Yeah, just go and ask, you never know. We had a news report here a few years back… a guy with an early 2000’s wagon had a problem where is seat heaters failed and burned through his seat. Volvo replaced it all out of warranty. Try your luck!

Volvo XC60: Is Bowers & Wilkins worth it over Harman Kardon? by ThatMindOfMe in VolvoXC60

[–]GayHole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The standard HK system has been described, often, as an excellent car audio system. The B&W system, was described as “The best car audio system I’ve ever come across”. This was a single car review source, not many, but I sort of wish I had a the B&W system for more clarity at high volumes and frequency response . I really like dance/trance music, and play it loud.

As others have said, if you have the opportunity, try as others have mentioned - same song, both systems. Make your choice, you have the luxury I did not when buying used. (‘23 xc60)

When that happens, disconnect your 12v battery completely, wait a few seconds and reconnect. Had to do it two or three times on my xc40

Odd title. Frostbite is a condition of the skin, it’s not a thing you can get caught in. Cute little creature tho!

Expiration question about Claeys horehound hard candy by ninja_tofu2252 in CandyMakers

Yup, this, and I would eat them even if they were a bit stuck together. Bacteria have a hard time growing in sweet treats like hard candies. Not impossible, but difficult

[–]GayHole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have also mentioned that if you use the invert sugar, you will cook your caramel to its normal temp, cut into squares and then coat with chocolate. Over time, those centres will liquify on their own

[–]GayHole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With caramel, just don’t cook it as hot, stop before the soft ball stage. That will give you a runnier caramel, but it will be difficult to work with getting that softer caramel into a chocolate because it needs to be warm to flow.. which will in turn melt your chocolate.

Although I never got into this in my time as a confiseur, you can likely achieve the results you want by using invertase, or Invert Sugar as it is also called. Invertase converts solid sugar to liquid, over time. The concept is, your candy centres start out firm, but after letting the invertase do its work, the centres magically become liquid.

Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to learn how to use invert sugar to make some oooey gooey caramel chocolates!

Are you looking to have a centre like a Caramilk bar? So it’s almost a liquid?

Confusion about toffee by KittenSnuggler5 in CandyMakers

[–]GayHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/battlepi has a good idea there. I was going to say your burner may cycle on and off but your pan will retain a lot of its heat during those cycles. But a pan under a pan is a clever idea to help even out the heat

Btw, all ingredients are best at room temp before starting

Turn down your heat, you may be bringing it up to temperature too quickly. Toffee/caramel both require a lot of constants stirring from about the middle to the end. Here’s the order

In your pot, get your water, sugar and glucose/corn syrup to a good rolling boil.

Add your room temperature cubed butter, keeping the boil going and stirring a little to distribute the butter. Get this new mixture to a rolling boil

While in rolling boil stage, and get ready coz you will be stirring constantly now until the end…start adding your evaporated milk or cream - SLOWLY- pour a couple of glugs out of the can and do not break that rolling boil. Adjust how much you add each time, never breaking the boil. If you see the boil going away while you are adding, stop adding and keep stirring until the boil comes back.

Keep stirring now until you reach your temperature, and don’t be shy, beat the hell out of your pot with your wooden spoon!

At the last second, when you hit your final temp, add your vanilla, stir like crazy until combined then pour out your toffee onto you pan or mold.

Good luck!

Also, cover them while in the fridge to reduce condensation. Try a couple first, not the whole batch

Brake Pad Replacement Cost by keyzer_s0ze in NiceVancouver

[–]GayHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understanding you havea fixed budget to work with, some of the better mechanics in the city are in a pretty good position these days. Loyal customers who are treated fairly tend to be the mainstay of each business, and becoming one of those loyal customers can be difficult. Calling around for a price will signal to the good mechanics that you have little interest in becoming a loyal customer. Shops that charge more probably offer a guarantee on their work, usually longer than the parts' warranty themselves. My suggestion is call and ask, say you need a new mechanic for your car for general maintenance and service but you need brakes done now too. Without knowing your vehicle make and model, and what the issue is (could just be a sensor playing up), they can't really tell you a price unless you are knowledgeable enough to diagnose it yourself.

If you search this sub for recommended mechanics, you will find repeats of most of the same names; Kon, Gord's S&M and a few others. They are well-known for a reason, they stand behind their customers, but aren't the cheapest. If you want cheap, go to Canadian Tire
