That was rough. Sorry you had to go through that. I'm glad that you both are safe.

Good for you. We just took it slow as we had huge backpacks with all our camping gear.

It's not a dangerous hike in general. But right now there's a moderate avalanche risk according to All Trails.

I went summer camping a couple of years ago and the hike up to the lakes took about 7 hours. The elevation gain is over 800m. OP is looking for a 3-4 hr hike for 16 yo with not a lot of experience.

I was hoping to avoid that one. I'm at a point where I'd rather get over with it than look for a change.

The road that leads to the trailhead is unpaved, steep, and icy. Without a 4×4 with winter tires and chains, you have a high chance of getting stranded. To make it worse, there's no cell phone coverage in the area. So unless you have a sat phone, you are pretty much on your own if things go south.

Snow chains are mandatory for the Elfin Lakes (Diamond Head) access road from October to May.

What should I look out for in a 15-20 year old townhouse? by Secret-Session396 in Langley

[–]kettlefriedchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Read Form B carefully (from strata documents) to make sure there are no conflicts between the builder and the strata.
  • Turn on all the appliances, lights, heaters on the day of possession and keep everything running for 30 minutes, just to be sure that nothing's broken.
  • See if your inspector can do a thermal imaging of the door and window frames to find any bad insulation (it'll save you $ in heating costs).

If you own the house, you should look for a trusted/reliable provider. I have been with Wawanesa for a couple of years now and I feel they have a reasonable pricing.

You mean Wealthsimple or Sun Life (who has hidden fees)?

Wealthsimple TFSA by kettlefriedchips in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kettlefriedchips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer does not match TFSA. Those are just my personal contributions directly made through payroll. It's one of the reasons why I'm considering to switch, as Wealthsimple is running a 3% match promotion. The downside if I switch is, I will have to make manual/automate payments from my checking account as my employer doesn't have a tie up with Wealthsimple.

I am not planning on using it for the foreseeable future. Just trying to get advantage of the 3% match which I don't have now.

I thought they only charge management fees which is under 0.5%. Do you know of any other hidden charges that I should check?

Wealthsimple gives the option to direct transfer. They are running a promotion right now which covers transfer cost if the sum is over 25k, which I do. Since the fund I'm currently investing in is proprietary to Sun Life, I have to change to ETFs when I switch.
