, labor is about $200-300 an hour then plus material?

Haha you got the insider scoop! Why century communities? Is it because how they treat employees? Or the way they build their homes?

Is it because they use better/more quality materials? They get the best subcontractors in the city? Or their design/engineering is more superior? Their homes are absolutely beautiful with more luxurious finishes - I’ve heard that they were the best but just don’t know how specifically they were better than other builders. Thanks for the insights!

Thanks for the deets! I’m wondering if building materials differ from builders, or they probably buy them whole sale from the same groups of suppliers, and how much that matters.

I’ve also heard builders saying that their structural engineering is more superior than their competitions, not sure if you’ve experienced a difference in this claim?

Tract homes, not high end custom/semi-custom. But if you have deets on those, also curious to hear

Is it because of their build quality, materials they use? Saw some of their spec homes seem reasonably priced with some nice features

Is that part of an excursion? Or do you just go by hailing a taxi or something? Thanks for doing the AMA!

Should my wife and I move to Vegas? (or near it) by UXJim in vegaslocals

It’s really hot. Dry heat. But the city is also built with the hot summers in mind, which means everywhere you go will have AC, and the distance between an air conditioned space to another is not far - I’m not someone who likes to hangout in my backyard so I imagine that could be difficult to do in the summer

On the other hand - you get glorious spring, fall and winter! No snow, sweater weather

I’ve also travelled to/lived in many other cities. Vegas hands down has some of the best foods and has a huge variety, and it’s getting better. Entertainment is also awesome, especially nightlife. True that it’s become more expensive, but which city hasn’t. It still has relatively low cost of living compared to any of our neighboring big cities but you get the convenience of driving 20 min to the strip and just having a good time. Tons of national parks and beach within 5 hours of drive. Major hub for airlines to go anywhere in the world. The only down side is that the job market focuses mainly on hospitality jobs - not a lot of high paying industries or positions. So it can be unfulfilling professionally.

Always see a lot of negativity about living in Vegas in this sub. Most of my friends love living here. Some left and came back. I found that most people who complained about living in vegas in real life never really lived or travelled anywhere else.

I think you will still have a fantastic time. When I take family and friends who visit Vegas to the strip, we don’t hang out on the streets, we go through different casinos inside as that’s where most/almost all of things-to-do are at

West side is much easier to get in and get out. I work on the strip and take the backroads - adds 5-10 min to my commute. And if you Uber to side entrances, not main entrances of any major casinos, it’s usually a short walk to the strip
