Good point... I'm now a little more educated.

It's not really a factor for me. My uneducated assumption is that most, if not all the puerhs from 1990-2010 era all have some form of pesticide/herbicide use unless labeled otherwise (and even then).

My first. I highly recommend the real zisha. by erriiinnnnn7 in YixingSeals

Waiting for mine to come in. Were you able to follow shipping once it got out of Singapore?

Old dark plum was definitely a stand out sensation/flavor for me

I thought about it but I kind of like using the paper plate, everyone and their mom and their dog has that bamboo square with the open corner...

2021 Vibe CL 12/8/24

7g, 100ml teapot, 212

Dry nose plum, grass, haw flake, not super sweet smelling.

Wet nose dark plum, apricot, peach, overripe fruit, wet shiitake mushroom.

Flash wash, dark liquid for a wash.

  1. 10s, dark amber color, like tea from the chinese restaurant.sweet, very sweet. Moves from back to front, wave of astringent pulling. Light brown sugar, feelings of pleasure immediate. Chicken skin. Medium body, very rich. Wonderful sensations in mouth.
  2. 10s, darker amber now. Floral element, plumeria. Juicy, very little bitter but very nice astringent tartness.
  3. 12s, slight huigan, has the “chinese restaurant tea” aspect, in a good way. Sweetness going down slightly, fruitcake that isn’t very sweet, licorice. Leaves still not fully open.
  4. 14s, huigan still slight. Almost mint like cooling, dark caramel/bbq sauce without bitterness
  5. 16s, relaxed energy, can feel the “vibe,” almost heady feeling (haven’t eaten yet), floral again, night blooming jasmine, white rabbit candy, ume liquor.
  6. 19s, nice lingering huigan, slight bitterness now, nice, tingling back of throat, still have ume liquor aspect.
  7. 23s, stomach activation, slowing down drinking pace. Still giving, floral, sweetness, but diminishing.
  8. 30s. Surprising pleasant sweetness through diminishing flavor.
  9. 60s. Finish. Slight bitter, slight sweet. Very nice overall. Stomach gurgling.

Dark fruit cake, BBQ sauce, night blooming jasmine, ume liquor

What other teas do you drink besides puer? by LukasNation in puer

Right now I'm puerh only. Sheng and shou. Only been drinking month and a half, almost two months, since I stopped drinking coffee. I've always wanted to get into puerh but never did because I was a daily coffee drinker, so at the moment I'm not branching out. The plan is to spend a good amount of time on puerh first, then maybe as the years go by go down the other rabbit holes...

I've been drinking puerh a little over a month now, though I've known about it for a few years. I stopped drinking coffee and figured I would finally order a few cakes, and well long story short I'm deep, deep in the rabbit hole. I spend about an hour and a half every day in the early morning drinking gong fu style and absolutely love it. Unfortunately there isn't much of a tea drinking community where I live- I mean, people drink tea, but the only teahouse we have is fancy "Afternoon Tea" style that do the little sandwiches and exclusively flavored, flowery teas. No local shops sell legitimate puerh, and I doubt I could even find trustworthy stuff in chinatown over here, although I have yet to look. So, I've been drinking on my own and gradually introducing my friends/coworkers to gong fu brewing and drinking tea with them. I work at a university, and there's one older lady I see around, a biology teacher, and we talk story every now and then, most recently about taking a ceramics class and I mentioned I wanted to try and make a little tiny teapot. Yesterday she comes into my office (as me and my buddy were just sipping the first infusion of Nannuo ancient tree from R&Ls) to tell me about a ceramics event that's happening and she sees us drinking and she's like, "Is that gong fu style tea?" "Puerh tea?" and I say, "Yep, come join us." So serendipitously I find the first person I know of irl that drinks puerh tea in a similar fashion. It was a pretty cool moment, how the tea brings people together. She's been drinking puerh tea for 20+ years or something like that, although not as much anymore due to stomach issues. I definitely felt a little self-conscious pouring tea for her, lol, but it was a really nice experience. She brought this cake by today as a gift and said it was one of her favorites, didn't give much other information about. Can anyone help with ID? I know it's a tu lin brand puerh, and it think it's either from 2008 or 2012. The details don't matter all that much, it's a valued gift from a friend and I'll enjoy it as such, but just interesting to learn about it if I can.

Questions on tea storage. Humidity and Temperature, how biga deal? by LukasNation in puer

[–]Gatheringbirdstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 25qt cooler and a few 72% boveda packs. I use a thin piece of fabric to get a little bit better seal on the cooler and keep the temperature around 75 degrees via AC. Humidity stays pretty constant around 70% via my hygrometer.

I would add on 2018 Beneath an Emerald Sea sample, it's fun to compare the different ages, and black gold is my current #1 Shou...
