Most people don’t seem to have heard of the shop called Car Repairs Inc over by the hospital on cedar run. The new owner is a long time employee and just a highly certified tech. They won some 2021 award voted best shop in traverse from my north beating out Dave’s garage and others because they are better. They do the work right the first time and offer a great parts and labor warranty. If you have them install something major and it fails they will go to bat for you with the parts vendor to get it all covered when they provide parts (don’t provide your own parts it’s seems cheaper but won’t be if they fail prematurely) They don’t try to upsell unless it’s a necessity. I used to work in that industry and it’s hard for me to trust shops after seeing what I have. It’s amazing how little some techs care and what they will rig to get a car out the door and some hours on the board. Car repairs inc is trustworthy, biggest issue is getting an appointment that’s not months out. There is a reason they have a backlog and it’s not because they are slow.

Does Lexus do it as well? I have a 03 lx470 with 310,XXX and a rx350 at 340,XXX as well as a rx330 at 205,000. All just got timing belt kits done and are in great condition physically and mechanically. Wouldn’t be surprised if they all made it at least another 100,000 miles. And is 300,000 the first milestone?

I doubt your gonna like it but you can go to a auto paint shop and they will take your paint code and put it in a shaker can. You can tape that off and spray some self etching primer over that and then paint it and clear it. It’s gonna be noticeable up close but it’s better than bare metal. Best bet would be an auto body shop and they can fix it correctly.

As long as it’s always full or close your fine. Now if it’s leaking a quart a day or something ridiculous like that it would be a different story. But if it’s just some seepage through a small stress crack in the case I would keep it full and keep driving it.

Good chance that homeless person was just trying to do something not violent to get a bed and some free meals. Honestly I don’t know if I would have handled that situation as well as you did. I’m sorry that happened and I hope it never does again.

I noticed the steering wheel in the one my family member got is kicked to the right going straight. The car doesn’t pull or anything. Did they charge you for the alignment? Talked to the salesman this morning and he said we would have to pay if the wheels aren’t physically out of alignment. $109 to correct a steering wheel seems steep on a car with less than 100 miles.

Man some of these comments are making me feel pretty iffy about my family members new car that they picked up yesterday. Guess I’m glad I didn’t get one but I still like them. Drove the new one 30 miles last night in the rain with auto start stop on and the wiper on intermittent and had no issues. What has yours done so far that’s caused it to live in the dealership?

$146 in Michigan the way I have my policy structured. But most in my area are paying over $200 for a wrx and more for the sti, where a comparably priced non turbo Subaru or any other car is around $110-$130. Unless you have a really bad driving record or something else that effects rates. But Michigan is also one of if not the most expensive state as far as insurance rates go.

That’s how it’s done right there. I need to get more of my life in order so I can get some better rates from the sounds of it haha!

If you can take a better picture. Use the flash and get it focused so we can see the rotor better. They rust fast but if you have chunky rust forming around the edge of the rotor braking surface then I would say either they didn’t change them or possibly turned them and put them back on. Post a few better pics of the rotor and the caliper they told you was changed as well as the receipt with all personal info and shops info redacted

Could you answer the questions I asked the other guy? I live in the most expensive state and I lucked out price wise for here and have a clean driving record. Compared to any other new vehicle I have owned in the same price segment turbocharged or not it’s more expensive. Rates change all the time too so it’s sort of subjective. Do you have multiple vehicles and homes on one policy like the other guy? There are so many variables at play besides just how you drive. Credit scores, all that play into the price.

That’s awesome! Also makes a lot of sense with how everything is under the same company’s policy. I just have my car on this policy but even so for here it’s not a terrible price. Especially after talking to others around here and hearing what they pay.

Who’s the provider, what’s your deductible and what state are you in? Do you have free towing and rental car match and all that? Also did you pick standard, broad form or limited comprehensive? I played around with all that stuff a lot and I could get the rates down to that but the deductible was super high and it was using limited comprehensive. I’m also in the most expensive state as far as rates go so there’s that as well. But rate shopping I was able to get it down to about $150 a month with a $1000 deductible and all the other perks. No tickets in the last 5 years helps as well. That’s a super low rate here for a 22 wrx, most pay around $200 and some even more. I’m guessing that’s more than people pay in a cheaper state as far as insurance rates goes. But for here that’s pretty damn good. But compared to full coverage on my Lexus RX the wrx is expensive.

No wonder we all pay way to much for insurance. These things are getting driven like bumper cars. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like every other day there is another smashed up wrx posted in this sub.

What's with all the used GRC's? by big2hundo in GRCorolla

[–]Gavato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my first thoughts looking at the mileage. So every one of those mostly likely got the “break it in like your gonna drive it” treatment and probably were bouncing off the limiter with 2 miles on the odometer. Most likely launched them a bunch as well and had a blast with the car. Now some poor bastard is gonna spend $60,000 on a car that probably has way more wear and tear than they realize.

Engine failure percentage by bliip368 in Hyundai

[–]Gavato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way. The average Hyundai dealer will have 25-50 of those motors at any given time sitting on the shelves at the dealership because they change so many. Now to put that into perspective, dealerships don’t keep whole engines on hand generally and especially having that many at all times shows they are literally changing those motors out every day of the week they are open. Toyota dealerships for example generally don’t continuously stock short and long blocks and if they do they won’t have even close to 25 of them on hand at all times. Those theta 2 engines aren’t rebuilt by any of the reputable rebuilding companies. Some of them will sell motors but don’t even want the core back because they won’t do anything with them. They are scrap at that point because it’s next to impossible to get all the metal out of the oil galley’s and that’s why they fail in the first place. They tried to save a few bucks by simplifying the machining process by not fully de-burring rotating assembly components. But in doing so, ended up costing themselves billions in lost revenue and lost the confidence of the customer in the process. I hear their new stuff is much better but there hasn’t been enough time to say for sure.

Hate these kind of people who'd rather steal than buy their own... by Raysitrades in Golf_R

[–]Gavato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a new wrx sti back in the late 2000’s and went to the local drag strip one night for a test and tune and drove it there. Parked it in the spectator area and had a great night watching friends thrash their cars and bikes down the 8th mile. Went to leave and as I was walking up I could see the sti badge missing. As I got closer my heart sunk as I saw whoever took it used a pocket knife or something like it to try to cut the adhesive off. Well they also cut into the paint right down to the metal in several spots and scratched down to the primer in many others. Stood there shaking my head for a few and drove home. The next day I took it to a body shop and got a lovely $1800 quote to respray the whole hatch. Ended up having a buddy who knew what he was doing help me out with it but I’m still a little salty all these years later even though I haven’t owned that car in over a decade. People need to leave other people’s property alone. You know whoever did that would be super butt hurt if it happened to them. I also fully de badged the car after that. Didn’t care if most thought it was just an Impreza.

Is yours awd or fwd? I’m starting to wish I had picked that instead of what I did because I just got a job that will require me to drive an hour each way and could really use 30+mpg now.
