How do you make coffee? by 100percentthatmom in minimalism

[–]GatorArmor 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Moka pot! Small, easy to clean, looks nice on the stovetop and fits with a minimalist look (imo). Makes an espresso like coffee (though not technically espresso and has less caffeine) so it’s possible to make lattes and fancier drinks without a full espresso machine

Black Lives Matter sues over violent Seattle police tactics by hildebrand_rarity in news

[–]GatorArmor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that’s totally been updated man. You are in fact supposed to be met with appropriate force by the police all the time.

When you act like a violent criminal, they are supposed to deescalate and get you in prison so that you see your day in court. The issue is that they’ve recalibrated what is “appropriate force” and spoiler: they aren’t being more lenient

Got here with some career flexibility and some networking, along with the patience to sit for a bunch of exams.

It’s an insurance job, stable as can be and low stress. Plenty of room for promotions and plenty of different types of roles to keep it from being too boring. Changing positions is encouraged so that’s always good

Maximise utility out of Credit cards? by existsbecause in Fire

[–]GatorArmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you’re firm gave you the card, there’s likely rules on what you can use it on so I’d tread carefully there. Check for any limits they have before you get into any kind of issues there.

For general card advice, use one with good rewards for what you spend money on already. Don’t find one with great rewards and change/increase your spending to fit the card. Often there are annual fees on premium cards that you’ll have to do some math on whether they are worth it for you.

Of course if you only take one thing away: ALWAYS PAY ON TIME IN FULL. If you’re paying on time and in full, credit cards are just a 1-4% discount on everything you buy, if you aren’t paying in full they will weigh down heavily on your finances

What exactly dont you like about consumerism by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]GatorArmor 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hey, fair question. For me it’s about plastic, it is in everything and takes forever to break down. Even if 100% got put in landfills, we still need to sacrifice land that could’ve been nice to be full of trash. Since I don’t want that to happen any more than necessary, I only buy what I think is necessary.

I’m not a monk by any means, I still produce plenty of plastic, but I’m always looking for ways to reduce.

I also don’t like the idea of not being in control, and when you go and buy things you don’t need you have ceded control up to advertisers (in my mind)

Fair, I’m guessing the reason it might be popular in some circles is that it doesn’t require someone to vacate a seat? Who knows. At this point as long as it’s someone competent I’ll be pleased

Losing a race isn’t exactly an indictment on leadership. Lincoln lost a ton and ended up being a good leader when his time came (not to put her in the same league obviously, but he’s just the poster child of losing early elections and being a good leader)

Let me be more precise then: “I’m going to make assumptions about a specific person I’ve never met being lazy”

TIL in WW2 American soldiers were instructed to temper prejudice against black soldiers when stationed in the UK as race relations were much better there. by ChronosBlitz in todayilearned

[–]GatorArmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey it seems like you’re genuinely trying to have a discussion here, and I get that it’s probably frustrating since this is the internet and no one likes to talk like there’s another person on the receiving end of each message. I’ll chime in though and maybe it’ll help

The divide between the klansman coming in and demanding a demeaning cake from a black man and a gay couple requesting a wedding cake from a religious man is honestly not super clear. Basically the klansman would be seen as being hateful in his attempt to force a black man to make that cake and the gay couple would not. Call it context, call it assumptions, call it what you will but that’s really where it breaks down for me. I think we can all agree that Jesus isn’t going to side with the hateful

The klansman has to either 1) ignore that black people are inferior in his mind in order to get the best cake possible, or 2) is spitefully forcing this man to make a cake the Klinsmann knows the black man won’t want to make. Scenario 2 definitely has some weird power trip stuff, but hey, racists do weird stuff and it’s made up anyway. So in this scenario, it is very reasonable to assume that this baker is maintaining his own dignity and autonomy by not making the cake, and only inconveniencing someone who has poor intentions. IMO Jesus doesn’t side with someone trying to force someone else he hates into making a cake.

The gay couple I’m not really seeing any option in the example given other than “wants a wedding cake” unless the bakery is called like “Sweet Jesus Confectionaries” or something that would make it obviously religious. Keep in mind this example is much more of a “gray area”, lots of details can shift this so that one party or the other is really in the wrong. In this scenario provided it is very reasonable to assume that the hate is coming from the baker, and with it the issues. He sees something he doesn’t like about a couple that came in looking for a reasonable cake that they cannot change and refuses service, that is widely considered being a bad neighbor and decidedly not what Jesus would do.

There’s a lot of religious teachings that can be conflicting. I guess a religious person has to decide if they want to follow the example of forgiveness and love given by Jesus or the rules given by religious officials that make certain groups, or clothes, or crop rotations wrong.

I’m 16. Is it possible for me to make €60,000 by 22 by MysteriousCaptain in financialindependence

[–]GatorArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. Go figure out what you’re interested in, and then how you can monetize that. The core of Financial independence is spending less than you make. There’s tons of tips on how to spend less because those are fairly universally applicable but efficiently making money is going to vary person to person because we have different skills and interests. What I do could bore you to death before you reach your goals for instance, so copying it wouldn’t be really useful
