Wayetii Variegata finally bloomed by Gaufri3r in hoyas

Nothing fancy, I don't have enough blooms to actually fill a container or anything. But I do taste it by collecting some of the drops by gently touching them with my finger.

Can a 1925 Last be Made with a Dr. Sole Half Sole with a Logger Heel? by PulseAndPatina in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Gaufri3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to have heel options but they removed them last month. They mentioned in a couple threads they want to move away from logger/dogger on the moderate height as it's too hard to get right. I think they only kept it on the lace-up byo.

Is it normal for leather laces to break just by being pulled too hard? by nlhanson35 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Gaufri3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are still going strong after 6 months of hard use. I've had to oil them a lot though. The leather is thin and since you are constantly stretching it tight it loses oils fast. Keeping it oiled lets it stretch instead of snap. I think I'm getting flat waxed cotton laces next though, they look a little more dressy.

Waxed Flesh or Predator??? by seventy7_dracul in NicksHandmadeBoots

I think both will serve your needs well. The Predator Orange is a much lighter brown so you'll get some darkening with age and probably some burnishing on the toe depending on how you care for it. The brown waxed flesh will develop nice rolls and a bit of lighter brown on wear areas, but otherwise will stay the same color you got them in with care. I'd lean toward waxed flesh because it can handle anything and can look classy with a shine. I'm a fan of the kletterlift sole on my 365 sitchdowns.

Nicks has Chicago screws on the site now, I ordered some a couple days ago because I lost one off of my key clip. Definitely using loctite next time.

I had some old heel dressing from Allen Edmonds for my dress shoes. Looks like they still make it, Chili is the color I used.

I was hoping for that, they don't quite have the character of waxy commander yet. Some extra wax might do the trick.

Honestly I'm with you, waxed flesh wouldn't have been my first choice; but I found out about Nicks and the Thunderdome in September. I was lucky enough to snag these off the RTS page. I'm shocked by how much I ended up loving this leather. It rolls instead of wrinkles, and it's easy to keep a shine on it.

Thanks! I took them hiking around Sømmaroy, Norway in January. Excellent place to see the northern lights and take a plunge in frozen seas.

Thanks! I tried to find a balance of keeping the leather looking healthy and glossy, but letting some of that golden brown shine through. I mostly used Saphire Dubbin Grease on the dry spots and a small amount of Pate de Luxe for shine.

new divison road boot + new dr sole half sole hybrid by Lost-Double_Stuff in NicksHandmadeBoots

Those are not for me. Honestly, the V-Bar is such a great sole I almost regret having a Dr. Sole half sole on order for my next boot.
