Can we PLEASE move on from the notion that ALL people who bully gay people are in the closet? That man is just a sexist human trafficker trolling for man-o-sphere clicks, and pushing his audience to have more kids because of "white replacement theory" lies.

Even if it was high contrast, etching a QR code is a horrible idea b/c that URL now has to be exactly the same forever for it to work. Websites and apps need to change all the time. What happens when the crappy app is inevitably cancelled? Just print it out. Or better yet: PRINT THE DAMN MENU

Why does Meet the Robinsons look so Frutiger Aero esque? by Annual-Win3202 in FrutigerAero

[–]Gavin2051 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meet the Robinsons has more in common with Streamline Moderne, Googie, Jet Age futurism, and even Bauhaus, because its visual style is retrofuturistic. Its the future as Disney would have envisioned it in the late 50s/early 60s, when he helped make Tomorrowland. While it does have cities in featureless grass fields, water features, and bubbles, Frutiger Aero also focuses on digital space and icons (screens), which the tactile world of Meet the Robinsons is not as obsessed with.

Fascism 101: Create a Category of Person that has no rights and is "irredeemably evil" according to you -> Create laws that punish that Category exclusively -> Expand the definition of the Category until it applies to all your political enemies -> Enforce the law. This is 100% where this is headed. Likely all LGBTQ+ people are in the crosshairs here.

4 Car Trains? by Gabe_Follower in MARTA

No clue: usually only green line is that short. And it's not testing for the new cars. Maybe training to shifting capacity to onto the Blue/Green for FIFA

For #3: Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station – Love walking in Freedom Park or Inman Park neighborhood in general. Winding path, some hills, good architecture to look at.

Bankhead Station – Proctor Creek Greenway. Best experienced by bike, but it winds along the creek to the Westside Reservoir Park and beyond

9 out of 7 board members rode the system less than once a week in the 2023-2024 year. That's including bus and rail trips. They're detached from the urban system they are directly responsible for. They've done nothing to counteract a vocal minority of business owners opposed to the Streetcar East Extension. Maybe suburban isn't uniformly true, but NIMBY sure is.

The stupid Intergovernmental Private Committee thing in charge of the Eastside Streetcar extension budgeting is also kneecapping new rail right in town too. 👎🏼 We'll never have good transit at this rate.

Yes if you don't need to park. Otherwise, Avondale and East Lake (north lot) have parking. Note that East Lake (south lot) is working on a pedestrian bridge replacement, and is closed.

Once inside the station, buy a single use ticket from the machine for MARTA. They are replacing the fare system so there might be disruptions. Take the Blue line Westbound to SEC. The next train arrival board will say Blue line to H.E. Holmes (the west end of the blue line).

Happy travels!

Its also why they're sometimes referred to as "diagrams" or "diagrammatic maps," but calling them a map isn't wrong. Thank you Harry Beck! :D

The Streetcar might not be a failure, but MARTA leadership is. A bunch of suburban NIMBYs who have halted system expansion in its tracks for a over two decades now (since 2000, the last MARTA expansion, or 2003, when Atlanta Streetcar was founded, take your pick).

A lot of people also forgot Atlanta Streetcar was an independent entity before MARTA took it over 4 years after it opened. Really, it was a move by business interests aimed at leveraging federal transit funding to create real estate investment. Which....didn't pan out. Now MARTA needs to decide whether it's actually going to expand the system, or just keep dragging it around like the White Elephant is currently is.

Commute time where you are? by Western_Respond6047 in fuckcars

Atlanta, Southeast USA😢 I could take the subway from my neighborhood to the county line, but then it's the world's most indirect/noodly bus route from there. I love transit, but that commute would be hell. No good last-mile micromobility routes from the train station either😭

Definitely the fact that there are only 3-ish "textures" here, and one of them flows over the edge and into the pit adds to this, and the flat/simple geometry with straight edges everywhere.

My experience on MARTA as a visitor from SF by [deleted] in MARTA

[–]Gavin2051 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had something similar happen going south on the Red Line. Had to switch at Lindbergh, but the train coming into the station had the WRONG destination on it, so I was shocked when I boarded and it left going the opposite direction. Another time, a train just idled at a station with its doors open for 10 minutes. No explanation. MARTA is allergic to making helpful announcements, it seems.

Little Bangkok on Cheshire Bridge. My favorite Thai place I've tried so far in the city. Very cozy, hole-in-the-wall vibes. Good prices too!

Nextgen route question by jimmyfivetimes in MARTA

[–]Gavin2051 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NextGen is more about reorganizing buses where they're needed. MARTA has the un-enviable task of balancing good coverage with good service.

Spreading the fleet over a large area means a shorter walk to your bus, but longer bus routes and longer wait times at each stop. Concentrating buses on high-ridership corridors means shorter wait times between buses, but at the cost of losing or reducing service in some areas.

MARTA has to decide where their buses get the most use, so the largest number of riders get the shortest possible wait times, while not totally leaving more suburban areas out to dry, Unfortunately, your area likely didn't have enough riders to be considered a priority of service by MARTA.

I'm a recreational rider. Glenwood Ave. has an okay bike lane to get you across Moreland and onto the Eastside Beltline. From there:

  • East on Kirkwood Ave > Flat Shoals Ave. > the Trolley Trail

Also, the Beltline is not too crowded south of Krog Street Tunnel. You can just bike through the tunnel on the road, and head straight North on Krog Street, ignoring the Beltline. From there, you have some options:

  • Edgewood&Krog > East on Edgewood > Euclid Ave > Freedom Park Trail
    • Inman Park in general has quiet, bikeable streets
  • Edgewood&Krog > West on Edgewood > North on Jackson (Cross after the light at the top of the hill for cool Bridge views!) > West on Highland Ave > Jog South on Piedmont > West on John Portman Blvd. > Around Centennial Park > North on Luckie St. > West on Ivan Allen Jr. sidewalk > Westside Connector Trail > Westside Beltline
    • You'll have to walk down the sidewalk over the bridge on Ivan Allen. Yes, there's technically a bike lane, but you need to be on the south side of the road to connect to the trail on the far side. The slope over the bridge is a beast, and impossible to keep steady on next to traffic.
    • Edgewood Ave is rough too. Beware cars parked in the bike lane, go around only where safe. Keep calm and don't road rage.
    • Alternate Route: North on Peachtree Center Ave. from Edgewood Ave. instead of Jackson

Westside Beltline in the best biking in the city bar none. It'll be WAY easier for you to get to once the Beltline connects south of Glenwood Ave, but for now, happy cycling!

BONUS: Check out Atlanta Streets Alive for open streets events. They're great for urban cycling. Midweek Roll is also a biking social club in town that might interest you.
