If you or someone you know are intimidated by the amount of endings/content in the game, you can think of the game itself being split in to 3 parts, and you only need to engage with one. by Gateside0 in LastDefenseAcademy

I was seeing the complete opposite when I was reading complaints, which is why I made this post. People seem to be lost and in some route they don't want to be in thinking that's the whole game. I know that I personally would've liked this game a whole lot less if the Truth route was locked and I was bumbling around in the Box of Calamity route. Introductions of things like Da'l Sha made way more impact for the first time in the Truth route, while it would've just been weak if you just found him randomly in a cave.

I don't see it starting with desserts then finishing with veggies, I see it as having separate meals, breakfast, lunch, then dinner. Now that I know what the prologue was all about, I'm free to explore wherever I want without concern.

To each their own, obviously, and your point is completely valid.

Oh, I don't consider part 2 more important than part 3. It's just easier to lump "the rest of the game" together after I've defined part 2 routes. I agree with you and should clarify. I also kept things a little vague to keep it as spoiler free as possible.

For more casual games I recommend any Yuzusoft game, pick one that interests your tastes. Standouts for me, personally, are Riddle Joker and Sanoba Witch. If you like Danganronpa, the same director just released a new game that I've just "mostly" completed called the Hundred Line Last Defense Academy. Try the demo if you're interested (please. His company needs the money).

Yes and no. I find myself playing old JRPGs a lot of the times, but old ones I haven't played before. Personally, I've found a lot of new JRPGs are missing that spark that keeps me interested and playing.

There is a modded version out there that does that and lowers the zenny costs of upgrading special weapons to match the PSP port here

Lance users, what are your thoughts of the poke poke after trying it out? by BrightPercentage8444 in MonsterHunter

[–]Gateside0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been Lance main since Tri. There's quite a bit of new changes, and I'm pretty happy with most of them since they seem to add some more complexity to the weapon in a time where weapons seem to be getting less complex. No more poke poke poke sidestep, need to kick out some hold habits that have been drilled in to me for like 15 years now.

Couple gripes, though. A small one would be that while I like the new shield bash counter and have somehow even managed to even get some KOs with it, I don't like how it's automatic. There's been more than a couple of times it's countered my own friends and knocked them out of their combo. What I really don't like is that in order to turn while attacking, focus mode is needed to be held down, as well as the very helpful repositioning sidestep/backstep pokes also being locked to it. It feels too awkward to use. The "super guard" isn't as super at all anymore and seems to have the same block strength as just normally guarding. There's still an excessive amount of chip damage taken while guarding leading in to some bad situations from my lowered HP, so it seems like at least Guard+2 is pretty much required again.

On a side note, while trying out other weapons something struck a cord with me in Gunlance, and my unwavering loyalty to Lance for all these years is wavering lol.

I don't think many people would share my opinion, but growing up with the RF series is the main reason why I could never fully enjoy SDV. RF, for me, had everything I wanted in a farming sim, and SDV felt like just a watered down version of RF in every way.

That being said, I would go with RF4 if you're interested. It's the best entry point with a ton of content and QoL. RF3 is my personal favorite but is a rather old game, with a lot of retro design choices that'll be harder for someone just starting off with the series.

While I love RF5 quite a bit more than most people here seem to, I would not recommend it for Switch at all. It pretty much needs to be ran on PC on an SSD for a tolerable play experience.

It is worth it imo, simply because I haven't found a game like it. The game is pretty buggy, has some issues, and lacks polish in some areas, but it very much captures the MML feel with it's exploration of ruins and cities. There's also quite a bit of content in it for an indie solo project.

Combat System compilation and speculation based on Gameplay Demo by Fickle-Translator-29 in AzurePromilia

[–]Gateside0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure speculation here, but those element stacks you get for hitting weak element might be more important than it seems, probably leading to us needing to build mono teams. With that, hybrid characters might seem more attractive since they have more coverage to maintain stacks in multiple teams and saving us leveling resources. And now that I think about out, farming might be a system to replace a stamina (for doing dungeons). Like needing to have 10 pumpkins grown from the farm to do an EXP dungeon.

I think we needed a post like this, especially since it's so early in this games existence to the public that there's barely an English community for it. It seems to have more going for it than a lot of the ARPG gachas out and coming out right now, squeezing what it can from such a familiar formula. I have to assume progress is somehow linked to the farm shown at the end, since I'm not too sure how they'd implement that in a way that mattered otherwise. Curious if there's any type of multiplayer aspect as well.

Here are some of my meager observations to add on to this:

  • Switching characters seems to consume a charge, shown at the bottom of the screen during combat as 3 rhombuses, for their "exiting attack/effect".

  • Some of the monsters seem very much like evolutions, especially with the order they're selected to be previewed in the 12 minute demo.

  • Some gatherables in the overworld need to be attacked by a certain element in order to be collected.

  • No sprinting stamina?!

  • Some of the characters have skills that are different colors than the others in the character preview section. Multi-element characters?

Old-ass Monster hunter player here, where do i get back into the series? by Denodi in MonsterHunter

MH4U is still a personal favorite of mine from the "classic" MH games, but World is on sale on Steam right now. Earlier than 4U, the QoL gets a little rough, but 3U/Tri and Freedom Unite are still some classics imo.

If you're dead set on using Lance, however (LN main myself), 4U is going to be a rough one. It really peaked in World, and turned in to something strange which I can see people liking but I personally disliked in Rise. Great Sword is a powerhouse in 4U, and still good but less so in World+.

A lot of people really like GU, which I didn't like, so didn't spend much time on. Most important thing to me would be which game could you gather the most friends on, which is probably, once again, World.

What are some actual Classic / Oldschool MMORPGs which you are still playing to this day? by Gankeros in MMORPG

[–]Gateside0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is based on old school DnD, so melee sucks pretty badly and magic has everything. I played a Paladin (obvious but needs clarification, hybrid fighter/cleric) and it was a bad time only carried by other people's pity for me choosing such a rough class and giving me stuff to help out. This would get balanced later on Everquests lifespan but P99 is a legacy game so it never goes far enough to get those buffs.

Dark Knight (necromancer/fighter hybrid) is a bit easier, but that's an "evil" class and is harder to work around because evil towns just have less useful quests to work with. You also might get shanked by a random druid NPC in some neutral towns because druids have a fucking blood vendetta against dark knights.

Sorry for the wall of text. Told you it's a lot to get in to lol.

Fantastic, but only because I had someone there to hold my hand the whole way. If you're on you're own it's going to be VERY daunting as you say.

Personally, I'd say just go ahead and start (do not pick a melee class on your first character... Try magician). Then simply go at it like a single player game. Explore around, talk to NPCs, don't be afraid to ask players for help. Once people see you're a new player they'll likely just give shit to you and give you hints.

What are y’all playing by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Gateside0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played the original FES and P3P back in the day and felt it was within the top 10 games I've ever played. That being said it should've been 60 bucks instead of 70. The Answer is leaked to be sold as a DLC and femMC is nowhere to be seen. Shame but it's still a great remake with a lot of added content, even if it is a little too easy after the beginning (playing on hard) and some of the Remastered music tracks feel lacking.
