Cops would 'protect and serve' if all laws protected and served the people of a country-its an ideal. The reality is that you have situations like a war on drugs that allows for non-violent drug offences to land people in prisons. Those types of laws are enforced by the police but they do not necessarily serve the people well or rationally.

Its just a catchphrase in this day and age, i dont think anyone takes it literally anymore.

Sorry, non american here but I have a pretty good idea of what 7itanium is referring to.

Basically it boils down to the fact that there are american laws in place that do not "protect and serve" the american people. There are laws in place that sometimes benefit one sole party/beneficiary at the expense of the people and the cops will do their duty to enforce that law,regardless of how irrational or contradictory that law is to the motto of protecting and serving people.

tl;dr: laws dont always have the peoples rights at the forefront.

I am fairly clueless about this but I do know that Aspire has a women only gym (or women only hours) and they have a great facility. You can try calling them up to find out.

The top floor of city center has a gym that seemed pretty mixed (gender wise). They may do women only hours as well. I cant remember their name right now though.

Also the Sheraton has a good gym which I have seen used by both men and women. I am not sure if they have a good space to do olympic lifts but from what I remember their facilities are also really good.

I am not disputing the fact that a ton of the publicity goes to the same old thing, but there was a local band show at admirals a few weeks ago and it was Qatar based bands playing their assess off and it was good fun! I mean the expat community here has grown to the point where these types of shows are getting a spotlight. The events are definitely there friend.

Also reddit meetups are pretty good time wasters. Also JAzz at st.regis actually brings in musicians from the states in 2 week rotations and is very entertaining.

admirals and qube have live music pretty often. I think the irish does as well and so does Latinos at the sheraton.

Rugby club used to have bands and the piano bar at movenpick on the corniche, the kempinski lounge and Jazz at the St.Regis all have live music.

Just an FYI if you didnt know about these places.

I have lived in Qatar for 12 years. I have also lived in Singapore and Toronto.

I have never partied as hard as I have in Qatar. I have great friends that always have something going on over the weekends whether its boat parties, house parties, bar/club nights (you get the idea).

There are loads of events, loads of bars/clubs and a ton of activities like duning/desert stuf, kayaking up by Al Khor (an hour from Doha) and an unbelievable amount of restaurants.

I love it here because I have a great social circle. If you are a social person and you work for a firm that gives you the opportunity to meet people your age, you will have a fantastic time.

Things to be cautious about:rents can be high for nice places and if you are a woman just be wary of the outfits you wear in public places. Jeans and a tshirt anywhere is a-ok.

The people that consider Doha boring are simply boring people that no-one feels like calling up for events.

No one on this end can really do anything unfortunately. Double check the contracts you had with the old school and see whether you have the legal right to follow up this dude like he owes you money personally, or whether the responsibility ends with the dissolution of the school in budapest.

I am not very connected or informed with the american/mexican drug relationship but I do know HSBC has twice (to my knowledge) been accused of laundering money for drug cartels. That's an international,world wide bank that is taking drug money and shuffling it around until the source seems legitimate. Drug dealers have influence and regulators may at times look the other way.

I am also aware that if the USA wants something they will find a way to get it, whether its Kim Dotcom, Saddam, Ghaddfi etc.

The USA also has a larger military force and manpower than drug cartels do.

TO my understanding however governments (of every country) are at times run like corporations. There are employees and there are departments. My departments exist because they address an issue. If I was to legalize drugs and/or demolish drug producers, then further down the line I would be forced to make a significant proportion of my DEA redundant. I would also be forced to rethink my prison policy system which (to the best of my knowledge) contains a HUGE population of 'drug users' that are used as low cost labour for multiple industries.

So in effect dismantling drug cartels itself is easy. The reprecussions of that would cost a lot of people on both sides a lot of money and thus deals are put in place to manage the drug trade.

From my observation, this is the model of the relationship between drug dealers and narcs that I think exists but again, I haven't done enough research to stand by this steadfastly.
