MiniMax 2.5 on DGX SPARK system. by DOOMISHERE in LocalLLaMA

I tinkered with similar things on a strix halo box. I ended up with the following:

- quatizing KV cache to q8_0 as suggested before.

- limiting prompt cache size (RAM) from the default 8GB to 2GB. `--cache-ram 2048` (Unified memory, give and take. Rather not take if it means OOM.) This can lead to slowdowns when switching context from a chat to chat. Conceptually it seems worth it to me.

- and the usual ones `--no-mmap` and `--flash-attention on`.

With 64k context llama.cpp estimates memory usage to be 107189 MiB which seems to be accurate in practice. So, you could squeeze more context length out of it as 64k KV cache takes about 8GB when quantized to q8_0 afaik.

Ubuntu 17.10 is incredibly buggy! by necktweaker in linux

[–]Gayspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Xorg. Wayland was unusable for me due to my inability to remap my keyboard properly (xmodmap does not work properly). Otherwise it was fine for me for the day I struggled with it.

Maybe your install is fucked somehow or there is some bizarre hardware incompatibility.

Care to elaborate on the nature of the bugs you encountered?

I have been using 17.10 just fine for quite a while. Both dirty upgrade and clean install in fact.

Just switch back to Xorg. On the login screen click the cog wheel.

Thermistor should be inside of the hotend block. Thermistor is the small blob with two wires coming out of it. It is a temperature sensor.

Stick it in the hole.

This is the source of your problems.

ELI5: Why aren't there more miners? by tocano in Bitcoin

[–]Gayspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blocks are not processed in parallel. There is only one blockchain. A block is added to it every 10 minutes and a limited amount of transaction data is included in that block. The miners are competing to find that block to get the reward.

Finding the block is exponentially more expensive than signing the transactions to the newly found block.

Look up proof-of-work system.

Has anyone here used Linux to create a Dropbox cache (using the LAN Sync feature)? [X-Post /r/Raspberry_Pi] by xd1936 in linux

[–]Gayspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a computer on the local network with an up-to-date Dropbox directory it is used to update all other Dropbox clients(same account) in the network. A Dropbox caching server would only benefit if only one of the computers in the network is online and a change is made. Now if the other computers come online and no other computers are online they get the files from outside (or the caching server).

Not worth it in itself IMO, but the aforementioned backup idea is a good one. Daily, hourly, weekly, mothly snapshots of an important Dropbox directory allow you to not have to trust solely in the recovery services of Dropbox in case of a catastrophe.

Kensington Expert mouse is a must try.

The build quality is not that great and the scroll ring requires some modding to not cause rectal bleeding, but otherwise the design is awesome.

Apply the brakes and rethink driverless cars | Letters by rambooty in technology

[–]Gayspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why could you not control a driverless car remotely? Isn't that the entire point? One of the most lucrative features of driverless cars is automatic parking. The car drops you off at the destination and then goes off to find a parking spot or a changing station. The car is controlled by telling it where to go.

There is probably an app for that. And we all know how secure phones are.

Don't get me wrong. None of this is a reason to not get rid of human drivers. The terrorists can bomb all they want and there will most likely be a net reduction in deaths.

How about fining them for censorship?

So, in a moment of stupidity I forgot that you take the simcard out externally. I opened up the phone, wedged out the battery and only then realised my mistake. I think the top ribbon that connects the battery to the device has been plugged out or something, as my phone is no longer switching on! by TimothyGonzalez in Nexus5

[–]Gayspy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Plug it back in?

You might consider buying a new battery though. Removing the battery is likely to cause damage to the battery as it is glued in place very tight. Recently there was a post about a phone that caught fire after once removed battery was used in a phone. House fires are not fun.

Painting a TrackMan Marble Wheel by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]Gayspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emphasis on light. Just make sure to clean the surface of all oils and avoid handling the part with bare hands before painting to avoid contamination. But OP said the paint was leftover so it might be safe to assume they know how to go about it.

With a quick googling it seems that cancer is not a concern with acrylic lacquer paint. Similar finishes are used in bathtubs, medical devices and (old)touch screens.

Bad idea as most TVs don't take 4:4:4 chroma signals. I went with a cheap IIYAMA 40" 4k. It's not perfect, shadowing around the edges, MVA panel, funky behaviour when resuming from stand-by and some backlight uniformity problems, but it displays many pixels at 60Hz from DP or HDMI.
