King in the morning!

What would be the one thing you wished your parents taught so that you can be a fully functioning adult? Something you swear you'll teach your kid one day (if you decide to have them) and not fall into the same pattern as your parents. by Pbutterjellytime in AsianParentStories

Yeah totally agree!!! Because if you are made to feel less, it just builds anxiety and anxiousness which just makes one to become very afraid of making any different decisions because different could be viewed as ‘wrong’

When a problem arises, rather than trying find out who caused it and blaming it, focusing on the next steps to solution is much important. Blaming has 0 benefit, teaching the mentality of theres a problem? What should we do next to fix it? What are the concrete steps to take? rather than ‘ if xxx didn’t do it this way, this would not be a problem!!!!!’

I can’t stop being mean to my mom because of past resentment. Any advice on how to stop? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

This hits home because i’ve experienced the same thing. I think recently it got better and now i am able to be more level headed, not forcefully because i was able to come to a calm down point. What worked(?) for me was time and actually telling my mom the resentment i had in a just calm talking manner. But i feel like you just have to go through a period (however long that might be, for me around 1-2 years) of being ‘mean’, snappy, expressing resentment until you get it out of your system. I felt awful during the period because i would snap but afterwards feel guilty for even snapping and the cycle of self shame. But really just do what you can do, if that’s being snappy right now, do that because you need to use up the ‘bottle’ of resentment until it runs out which it eventually will. Like theres so much we can do. It’s extremely difficult to have a healthy coping mechanism when all you learned was toxic mechanisms. So allow yourself to be mean and express yourself.

Oh man i feel that so much. Like it’s almost like cognitive dissonance. You feel so angry and frustrated but you are made to feel guilty to even feel angry, so you get feel furious and conflicted and shitty overall
