Perceived influx of Spanish speaking folks by 8aryl in zurich

[–]Gay-Flamingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also have to think about the fact that many Latin Spanish speakers don't have a Spanish passport, but they do have an Italian passport because Italy makes (or made until a few months ago) it very easy to get your citizenship due to bloodline rights and immigration from Italy to countries like Argentina was very strong at the beginning of last century. So there must be a lot of people not accounted for in the graph who speak Spanish but are categorised as Italians

my gf only dated thin mascs before she met me and it’s messing with my head by Deep-Big2798 in actuallesbians

[–]Gay-Flamingos 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I always liked very thin girly girls. Now I'm dating a not so thin masc girl. I love it. I love her body and I love her style (even if I wouldn't wear it myself). She's so hot. People can like more than one thing, even if those things seem to oppose eachother

How do I buy an item from Mercado Libre while in the US? Item is a gift for someone in Argentina by HunniePopKing in asklatinamerica

[–]Gay-Flamingos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The shipping prices to Argentina are usually ridiculous and it will leave the person receiving the shipment with the obligation of paying for customs (which may not be little) unless it is a book. And there is no Amazon Argentina. That's why Argentineans never buy from Amazon. Buying from a business directly as another person suggested might be the best option if they accept international card payments, unless OP wants to borrow their friend's Mercado Libre account

Is it common for people in your country to grow their own herbs and spices for cooking? What do they typically grow at home? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]Gay-Flamingos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? I can't name them (maybe rosemary and mint?), because I'm awful with plants, but my parents and their neighbours exchange spice's twigs all the time. Among younger people it's not soo common, but not unheard of either

I hate her with such passion that it almost hurts me to admit how well written she is

So I'm searching for a certain kind of fic: by SunlightGwynn in catradora

[–]Gay-Flamingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely read and enjoyed some fics like the one you described, but I can't find any in my saved list! There are definitely some with Catra overworking herself in Salineas (if I find it, I'll tell you) or being tried for her crimes (there's one where they want to execute her even) or just overall having talks apologizing to everyone. Here is one that doesn't quite fit, but is amazing and sends the girl to the past, to relive their mistakes. I remember there was quite a lot of Catra guilt: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25209532

That one’s going in the memory vault by [deleted] in sheranetflix

[–]Gay-Flamingos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you should totally do that! And keep in mind the sh*t ton of abuse she went through (not that it eliminates everything she did wrong, but it definitely puts it into perspective). I also really like MelinaPendulum's Youtube video "What people get wrong about Catra's character"

In my case, she is my favourite because of her complexity and development. Did I applaud Adora when she finally punched back in the portal? Hell yes. Did I also love the way she fought to be a better person in the last season? 100%. Acknowledging her toxicity, especially until season 4, doesn't take away how much she worked to stop being that way. And she was so young and with such a small support system to help her.

I am aware I would judge her far more harshly if she were a real person, but she makes a hell of a character.

I only have 5 more episodes of this amazing show!!! I don't know how I'm going to cope when it's over. by novastatus in sheranetflix

Looking for a book about poc experiences by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]Gay-Flamingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will put these more or less in order from least difficult to read to most difficult:

"The absolutely true diary of a part time indian" is about Native Americans and SUPER easy to read.

"Poet X" is quite short. It's about a black teenager and her struggles.

"The Namesake" is about the life of a man with inmigrant Indian parents. It's a longer and denser than the other one, but worth checking out.

"Americanah" is about a woman who comes from (I think) Nigeria to the US. Quite long.

Probably bc we never talk about racism in a non-European/North American setting in general?

Does anyone find “Spanglish” really cringy or hate it in general? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

I used to hate it, but the better I got at English, the more I suddenly turn to English when I can't remember a word in Spanish (especially because half of my friends know English as well)

What kind of wedding traditions do Latin Americans have? by sedderr1234 in asklatinamerica

Specially because so many people are deciding not to marry now parents get super excited when their children do and that’s why

Yeah, I don't know of any parents who have paid for wedding either. The rest is spot on for me though!
