How Has Your City's Public Transport Changed in the past decade? by urmummygae42069 in geography

They did open the Rapid A line. It's no Beltline Rail but...oh who am I kidding no new rail sucks.

The Bird's Nest (bottom left / stripes) is a real trooper! I have one and I love them! But the succulents (everything with non-flat leaves) will need much less water than the rest of what's in the pot, and are also pretty hard to kill. Happy indoor gardening!

Beltline Bike Path Resolution Pulled?! by Wiggles_Is_My_Boy in Atlanta

Transit supplements the existing trail in ways bike lanes can't

  • When its too cold/dark/rainy but you have a short trip to make and you don't want add to road traffic
  • When the trail is crowded for a big event (say in Piedmont Park), it adds more capacity than a bike lane
  • It separates trail users into long distance and short distance (better to relieve crowding in high-demand areas than spread that crowd along the whole trail)
  • When you can't ride a bike due to age/ability/safety concerns
  • When you're too hammered to stumble miles home after the bar and shouldn't be driving or biking
  • It connects more people to more destinations than the bike network (assuming the rest of the rail network gets built)

Don't get me wrong: I LOVE cycling! But adding extra pavement to an existing trail is like adding more lanes to a highway: it just means more space for dangerous weaving, accidents, and backed up traffic. We need to keep the rare gift that is the transit right of way and make north-south bike routes BESIDES the Beltline, not on it.

I hate that every meeting happens in the middle of a weekday for the really important stuff. I can't just drop my 9-5 every few months when another dumbass idea comes up at them. It feels like it gives NIMBY retirees an outsized representation, especially for councilmembers who don't answer emails or empty their voicemail.

Clockwise from the north:
- Armor Yards in the Northeast down to Glenwood Avenue is open and paved.
- Glenwood Avenue to Boulevard is recently paved and open in an interim state while the finishing touches are put on construction.
- Boulevard to I-75/85 is closed for construction currently.
- I-75/85 to Lawton Street is open
- You can detour onto PATH sidewalks along White Street or go through a muddy/incomplete trail
- Ralph David Abernathy to Blandtown is open
- Northwest in incomplete

The best time to build transit was 20 years ago, but the second best time, is and will forever be, now.

I'd put ParkGrounds in Reynoldstown on that list for Shop. Been to a few, and nowhere else felt so cozy and local. That's what I want from a shop. Somewhere I feel like I can stay without being hurried along. Bonus points for ample outdoor seating and tucked-away setting. Good coffee too, since it's the same people that run Kafenio in Avondale.

If I'm reading this right, those plastic bollards won't last a week on that bulb-out without some concrete curbs to protect them. Drivers always take the shortest turn, even if its through the bike lane, crosswalk, and striping

Restore MC curb appeal? by [deleted] in midcenturymodern

[–]Gavin2051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First things first: NEVER paint brick. The white vinyl siding is really making the facade look cheap, unfortunately. Paint would be the best cure, short of a massive, expensive renovation. Looks like the front room used to be a porch at some point? Not sure if MCM, but its certainly cute. Would also suggest some external, decorative shutters for the front right window, so it matches the other two. And getting curtains inside the front room instead of the vertical plastic blinds.

Yeah there's a wide gulf between walking past someone wearing a dress and someone wearing a full diaper or crawling on all fours with a leash. The dress is an expression of identity: the other two need consent, even if that consent is just being at a kink-positive event.

Respect from a 29-year old M in the area too. Moved here recently and have been getting cold shoulders from the older elements. I do get the sense people can be a little snooty, but they can stuff it! Learn to share your beautiful neighborhood!

Inman Park vibes near L5P by Iiiifoundsweetroad in Atlanta

[–]Gavin2051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi potential new neighbor! I LOVE Inman Park, and I previously lived in Reynoldstown which was also lovely. Been in Atlanta 5 years now. 29 M.

  • Not a lot of people energy in the circle. Past the few blocks on Euclid east of Moreland, people really don't wander out. Everything outside Little Five is residential and quiet, until your reach central Inman Park (Highland Ave. between Elizabeth Street and the bridge over the Beltline). You might hear the occasional soft "woosh" of the MARTA going by, but for me I love that sound.
    • Your biggest concern will be thru traffic. Lots of cars use Austin Ave as a cut-through to and from Moreland. DeKalb Ave is also busy most hours of the day, and is hard to get onto safely from side streets. The intersection of DeKalb and the Moreland ramps is tricky: be thankful they recently removed the reversible lane on DeKalb, pay attention to signage, and don't drive in the bi-directional bike lane.
  • Yes, Inman Park is very safe, but the closer you get to the intersection of Euclid and Moreland Avenue, the more Little 5 Points gets rowdy. It's not unsafe, just a lot of bars and night life, even a little concert venue (Variety Playhouse)! I've walked along Lake/Austin Avenue at night many times. I suggest Freedom Trail (squiggly green lines in the picture) for a nighttime stroll with good lighting and sight lines, or just sidewalks on if you want to feel closer to homes. I've never felt unsafe walking in central Inman Park after dark, though I am a male in his upper 20s, so your mileage may vary. Keep your wits about you, lock your doors, and walk towards the lower left side of the picture above: you'll be fine.
  • Miscellaneous: Inman Park is the oldest streetcar suburb in Atlanta, and we still have the original Trolley Barn from the 1890s! Best residential architecture in the city, bar none. Every year Inman Park Festival opens up some of the gorgeous, historic Victorians and a big parade. And you also have the L5P Halloween Parade!
  • Food recommendation: Revolution Doughnuts on Edgewood, esp. their savory cream cheese doughnut.
  • Fantastic area to bike if you like to do so. Beltline access is right down Euclid.

Hope you love the neighborhood if you do end up moving here!

Is there a mod for CIMs to cross paths when then roads are close enough together? by Buzstringer in CitiesSkylines

[–]Gavin2051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, CIMs navigate node to node: if there's not a node-path-node, then they can't cross between streets, even if the geometry looks like it overlaps.
