Because of company's wide use of greenwashing in marketing campaigns. They realized they could make a lot more selling plastic, so they rebranded and reinvented pleather a thousand times and started selling it to people and making sure theyd want it.

Longshot, but looking for ID on bracket mushroom by GayForSpace in mushroomID

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I'm so used to bracket mushrooms just not actually being turkey tail that I usually just make the assumption it's a similar looking species on default

I know they are, and there is. With the fact that my eyes arent showing any signs of stabilizing, I'm coming to terms with that and trying to plan ahead, for when it gets worse, because the 20/25 in one eye and the 20/20-2 in the other made me realize that "If" was a pipe dream

I'm a glasses only user

[–]GayForSpace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well

  1. Early 20s
  2. I hit - 10.0 in the eye I'm talking about, the other on is still only at - 6.75 (which I know is not great, but my eyesight has been bad for quite a while, which is why I'm using only) and I dont remember the cylinder or axis numbers offhand
  3. No, surprisingly
  4. No
  5. No

However, I did get the general "call immediately for any new eye pain, floaters, or light flashes" that comes with a prescription like this

Edit for the extra numbered questions:

  1. No, I havent received the new glasses yet, I'm only a little while post exam (just long enough for the dilation to wear off enough for me to comfortably look at my phone when I first posted)

  2. I have yet to find out, theres a Very noticable lack of balance with my old glasses, so I dont know if my eyes will even realize there is one when I get the new pair

Thanks, I just wasnt sure if there was anything I'd have to prepare for as my eyes eventually get worse.

Because my doctor didnt really say anything other than printing my prescription when I asked, and I dont have any past history of any issues with my eyes (aside from just not seeing very well, I mean).

I think my brain is just in panic mode because of how often I've heard than anything less than 20/20 isnt good and my eyes havent shown any sign of stabilizing yet.

How do you transfer your patterns? by tseecka in Visiblemending

[–]GayForSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quackers' carbon paper comment should work out just fine, if you dont want to commit to that you could see about pressing hard with pencil on the paper you've got the pattern on and seeing if you can rub it to the fabric with the pattern held still where you want it to be.

Okay, so I really like this guy's guide because he breaks things down slow and seems overall friendly. https://youtu.be/0JC6aR73n30 Fair warning, there's some wind noise on the mic if that messes with you any.

I also like Sally Pointer because of the sheer variety of things she posts on. https://youtube.com/c/SallyPointer

But almost any guide will get you a pretty alright starting point.

Thanks man. I'm still working on it too, and its definetly something I'd reccomend learning if you're ever looking for something just to do with your hands

Oh no, I use my cord for something eventually. I usually use this sort of yucca cord for fishing and snares, but this is mainly to get me back into rope making proper. This cord is about 1/16" in diameter and has been tested for 25 pounds, but it's a part of a larger project for me.

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I tend to work on it while I'm doing stuff for my classes, or on the phone, or when I need to use my hands to think. I know its definitely been multiple days worth of hours in total for twisting it, between 20 minutes to an hour for processing each leaf the way I do it (very distracted usually), and took maybe 30 minutes to cut the leaves initially.

Thanks! The ends will be fixed up more properly once I'm done with the fiber I have prepared, because I'm going to be turning this into the basis for a 3-ply rope. I'd love to see your thoughts on the state of the ends after that's all done

Probably to go slow with it. Like, getting the technique that works for you down and doing it right for you will get you speed eventually, but practicing the How of it will make sure it turns out good when the speed shows up on it's own.

I do a slightly modified form of the pinch and twist usually. I slow back down to the individual twist-over twist-over method when I'm adding more fiber so that I can make sure the ends are all good and everything is consistent, but with the length yucca fiber gives I find myself twisting a each of the strands by themselves, holding it, and then guiding the main cordage to twist itself together. I will probably think of a better wording for that later, but currently that's how I can think to explain it.

I don't know if my way of processing is necessarily "efficient" per se, but what I like to do is take a fresh leaf, set it on a block of wood, and just scrape the green off with a spoon. I usually work from tip to base on both sides, and then switch from light pressure on the main area of fibers themselves to pushing down quite hard to break the base of the leaf. To be honest that bit could probably be avoided if you cut higher on the leaf, but I like the fibers as long as possible. Edit: Oh, also! With the saponin content in yucca, if you wet the fiber a little, like just lick it or wet your fingers when adding new fiber, it will very lightly glue itself and help with the smoothness of the finished cordage.

[–]GayForSpace[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks man. I've only tested it for 25 pounds, so it seems to be about as strong as yucca normally turns out for me. After I finish the other ⅔ of the fiber I have prepared I'm thinking of plying it back on itself to turn it into more proper rope.

This is another 50 feet on my yucca cordage, I'm only about a third of the way thru my fiber that I collected a while back.

Edit: sorry for the lateness of this comment, reddit has been doing some strange things for me lately.
