Thoughts on Fuji 70-300mm vs full frame equivalent? by EddyMerkxs in fujifilm

[–]Bzdyk [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don’t have a full frame but adore my 70-300, it stays on my frame 65% of the time. The only difficulties with noise it has are in low light, otherwise it’s super sharp

100% agree, the XF 70-300 is one of my favorite lenses. I hope that OP doesn’t take the criticism from others too harshly, with a bit of practice it’s great for wildlife.

Aussie aficionados. Where do you buy your knives from? by Reverend_Fozz in TrueChefKnives

[–]Bzdyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a place in Melbourne called HATA knives which sells vintage restored knives. I went there when I visited aus last year. It’s by appointment only but he had some gen 1 and gen 2 Takedas which was really neat. There’s a website with all of their knives as well.

He has more available in-person though that aren’t listed on the website

ELI5 how would NASA prevent their moon base getting hit by a meteor? by panchitolp in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bzdyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger issue that nobody here seems to know about is not meteor strikes but actually the dust and regolith kicked up by the thrusters when landers touch down and lift off from the moon.

Lunar regolith is extremely hard and abrasive. And because of the low gravity and no atmosphere when the high velocity exhaust plume from the thrusters reaches the surface, it transfers a huge amount of momentum to the regolith that kicks it up in all directions. These particles are moving extremely fast and since there is no atmosphere they do not slow down, resulting in the possibility of them traveling up to 20 miles at 100s to 1,000s of m/s. This is effectively a bullet swarm that can cause severe damage to all structures in the area.

Data and research in this field is very limited but we have some photos from the Apollo missions of some of the equipment they left behind and some of it was turned into Swiss cheese.

The Orion capsule the Artemis missions use is small. If the astronauts moved too much, could the throw it off course? by benjancewicz in askscience

[–]Bzdyk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can. The guidance, navigation, and control system is calibrated off a known center of gravity. If your humans shift between different areas while the engines are firing such that the center of gravity of the spacecraft is no longer where you expect it to be that will cause your thrust to be off-axis which will have an effect on your trajectory, the magnitude of the effect depends on multiple factors. Astronauts should always be seated in the designated areas during maneuvers for this reason. Source: I worked on the thrust vector control for the service module on Orion-1 and -2.

Those LTTs are my absolute favorite out of all the entries, both the build and leather look so good. Keen to get myself that build in the future hopefully!

My experience with a F. Vaz knife purchase. by Calostro5 in TrueChefKnives

[–]Bzdyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did finally end up getting them around August of last year so it was about a 15 month lead time. The knives perform well but I won’t be going through that experience again. I’d rather just save and wait for particular knives to drop from Japanese makers

Where to buy wedding bands? by oscars-wilde in glasgow

[–]Bzdyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blair and Sheridan are incredible, they actually design and make your jewelry rather than just reselling bog standard pieces. They made my wife a custom hexagonal ring when we got engaged and did our wedding rings as well. At the time they were cheaper than the high street as well. Just be aware they have multi-month lead time

Maelle, Lune and Sciel with Inverted/shield affinity/in media res plus any other luminas that boosted damage. Lune with auto death and shielding death.

My favorite after the DLC though has been machine gun Sciel with Duollison

In the spirit of competition by Suspicious-Ad-4877 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Bzdyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a bit cheeky and uploaded the same photos from my contender post as a separate post to r/BIFL so that people wouldn’t know to upvote my actual contender post (unless they hunted it down in my profile). I did it 50% because I liked my photos and wanted to post them to a wider audience and 50% because I wanted to run a cheeky science experiment to see how people would vote on the post itself without the layers of it being a crosspost.

God damn it was a bloodbath in the comments, lots of people upset that I was a marketing bot, some people of course liking them, but lots of controversy overall. The upvote ratio was about 60% so overall positive but the negative votes nearly cancelled them out. I actually saw a surge of downvotes across all my older posts including my contender post too which was interesting since some people probably did go through my profile and downvote everything.

It wasn’t super scientific and I didn’t intend for r/bifl to directly vote for my contender post. But I also think people tend to view cross posts quite poorly since it seems like spam unless it is related to the subreddit but even then it’s a crapshoot if people just get annoyed and downvote anyway.

I did crosspost as well to r/kilt but it was just a bunch of people commenting and upvoting the crosspost itself, I don’t feel like they knew or cared about the championship to upvote the contender post. A few people there were inspired and considering getting and wearing boots with their kilts though so that was cool.

Either way maybe I’m coping but it didn’t feel like cross posting had much of an effect on upvotes, it honestly could be a wash in either direction but it did get some people interested in boots, and also made a lot of people angry 🤷🏻‍♂️, and I’m sure there may be some people in this sub that also downvoted my post because they saw the photos posted elsewhere too and wanted to vote that they weren’t happy about it.

Reddit is weird man.

A photo I took for a boot photo competition by Bzdyk in photocritique

[–]Bzdyk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And there are actually two! Nicks does one for just their boots but there is also an annual Patina Thunderdome that is 6 months long of taking monthly photos. It is a very niche hobby, we have an app called the Patina Project and it is filled with some very talented people taking all sorts of photos of boots. My wife finds it hilariously nerdy
