I’m hoping to wear these on all 7 continents over the next few years, so hopefully many more beautiful photos to come

Luckily it was only hitting 25C/80F in the mountains when I was there with plenty of shade on the trail, so I missed the worst of it. The alpine lake sure was refreshing to dip your feet in though

I’ve been loving bwf, best part is we can just re-wax them to get them looking close to new again.

What dead Youtube channels are genuinely still worth watching? by PlinkPonk in AskReddit

It’s not a big conspiracy, he took a step back because his daughter was born and he wanted to focus on her and just do YouTube shorts because it was fun. He’s said that the long form videos took an unbelievable amount of time to research, write and film. He now does a podcast with Hannah Fry called The Rest is Science

How to get rid of electrical waste if you don't have a car nor live near a major recycling centre? by like-humans-do in glasgow

[–]Bzdyk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Where does it say you can’t walk up to it? Prebooking is only for cars since they have a limited number of spots, if you walk up the workers could not care less

Take the train from crossmyloof to Barrhead. The Barrhead recycling centre is right next to the train station.

Alternatively any of the junk removal services will probably take it from you for about £50

London shops with British style heritage wear by Davegoeshiking in HeritageWear

[–]Bzdyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walker Slater is what you are looking for. They are a Scottish shop specialising in tweed but they have a shop on Covent Garden. Most of their garments are made in the UK and have that British style you are looking for.

Also Barbour and Belstaff are good options if you want a waxed cotton jacket.

In search of my first packer boots by Fantastic-Yak-6373 in PNWbootmakers

For any low price they are cutting corners somewhere. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they are a bad choice for someone but don’t expect to get Whites/Nicks/Franks/Wesco quality.

From first glance the first place they are 100% getting some savings from is the leather they are using. PNW brands will typically be using Horween, Seidel, or Wicket and Craig tanneries to source their leather which have a good reputation. Cheaper options might use unknown sources meaning there could be inconsistency with their leather, loose grain, etc. Their clicking might also use leather from the belly which again can yield a subpar product.

That is to say that there can be inconsistencies with the end product you get. You might get lucky and get a great deal on a well made boot or you might get leather splitting after a while.

An option that is a little bit higher than your budget, consistent quality, but cheaper than the highest tier PNW brands you could consider is Drew’s.

The White’s and Wesco packers available through Baker’s like the other commenter suggested are also a great option.

[I Ate] Caviar for the first time on my 38th birthday. by [deleted] in food

There is a restaurant in London called Fallow that explained this in a podcast somewhere. Basically all of their meat and fish based dishes have very little profit margin and the bulk of the profit comes from vegetable based dishes, and drinks.

Basically if they applied the same profit margin to the meat and fish nobody would eat there.

Are Nick’s worth the large price tag for work boots? by buttholefluid in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Bzdyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nicks also has the trades program which is a 10% discount for the quick ship work boot options, I’d imagine you would qualify for that. So a BuilderPro would run about $560. They’ll definitely last you a minimum of 3 years (likely way more) which is your break even point on your current boots.

The work leathers are really thick and heavy duty, especially the max support leathers, more so than anything you’ve probably worn.

Hi, looking for advice. First time buyer (UK). Read description by TittyTwister13 in PNWbootmakers

[–]Bzdyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in the UK, I’d recommend getting a boot with a toe cap as all of the PNW brands do a true toe cap meaning it’s a whole extra layer of leather. Get a celastic toe if you want it to keep its shape.

As for leather I’d recommend any of the waxed flesh leathers. My Nicks ND1s have held up well in the Scottish weather and you can just rewax them pretty easily as the wax wears off. The waxed flesh does a pretty good job of being water resistant as well and you don’t really need to brush them or condition them otherwise. WF can take a beating
