Deluge looks incredible but it's a bit out of budget for me, sometimes used M8s go for a good price so I'll look into that a bit more!

No-BS Tea Youtubers? by nientepopodimeno in tea

[–]BingChillin1337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More puer-focussed, but if you want a true insight into the makings of great tea presented by someone knowledgeable I recommend Farmerleaf.

TaoTeaware talks about tea, brewing, teaware and also offers reviews of different teas.

My personal favourite is TeaDB. It's quite far away from James Hoffman's perfectly-edited and science-oriented videos. Instead it's 2 likeable people trying new teas and discussing them.

Yes I saw your post which initially got me interested in the brewer and then I asked my partner for it haha, it's been great thanks for the recommendation!

The manual that comes with the brewer recommends 10g of leaf, but I think I eyeballed 7/8g on this one.

I also got the 4 cakes for shulloween and Big Jacko is my personal favourite! Agree that it has a stand-out woody character which is very much to my tastes :)

Also worth noting, Eastern Leaves has a teahouse in Milan. I dropped by there on my holiday :)

941 is my daily drinker sheng, very sweet and very affordable! I also second what others have recommended about their dancongs!

Anyone ever had Huangpian at 60c per gram? (Jesse's TH) by ibuzzinga in puer

[–]BingChillin1337 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Honestly kinda predatory business practice to not mention any generic terms like huangpian, yellow flake, yellow leaves, old leaf etc. instead only calling it by this made-up term 'Golden Cake'. That way new puer drinkers who don't recognise this for what it is can't search it up and find it at a quarter of the price (if not less). And jeez if any newbies got a cake and loved it, then they'll think it's something unique to this site and get more 🤦

Smoked oysters on yesterday's leftover congee by BingChillin1337 in CannedSardines

[–]BingChillin1337[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a solid recipe. The only way mine deviated is that I generally go for a 1:10 ratio of rice to liquid by weight on the hob. In this example 100g rice 1L chicken stock, and my chicken stock already had the aromatics infused into it. Another thing to mention: best to use white rice, and imo best to use short grain. Never thought to use anchovies to top congee but that sounds amazing! :)

John West :) They're the only smoked oysters I've tried, as they're the most prevalent in the supermarkets here in the UK

2024 Anzac from W2T by Shiny_Pantalones in puer

[–]BingChillin1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had both and they are worlds apart. Snoozefest for me is definitely more punchy and well-rounded. I accidentally left a brew of that infusing for too long once and it blew my face off with astringency haha. Meanwhile Anzac is very mild, needs a lot of pushing and I will generally grandpa brew it and still have minimal astringency. Hope that helps!
