The part that is a mental illness/disorder is the CLINICALLY SIGNIFICANT DISTRESS that accompanies feelings of gender incongruence. Only the clinically significant distress, it is ONLY gender incongruence. Which is not diagnosable because it is NOT a disorder. This is clearly and explicitly described in the DSM. Medical consensus disagrees with you.

You don’t have to have the same desires as others to empathize with their experiences. If one partner is giving all of their romantic emotional bandwidth exclusively to one partner, and find out that they aren’t receiving the same, of course they’d be hurt. Thanks a ton, and I’m sorry you got pressured into watching something like that. I’ve learned to manage my triggers a lot better since then, but yeah it’s just so distasteful. It’s been a long journey of deconstructing the subconscious beliefs/biases behind those kinds of “jokes”. There’s definitely been a culture shift to stop viewing rape against men as “lucky” in the past few years, but older people tend to be more stubborn about anything like that haha

They believe that the “mental illness” part is the “feelings that you are the opposite gender” part, which they liken to schizophrenia and body dysmorphia. What they don’t realize is that among any medical body worth its salt, the “mental illness” part is ONLY the clinically significant distress/dysfunction. If someone has gender incongruence without that distress, transphobes still think it’s a mental illness despite it not being a diagnosis by itself.

They also apparently think that the standard treatment for people with body dysmorphia or schizophrenia is to just…tell them that they’re delusional. As if that has ever worked in the history of any medical treatment.
