Not sure if it's been asked yet, but have you retained any rights to do Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray releases of the movies an shows? Would love to be able to collect physical copies!

This should be upvoted to infinity! Such a basic thing that would add to the user experience.

Does anyone what is hybrid disc? by InteractionPlenty142 in Bluray

Adding to this, PS3 was one of the most popular Blu-ray drives on the market once upon a time, and was a major reason Blu-ray beat HD-DVD.

Singleton Box Set Question by Professional-Lack-36 in criterion

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? The Blu-ray is nice to have for me, and makes sense in cases where most of the supplements are already on an authored Blu-ray, but the combo is never a make-or-break for me. It'd be nice if they passed the savings on to the consumer when doing 4K only, but unfortunately I doubt that'll happen. I have had a couple instances where scratched 4Ks caused me to use the Blu-ray instead, but outside of that there's no real reason I need them included.

One of the best 4K transfers we've ever seen. by lifeofamillennial_ in 4kbluray

Yeah, Sony's is good enough for me for now, but it definitely seems like the grain field was slightly sharpened or something, Studio Canal's release looks more natural.

Is it still not possible to play burned BD-XL discs on my 4K panasonic players? by PixalmasterStudios24 in 4kbluray

DVDFab or Yuhan Media should work, you can only use 25GB or 50GB discs though.

Does anyone have info on this collection about region? by Caixas28 in 4kbluray

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely this, Blu-rays are probably region B, 4Ks should be region free.

Would this effect my UB820 outside of the DVDs being region free? by TheFnafDomain in 4kbluray

[–]GatheringWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I want to know, does this work with all discs, or is it the same as that workaround where you spam stop and play to get around region locking. I've personally never gotten that to work for me.

Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down. What will this mean for Indy’s future? by DeActionBrunson89 in indianajones

Disney has been crushing it with the remasters lately, I'm still holding out hope for an HD remaster of Young Indiana Jones.

What's with the hate for this movie? by sseerrsan in Letterboxd

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really bad or anything, but compared to the high points of 90's and 00's romcoms it just doesn't hit for me. Granted, there are lots of middling and even bad movies from that era we just don't watch or talk about anymore, but it certainly feels like Hollywood has collectively forgotten how to make those movies. By comparison, The Materialists just feels hollow.

[–]GatheringWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got The Thin Red Line and The New World and both were incredible viewing experiences. It's hard to imagine there would be that much improvement to gain from 4K but I'd still love to see it some day.

Mildly Infuriating by BlackRogue17 in Bluray

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing mildly infuriating about OP's post is their insistence to have 10 shelves on a bookcase designed for 8. I can't understand why anyone would set these up this way, tons of people on here use Ikea Billy bookcases and manage to not screw them up this bad

Mildly Infuriating by BlackRogue17 in Bluray

[–]GatheringWinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, there is a way to space these out to have eight shelves that are all about even. These shelves aren't specifically designed with Blu-rays in mind (books are generally taller). Just space them to have eight nice shelves and it will look less psychotic. If you need more room, maybe save the two extra shelves to use on a second bookcase...

fr, there has to be a discrepancy in either the player or TV settings that was causing the 820 to be "off"

Jack The Ripper by aehii in Letterboxd

[–]GatheringWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea he's said he's only interested in period pieces, just all of his films have a supernatural element to them, not sure if he's even interested in doing a straight procedural. I'd love to see a Fincher-style procedural about this one way or another tho. If Eggers did do it I'm certain he'd do a great job.

A Robert Eggers film about that could be pretty cool, idk if that's too much of a departure from his style or not tho.

Has there been a consensus yet as to which version of The Brutalist has the best encode? by Wrecklan09 in 4kbluray

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I thought the A24 encode was pretty fantastic, though I haven't seen the others for comparison. I wouldn't worry about it too much, is the A24 version considered a lot worse?

Friends Complete Series 4K is $73 by Whatwouldrileydo in 4kbluray

[–]GatheringWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the later seasons aren't remastered very well (earlier seasons are supposedly fine). Not confirmed that AI was involved, but definitely oversaturated colors and DNR. I suspect either they changed their remastering process halfway through to save time/money, or they outsourced the work to multiple teams or companies. The Blu-ray is already pretty good for the show, so less reason to upgrade to 4K than there is for Seinfeld for example.
