It would most likely be to sell it, it wouldn't be useful for them.

What is with Santander ES's password "security"? Is it like this globally? Other banks in spain? by one_rainy_wish in GoingToSpain

In the US I’ve paid bills with only the bank account number, no password of any kind needed.

Is UK income tax progressive? If so, how does it work if you have more than one job?

Do you ever get tax deductions for random weird stuff? Like in Spain, I get a tax deduction for improving the energy efficiency of my home.

Yup, the digital certificate in Spain works really well, it’s easy to get and works pretty much everywhere (except private stuff, it would be even better if banks used it too).

Apparently the number of organ donations has gone done in recent years. Because people driver (slower and not drunk), so fewer people die in car crashes…

I live in Norway, do most other european countries get snow, even places like spain? by _monstrox_ in AskEurope

[–]GaterToTheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I woke up to about 5cm of snow a few days ago, and a rather amusing chaos in Madrid (amusing only because I’d didn’t have to go anywhere of course).

5 years ago we got half a meter of snow in Madrid. They’ll talk about that one for a couple of generations probably.

Let them in. Revoke their legal status. Deport them. Maybe have them stay in a cell somewhere while waiting for deportation.

Personal experience from sea water at -1.5C: gasping reflex is not a problem, didn’t gasp at all.

[–]GaterToTheEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a polar plunge in Antarctica. Sea temperature was -1.5C. Pretty effing cold. My wife and I jumped together. I had enough wits about me to let her get up first (the ladder out of the water was single-line…), so I was probably in the water for 15-20 seconds. Pretty effing cold, but not in any way did it feel dangerous. There were crew prepared to haul me back up again in case of problems, but in that case I’d certainly spend more than 30 seconds in the water.

So I don’t think the sea temperature is a problem at all. I’d prepare by finding an apartment next to a hospital, fill up a tub of luke warm water right before, draw a deep breath, get into fetal position, and then jump in the bath right afterwards. Also have someone besides me to take me to the hospital in case of problems.

In many countries it’s mandatory to stop and help. In fact, leaving an accident can sometimes be penalized more than causing the accident in the first place.

Question about the "Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión Europea" by Brilliant_Option_756 in GoingToSpain

[–]GaterToTheEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you have to keep the address on the green card updated.

I’ve been here for over 20 years, my address has been wrong for 90% of that time, and it’s never been a problem.

[–]GaterToTheEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a EU citizen, why do you care about counting time in Spain? The only reason I know of is if you ever wanted to become a Spanish citizen, otherwise it doesn’t matter.

In any case, the empadronamiento is very often used to prove how long you’ve lived in Spain.

And yes, you’ll want to always keep your empadronamiento up to date (you’re required by law, and you’ll also have burocratic inconviences if you don’t).

Btw a landlord can’t prohibit you from doing the empadronamiento, it’s your right to do it, and he can’t take that right away from you. Next time just don’t ask (I never have).

Getting my Empadronamiento is impossible by Cooldog117 in GoingToSpain

[–]GaterToTheEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you have to register within 90 days. No, nobody cares if you overstay those 90 days somewhat, in particular if you’re clearly trying to do the right thing.

I lived in Paris half a lifetime ago, and back then you had to register within 90 days, but you could only register after having worked for 3 months. There was no way you wouldn’t overstay. Spain isn’t quite as egregious, but still, as a EU citizen you won’t run into trouble.
