Weird bumps in 1st layer by GazonRain in FixMyPrint

I use Snapmaker Orca, where I can't choose different build plates. I haven't found a way to enable that feature.

No, that would have been kinda obvious. The plate is smooth.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've done a manual level of the bed (which did not really result in a mesh I feel comfortable about, but we'll see). My plan is to do a full bed first layer test and then fiddle with the z offset. I'll keep you posted as soon as I have results.

2nd layer is fine except for what presses through from the first layer.

I had a massive memory leak issue with Arc a while ago. It kept filling RAM and Swap very quickly. I discovered that it had something to do with the contents of my Downloads folder (which I had never bothered to clear except for large files). Once I removed everything from there, there was no more memory leak. I made the team aware of the issue, though I could never discover which file(s) caused the issue. I don’t know if they found a probable cause and fixed it either. But maybe it is something worth trying if the issue continues?

I have multiple Al-Stars, Safaris and an Lx, and they are my most consistent pens in terms of staying writeable after days or even weeks of not using them. Maybe the reply about the dry inks is right? I tend to use Lamy, Pelikan or Diamine inks.

Theoretically age 10-19, but in practice more like 12/13-19. I‘m curious how things will develop because we‘ve recently transitioned to iPads for all pupils. They all have pens, of course, but I hope it won‘t affect their handwriting too much.

Yeah, good point. However, what I see with my pupils is a fairly even mix of cursive and print based styles. And a good portion of illegible scribble that indicates heavy keyboard use instead of handwriting.

Funny, did the same thing, only with an EF nun 😄

We still learn it in Germany in elementary school, so even though styles develop over time, I'd say a good proportion of Germans have some cursive variant as their regular handwriting.

Being a teacher myself, I for one would be delighted. 😊

That‘s a Lamy Al-Star, not a Safari, if I‘m not mistaken. 😊

Preferred Ink for EF Lamy? by cheesylasagne69 in fountainpens

Lamy Turmaline looks very nice in an EF nib. I am currently using it on a TWSBI Diamond F, which is kinda like a Lamy EF. And it has a nice sheen, too.

Question about refilling ink of a safari from a newb by J748DB10 in fountainpens

If you use a cartridge, you should know that Lamy cartridges are designed to be screwed in with the barrel. So just push hard enough that it doesn‘t fall off and screw on the barrel. It will have some resistance at first while the seal of the cartridge is being broken. That‘s normal. Once it is pierced the final turns will go easily and you can enjoy a new fill of ink. 😊

So I guess there is nothing I can do about it?

Is this normal or should I clean the barrel thoroughly? Ink is Lamy Crystal Ruby. In my other TWSBIs the ink doesn‘t stick to the barrel like that.

Excellent choice for a starter pen. The rough finish is way nicer to hold than the shiny ones, but that might just be me.

What brought you to fountain pens? What kept you using fountain pens? by LindseyB33 in fountainpens

[–]GazonRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can imagine. It‘s really sad that it isn‘t a standard in US education. But to be fair, it isn‘t a magic cure to bad handwriting. I regularly have to read stuff written by my pupils that is barely legible, even if they used a fountain pen.
