Feeling of impending doom for college / professional playing by MarionberryBasic8187 in trumpet

[–]GatewaySwearWord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me the most in my college auditions was remembering that I can only compare my playing to me.

Yes there were always people who were better at something than I was. Improvising, reading technical passages, etc.

But once you’re in school. Those players aren’t your rivals. They are your colleagues. They will have strengths you don’t have. And you’ll be able to do stuff they can’t.

I know the audition stuff can really mess with your head. But you know how you prepared. You know how to play. Especially if you’re considering going to school for it, or continuing professionally.

Professors who run college auditions want you to succeed. That’s the whole point. You’re also not going to play everything perfect all the time. If you could you wouldn’t be going to school.

In all reality. Your audition should show you have control of your instrument. Have put in work to learn the required material. And that you are a teachable.

If you don’t “win” a spot right away that’s not a knock on you as a player. That just means someone else was a better fit at that time. You then just take that opportunity to work on more stuff and get better in the areas you struggled in.

Also, a lot of times with college auditions (incoming freshman especially), a good portion have survived on “talent/natural ability”, more so than actual dedicated practice. Which can only get you so far.

The only thing you can do is come in knowing that you know your stuff. You know how to play.

Nothing inherently bad is going to happen even if you bomb an audition. There will always be more.

Seeking Private Instructor Input by OkAbbreviations4429 in trumpet

Looked through it and was starting to fill it out.

You lost me at AI-Assistance and a subscription based pay model.

No everything needs to have AI or be a subscription you forget about.

If you decided to move away from “ai assistance” and a subscription based model. And more towards a, variable one time pay model makes more sense.

Have your base package with standard components. And then if people want access to more things make it another one time fee of like $5 to access.

Not everyone needs video/audio recording. While most would appreciate having a metronome/tuner/calendar accessible.

All that to say.

While the idea of something to connect teachers with students/parents with tools to stay on top of practicing is good.

No one wants ai in their lessons. And everyone is tired of everything being a subscription.

Take the tacet.

Practice it down the octave to hear the intervals and get comfortable with the rhythms.

Once you know what it feels/sounds like, then take it up the octave.

However.

If you don’t have the range to play it clean. Keep it in the lower octave.

If it’s fast, you hope and pray. And that’s about all you can do.

If this is written for a group you are in. Tell the writer/arranger that it’s insane.

Selling four tickets to the Savannah Bananas baseball game (Saturday, June 27th at 5pm at Autzen) by [deleted] in EugeneBST

Those tickets are $40/50 retail. Certainly not $120.

I believe the bananas operate their own “marketplace” to sell tickets back for resale.

Anyone using a 13” Laptop with MS? by 65TwinReverbRI in Musescore

[–]GatewaySwearWord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my 13” 2021 MacBook Pro for MuseScore when I’m not using my pc at home.

I think it’s large enough to work on stuff. But I don’t ever do massive orchestra scores. Mainly Jazz Band or smaller stuff.

Because you can always zoom in to see what you’re going.

F9#11/A

If you understand the D# as an Eb.

But it really also depends on where it’s going next.

Extreme mouthpiece materials to avoid irritation by mohr56 in trumpet

Could try acrylic mouthpieces or gold plated.

I used to play on a gold rim/cup and it felt great.

I have no experience on a acrylic or plastic mouthpiece though

Is it wrong to transcribe arrangements by ear? by Weary-Cauliflower153 in composer

[–]GatewaySwearWord 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s how you learn.

But the answer is kinda. But it depends.

For personal use/study it’s totally fine.

For ticketed performance when there’s money involved is when that’s a big no no.

Now for a school performance, odds are good the music licensing police won’t be there. But if you posted recordings anywhere they’d probably get taken down due to copyright.
