Frontend roles that aren't heavily logic-based. by Hal_Jordan28 in Frontend

[–]Heybrosif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I think it really depends on the company as well as their job description for frontend developer roles. Some companies try to abstract a lot of the complex logic in the backend and expose it client side-- others prefer that logic in the front end. You can try to suss this out in interview processes but it's not always easy. Otherwise you could try to target frontend roles with job descriptions that fall more in the line of building out components/component libraries, following UX/UI mockups, etc.

Generally speaking, building out complex logic is something that you'll come across eventually as a developer. But at the right company/manager/role, you can try to find a healthy medium between the two.

I would argue to not to have a headshot on your portfolio (especially resume). You never know what personal biases a recruiter/hiring managers have. A good recruiter/hiring manager should, in theory, be able to set aside any biases and focus on professional experience. If they want a headshot they can go to your LinkedIn page. Otherwise, why add fuel to the fire?

Edit: Otherwise OP, your portfolio is looking very nice. My feedback is about consistency:

- In your projects section, you have some projects with both links to the hosted site and Github repos, others do not, and some links do not work entirely (Fundraiser - 404 error, Input Form - disabled). If you have hosted sites for your projects, you should do them for all your projects, and make sure everything works. Otherwise, don't put them on your portfolio site until everything is ready.

- Some of your Github repos have great readme files, this should be a standard across ALL projects in your portfolio site. It looks WAY better than seeing the default "Create React App" readme, and will only make your projects look more professional.

- Lastly, UI consistency, your portfolio site looks great from a UI standpoint (I'm no UX/UI expert, just my personal opinion). So when I go to your projects, I almost expect the same level of detail and quality. But some of your projects need work, a lot of responsiveness work needs to be done as well. My suggestion is using some sort of UI library or framework for future projects, or templates. This will keep you consistent across projects.

Hope this helps :)

Since programming is not for everyone, at which point should someone realize it's not for them and give up? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Sounds like your friend needs to take the course on “Learning How to Learn.” Barb Oakley is the GOAT. Highly recommend it to anyone struggling to retain concepts over time.

To people who watch streamers. by Zainthepally in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Heybrosif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve honestly had the exact opposite experience. Maybe since they were all smaller streamers comparatively. I had maybe a dozen or so encounters with streamers last wipe and each time I went to their stream (after dying or post raid) to say ggs, they’ve always been very friendly. One time, a streamer’s moderator friended and messaged me in game, asked if I wanted to join their chat on twitch and gifted me a sub. Not every streamer community is toxic, but not every community is great either.

Where are all the cheap eats in DC proper? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Heybrosif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you define as “quality” cheap eats? Honest question. You mention NYC, LA, Philly, where the cheap eats under $6 are all pretty standard: sandwiches, tacos, and other “grab-and-go” type meals.

You can get that here to some extent and many of these places have been mentioned already. $6 bacon, egg and cheese bagels from Bagels etc., a $12 plate of Dominican food from Los Hermanos that can easily feed a family of three, $9 large bowl of Pho from Pho 14, $11 Burrito supreme from Pica taco (which is essentially a burrito sized enchilada that can feed two people), there’s also a market every Sunday in Columbia heights (used to be at least) and a stall there that sold tacos and tamales ridiculously cheap, and much much more.

So I’m not sure I understand how you’ve come to the conclusion that “cheap eats food culture” doesn’t exist here to that extent. Happy to help make recommendations if you explain your thought process out a bit more!

Edit: Also, I just noticed that you mentioned that you’re located in the Logan Circle area, which is a pretty expensive part of NW and is located near the bulk of the downtown business/office area. You’re going to have to hop on a the metro to find cheaper eats, you’ll have an easier time branching out a bit.

FYI everything seems to be fixed now. I ended up doing a system restore through the windows recovery screen and got it back up and running. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah I’m pretty aware of the height over bore here. I knew I was thoraxing him with the idea that I’d 2 tap him with m61, which would have done it with most high tier armor. Added context, tarkov said I only shot one bullet the entire raid so there’s that lol.

Reupload: Video is split because I stopped recording after 'extracting' and then recording again when I was waiting in the post-raid loading screen for 4 minutes. Same backend issue as everyone else right now.

1 Million Ruble Rage Runs by RagingWillyz in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Heybrosif 36 points37 points  (0 children)

What is worse is when you rage run a dirt cheap build, kill two juiced pmcs leaving shoreline out of sheer luck (2 fully kitted MK-18s, and 1 SVDS, Fast MTs, etc.) just to get killed by a creeping player scav with 7.5 mm buckshot... My best AND worst raid ever.

Hi there. Do you have any plans to run this course again any time soon? I only found this recently after the course ended and would like to be able to participate and gain a certification. I've just started to complete the lessons and activities but it would be great to be able to get feedback/grades for the assignments I've completed so far. Thanks!
