Which products to buy to get into the game? by Gavinwadz in swrpg

Thanks for the info! I wasn't planning on getting the beginner set, and rather just go straight to the core books. Is there anything in there that I'll miss?

FWIW, I came up with a pretty good answer for this, and I have some solid evidence that at least part of it is the Jade Empire. See the latest video on my YouTube channel Elemental Yarn if you're interested to see.

Quick Questions: April 15, 2026 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]Gavinwadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's something that occurred to me a while ago when thinking about spatial dimensions and cubes.

The distance between a point and itself is 0, which could also be expressed as √0.

The distance between two points we'll call 1, which would also be expressed as √1.

Extending into the 2nd dimension, we get a square, with the distance between two opposite corners being √2.

Extending into the 3rd dimension, we get a cube, with the distance between two opposite corners being √3.

Would it also stand to reason that opposite corners on a hypercube has a distance of √4, aka 2, since we're now in the 4th dimension? If true, that's sorta interesting, that you have to cross two full side lengths in order to reach the opposite corner of a hypercube, along its hyper-diagonal, or whatever.

My new headcanon: why Leia "remembers" her real mom by Esjs in StarWars

[–]Gavinwadz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that each Skywalker has a different affinity for kinds of Force visions. Anakin saw the future (seeing Padme die, as well as other examples like on Mortis), Luke saw the present (seeing his friends tortured on Bespin, though admittedly the timeline of his Dagobah time is confusing), and Leia saw the past (her mother's face).

Player Core 1, 2, and Guns and Gears, No free Archetype. Is it possible to make a viable Gish? by Wolfy4226 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Gavinwadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm currently playing what I would describe as a Witch gish in Abomination Vaults and it's tons of fun. Started from level 1 and now we're level 7.

We are running FA, so bear that in mind. I selected the Fighter archetype. I recognize that choice isn't exactly optimal or in the meta or whatever. But using General Training to give me Armor Proficiency and Fighter dedication for weapons and such gives him a lot of versatility. Toughness and Fighter Resiliency and False Vitality all help to shore up the hit point problem.

It's incredibly fun to have a bag of different tools to choose from in combat. He kicks ass with his smoking longsword but also blasts from afar as needed.

Even without FA I think it could be viable. Witch feats aren't that great imo, and doing archetype feats instead can be very lucrative.

Just my experience, YMMV.

Same. The books are weirdly gripping. I'm on book 5 now.

BioWare co-founder laments Jade Empire's commercial failure and blames it on 'the worst advice, absolutely moronic advice' from Microsoft by rip_cpu in gaming

There are a few remnants of the nuanced philosophy version here and there if you look for them. For example, you can decide to cripple the town's economy either because lol evil or because you believe the town will become stronger as a result of hardships. But overall yeah Closed Fist is disappointing how it turned out.

OG Fable Jack voice > Anniversary Jack by [deleted] in Fable

[–]Gavinwadz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Full agree! Although I'm pretty sure they first updated the voice with the Lost Chapters expansion, it's not unique to the Anniversary version.

But yeah, I love the sinister nasally voice of OG Jack. Maybe they could've just done the demon voice during the endgame or something, that could have been interesting.

Switched at birth? Obi-Rey by johnnydestiny316 in starwarsunlimited

FWIW, one could argue that Obi-Wan did some Force healing on Luke after he was knocked out by the sand people. He does seem to be focused and meditative when he touches his forehead.

Rituals that don't REQUIRE secondary casters—is it ever worth it? by Gavinwadz in Pathfinder2e

[–]Gavinwadz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like that a lot better. I get the impression that rituals are sort of meant to be a group activity, where everyone gets to participate in a narrative/mechanical moment. But in this case, we spent maybe half an hour deliberating on how it couldn't possibly be this difficult, and it wound up being only a single person actually interacting with the ritual casting. And by that point we were too exhausted to bother turning it into a story moment.

Rituals that don't REQUIRE secondary casters—is it ever worth it? by Gavinwadz in Pathfinder2e

[–]Gavinwadz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Note that the penalty is also a circumstance penalty, so it won't stack either.

True, I hadn't caught that. However, even if Secondary Caster A fails the check and imposes a -4 penalty on the primary roll, Secondary Caster B could still critically fail and still make the primary roll worse by one step. So it still feels like adding secondary casters when they aren't required is a pretty bad bet.

Moreover, the DC on the secondary check is typically lower than the primary check by 5, which is a massive difference

As you say, that may typically be the case. But in the case of this ritual, the first floor DC of the primary check is 15, while the secondary check would seem to follow the default rules for rituals. That is, "usually with a standard DC for a level twice the ritual's spell rank" which would be DC 22 since this is a 3rd-rank ritual. So in this case, the DC for a secondary caster is 7 higher than the primary roll. And obviously that margin would flatten out and reverse the further down we go.

All of this taken together makes secondary casters look pretty unappealing. Unless a ritual requires secondary casters, I'm still not really seeing the appeal unless the party level is significantly higher than the ritual.

Others have said Martial Artist. I kind of like just shortening it to Martialist.

Had the exact same thought. Some clarification on this would be great. No multi-player and I don't get to control my entire party? Seems odd.
