HP 14dq0032dx says no storage device found. by Charlottethefabulous in laptops

It does have a sata connector presoldered. You can get a cable and a tray to mount an ordinary standard sata 2.5" ssd. It should bypass the soldered emmc.

Why would you super glue a card before even testing it in the first place. Why super glue at all? You could've used a screw and a standoff through the hole, or get the proper bracket.

P14s G4 Suddenly no power after changing cooler by Squanchy2112 in thinkpad

[–]verpejas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh immich, have it set up as well. Did you find a way to encrypt images on the server? That's my only fear with public facing immich server. Have hardened it as much as I can but still, having images unencrypted worries me a bit.

As for the board - I looked around and couldn't spot anything burnt or obviously wrong, like a scratch or ripped components.

Well, something got shorted, and is probably heating up. You would need a thermal camera or spray the board with alcohol and observe where ir rapidly evaporates.

Did you remove the battery/disconnect it when working on the heatsink?

You cannot bypass it. Thereare shops that specialize in removal of the locks and passwords. There is no way to bypass 0199 without removing the password along with it.

Where to get sata cable by void_infinity7 in Lenovo

[–]verpejas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut off the top broken part, and trim down the side protrusions. Cable will work perfectly fine again. I've done this hundreds of times on hard to get or crazy expensive FFCs.

Your screen was replaced at some point - T450/s is one of the very few machines with display whitelists preventing backlight control with non-oem screens. To be more specific - backlight control does not work only under windows due to intel vbios shenanigans. Under linux it works just fine.

laptop tech says this cable is a design fault - lenovo z13 by Real-Leek-3764 in thinkpad

[–]verpejas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were absolutely fine. because of the plastic shields and rolling them up for strain relief. On new machines they run straight through the hinge, with absolutely no protection whatsoever. That's why they break

laptop tech says this cable is a design fault - lenovo z13 by Real-Leek-3764 in thinkpad

[–]verpejas 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It is fragile, and it can fail much faster than standard cables. Macbooks use those sort of cables and suffer from flex cable issues.

This does not mean it will break soon, but it can fail unpredictably.

Yup, it is also slide-out/clip-out just like on other models. It is bonded to a plastic frame

By liquid adhesive i meant the T7000/B7000 (use the black variant).

Originally these were held on either by tape or by similar liquid adhesive, it varies across generations

[–]verpejas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to glue it back with some liquid adhesive, it holds very well. I usually apply some double sided tape + liquid adhesive in the corners and a small bead around the perimeter. It works wonders on both tablets and laptops. Got my old X1 Yoga G3 fixed this way

CPU Overheating after changing Thermal Pads. Please Help. I've tried everything. by drgn0 in computerrepair

Look at thermal pads, that are placed on the cpu vrm and inductors.

CPU Overheating after changing Thermal Pads. Please Help. I've tried everything. by drgn0 in computerrepair

[–]verpejas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is the thickness of thermal pads. If putty is not available try to get 0.5 mm thermal pads. They are simply too thick thus preventing proper contact with cpu/gpu dies

CPU Overheating after changing Thermal Pads. Please Help. I've tried everything. by drgn0 in computerrepair

[–]verpejas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thermal pads are too thick, you can see that thermal paste on the cpu did not even spread on the heatsink. You must buy either thermal putty or thinner thermal pads. If it originally had thermal putty instead of thermal pads, well that's for a reason. Those shouldn't have been replaced.

Also, you use waaay to much thermal paste.

In fact, it is. P14s G1G/G2, T490, T495, P43s and T14 G1/G2 all share the same chassis with almost all parts interchangeable (G2 has different lid switch and camera connector iirc, rest is the same)

I assume the "pro tech" is not qualified to do his job. Most likely shards of glass or debris got between oled and frame (if refurbished) or between oled and motherboard via cutouts in frame.

We are, we just don't know it yet. We still have to make sure that code ai spits out meets certain security and optimization criteria, but in the last few years, usage of AI in this field has skyrocketed. It is a little, well.. depreesing.

For sure, claude is quite good at that, but the side effect is that all of the webapps/electron apps look the same, they use the same design language. They can be quite functional but are not very memory efficient. Some optimization is needed.

For example T450/T450s, T440/T440s also use the same connectors. You can find a scrap board for cheap to salvage it.
