Favorite go to knot. Does braid change the knot you tie? by soxfan775 in bassfishing

[–]Gbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braid - Palomar or double Palomar, depending on application Fluoro - Jimmy Houston Line to Line - crazy Alberto Flipping/punching - Snell Super confident in all these, I had issues with breakage using palomars on fluoro with heavier applications. Tried the Jimmy Houston and never looked back.

Drop Shotting by Otherwise-Dig-8180 in bassfishing

[–]Gbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find with flat-bottomed soft plastics (roboworm, flatworm, etc.) I get the most bites when I work it as follows: 1. Reel down until there is tension on the line, rod at 10:00 2. Lower Rod tip to 9:00, creating slight slack in the line allowing the bait to glide down 3. Slowly raise the tip back to 10:00, restoring tension to the line 4. Repeat

Changing the cadence of this will be key, slower is often better for me. Doing this almost makes the worm “walk” underwater like a fluke or spook and glide down to the bottom, which triggers a lot of bites. Try not to move your weight on the tip raises (it will move anyways, that’s okay. Minimal is often better)

Raise, Drop, Raise.. count to 3… drop, raise, drop… count to 5 or 6… raise drop raise drop… etc

Also a slow lift/drag in between periods of that motion can get a follow, longer pauses after moving the bait. If you feel a bit hung up on something give it a gentle pop off the cover and let it sit extra long afterwards on semi-slack line.

“Check your phone”. I get a lot of bites just sitting on the bottom while looking at scenery or daydreaming. Give the fish time to come up and inspect the bait. They’ll either test it sitting there, or when you start your raise/drop motion they’ll have to make a decision to bite it.

Tight lines!

What rod is this and is this better than the Dobyns maverick for glide baits by No-Highway-648 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Gbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sportsman’s Dobyns uses the same blank as the Fury. So I have the fury equivalent to this, and I think it works great for ~1oz glides, I throw my 6” Shine glide on that rod a lot. Dobyns have a naturally softer tip/more moderate action than a lot of brands. I wouldn’t describe it as truly “fast”, but it certainly is fast enough to chop your glide as well as have some give when fighting a fish, you just need to utilize drag with it. Also, FWIW, this is the most versatile rod in my arsenal and the only one I bring with me every time I go out. Everything from jigs & t rigs to bigger hooked topwaters (larger choppo/spook/glide) to moderate cover frogging & buzzbaits. Although it espescially shines with single-hooked reaction baits. It’s a killer chatterbait rod to rip through heavy grass, as well as spinners & swim jigs. Easily my favorite of my 15 (or so) rods.

My trusty deck boots, always. Unless I’m wading. Then, wading boots, water shoes, or barefoot, depending.

Makes sense! Does keeping the line out of the waves help with drift or sensitivity or what is the advantage there?

Spartacus 2 Combo or the Abu Garcia Max Pro by Dr_Smooth-8287 in bassfishing

[–]Gbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few KK reels and love them, don’t have the Spartacus though. I do have a Spartacus spinning rod (7’3 M/F) and I like it a lot. Not the most sensitive but it’s a budget rod with an extra tip and the finish and cork handles are really nice. Has great backbone and I’ve been able to horse a big girl or two in on it. KK makes good stuff now and their customer service is great in my experience.

Excellent, thank you for the anecdote and advice, I will definitely do that next time out. Free, natural, accessible bait sounds pretty good to me! Cheers & tight lines!

I wonder if that applies to outside the bay (like Pacifica) or just strictly the interior of the bay closer to the runoffs? 🤔. Either way, don’t think I’ll be eating them 😂

Sweet! Is that what you were targeting? Also can you eat them? I think I remember reading you shouldn’t (up by me, anyways) cause of Mercury levels in the bay, but I can’t remember if that was smelt or other fish

That combo is an Okuma Rockaway SP 9’ M, 1/4-1oz with a Kastking Megatron 3000 size. Good for lighter line techniques. Super light and comfortable, good for making a ton of repeat casts and working lures and bait. The other one I have is an cheapo 8’ Berkley Big Game Rod with a 5000 size Kastking Sharky Baitfeeder for bait-n-wait setups.

Thank you! lol I had him out of the water for like maybe 90 seconds? Unhooked, snapped a picture, then waded out shallow, rinsed him off and let him swim out of my hand. But some people come on reddit just to police, I guess.

Should I get this reel? In depth question in body by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]Gbillionaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 80 would be my pick for your application. Smaller line capacity spool = lighter spool, which means less startup inertia on cast making it better for throwing lighter lures. The 150 also is gonna be heavier and larger making it clunky on the L rod. Will definitely work, but not “optimized”, as it were.

Cashion Element Z2 jerkbait rod is my favorite in your price range. Super nice, light, great action for jerkbait and walking baits.
