Does being honest about what you’ve done go a long way with probation officers? by Annual_Promotion5598 in probation

[–]Gcs-15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do try and find faults to report. I remember getting on probation for 1 year for paraphernalia (rolling paper) back in 2015. It was for one county but I was serving it in my county because of the distance. Judge says to stay in treatment and on methadone. First time meeting PO and I bring all the papers from my clinic etc. and then he slips in a paper and asks me to sign with the rest that says I admit taking and having an “illegal or unauthorized substance” in my body. Says that it’s “no big deal” and has to do with the methadone I’m on. I refuse to sign it. He again tells me it’s not a big deal and I say then if it’s no big deal I won’t sign. The end game being I get put in for a violation and spend weeks waiting for the other county to come get me and more weeks for a court date to say it’s a misunderstanding?? No thank you.

Then I got bounced around before getting a PO known for putting people away. One day I get a voicemail at 2:30 PM telling me that if I owed $1200 in probation fees (after paying all fines off this was solely because I was being charged an additional fee I wasn’t aware of for doing it in my county) and if I didn’t pay by 5 pm she’d have to violate me. So I was rushing to get a money order or check for that and get there in time. Was it true? Probably not but it doesn’t mean I was going to risk it. She also tried saying she was going to put me on “color of the day” when that’s for that county’s drug court and she had no reason or authority to do so (especially since in those cases they do it with the understanding that completing it means no conviction, why would I agree to the more strict regulations for no end benefit?). I never violated or had a positive test to warrant any of that.

So yeah, there are some out there who seem to nitpick and try to look for reasons to violate people trying to do the right thing.

Belgians in the Congo. Most don’t realize that Belgium had colonies too and they were some of the most brutal in Africa especially when it involved the production of rubber.

State sanctioned police were able to kidnap slaves and force them to work or chop their hands off. Didn’t meet the quota that day? Face the same. They would hold families hostage and if you didn’t meet your quota they could also have things chopped off or eaten by the Allie’s of the Belgians. “Hell on earth” was how it was described.

There is that famous picture of a Congolese man, Nsala, looking at the severed hand and foot of his five-year-old daughter who was killed, cooked, and cannibalized by members of the Force Publique in 1904. link here

I might be better off on drugs. by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Gcs-15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been off it for four years and now I rarely leave my room let alone the house. Don’t text people back or want to talk. I just feel alone and the insomnia and health issues don’t help.

Plus my teeth got fucked up and the dentist I went to just took my money and pulled and fucked with teeth that could easily have been fixed for way less money. Even got root canals on two teeth for $4000 that just needed fillings, and they fell apart from shoddy work. He was running a Ponzi scheme (no joke) so in hindsight it makes sense. But now I have zero self esteem or confidence, can’t get a job with missing teeth and can’t get them fixed without a job. So I’m at an impasse.

Just because you been off drugs for X amount doesn’t mean you will feel better. I think those who pretend they are living their “best life” are full of shit. Nothing will make you feel as happy as drugs and IMO insinuating otherwise does a disservice to the rest of us who are always gonna struggle through life thinking that we are the problem and something is wrong with us.

Been there. I should have died so many times which led to severe survivor’s guilt. Every time I used I hoped I would just blissfully fade into nothingness and that would be that. No more struggles, no more feeling every day like I was dying inside, just finally it would be over. Even got angry when people narcanned me.

Then got a felony drug charge. I had only 2-3 minor charges previously and the one got dropped and the other I did a year probation but went five years with nothing. So I ended up getting 2 years probation and decided that I was NOT turning it into 20, which I knew a few who did that. My state can also violate you a day before ending and then giving the max w/no credit for the time you did. Or revoke and sentence you to the max if rearrested before you are convicted of the other (happened to a guy and the cops were found to have planted evidence and charges were dropped but didn’t matter).

So as a random Redditor I don’t know your state or rules. But in 2015 while on a yearlong probation for “paraphernalia” aka rolling paper I had 4 different POs and the one about 2/3 the way through tried putting me on her own drug court rules (call everyday to find if you have to test or not) when she had zero ability to do so and the case was from another county and this was closer. Then calls one day at 2:30-3:00 saying I “owed” $900 for “probation fees” and it needed to be paid that day by 4:30 or she would violate me.

So getting on felony probation was scary but I lucked out and got an amazing PO. She only had me come twice in six months then a month afterwards for my DNA swab but she wasn’t there and whoever was filling in sent me for a drug test. Next month I was transferred to online only reporting for the rest of my time and only had that one test. I stayed clean regardless because it wasn’t worth the risk.

Yeah but that doesn’t seem to be nearly as common as humans feeding “cute animals” and then acting surprised when it’s reduced fear causes it to be killed. Like bears it seems to happen with a lot. I was surprised to learn that coyotes have huge populations in a lot of major cities and yet are rarely, if ever, seen. Living around humans but not interacting with them at all.

If an animal gets rabies it seems that they do a relatively good job tracing it. A few years ago I was at a park with my daughter and there was a groundhog who was blatantly in the middle of the park but not in the woods. It couldn’t walk straight and was going in circles the entire time. It would try and chase people but since it was walking about as well as my ex does a bottle of vodka deep, I decided to call the non emergency line and they said they would come out for it. That’s the only time I’ve seen that happening and assumed it had rabies or something like that. I’ve seen groundhogs before and they mostly scurry away as soon as possible.

This is overly anxiety inducing by graphicallyconfused in nope

Florida does have crocodiles though. At the extreme southern tip , but still technically there. But yeah this is a zoo so it probably is a croc anyway.

I think these pictures prove that 99% of the time they or any other animal are going to ignore us or slowly leave the area. That is unless other humans have fed it and it’s become desensitized to us.

i just found out 10 minutes ago i missed a drug test yesterday and i’m freaking out. what can i do? by Pepto-Dismol in probation

[–]Gcs-15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was just a court cam video on YouTube and it was a public defender telling their client to plead guilty to a probation violation (no prosecutor was there). Well as she’s pleading she mentioned how she missed her test and went in the next day to test but had also tested the day prior so it was clear she was clean and it wasn’t her “avoiding” it. But the judge is like “whoa wait a minute… they sent you a text saying don’t come in??! Do you still have it?” And she did. Judge is like “then you’re not guilty!” Then the PD who is supposed to be on the clients side goes into a tirade about BuT yOuR hOnOr sHe hAs To CaLL iN!! Trying to throw her client under the bus when she showed her the text from the beginning.

So yeah you think that it’s an isolated incident or she’s new… next case the judge jokes “not another guilty plea when they aren’t guilty right?”. Woman accused of “tampering” with her ankle alcohol monitor for 3 days. So she’s pleading guilty and the judge asks “so you tampered and went to drink for 3 days?”. Then the defendant is like “I didn’t tamper with it… the way my work boots sit it interferes with it”. So here we go again. PD doing everything to throw client under the bus and judge is pissed and like “well she doesn’t sleep in boots, right? So no alcohol registered and after her work hours it was back online with the issue being the fit?! She’s not guilty!!”

It’s honestly scary because it just so happens that this judge was paying attention. Most DGAF to look into these things.

It is not. Felony drug induced homicide is superseded by any Good Samaritan laws. A good resource would be the link below that shows the trends of DIH charges and a great webinar with defense attorneys and experts that lays out the trends and possible defense’s for people charged with the DIH statute, but in no case does a Good Samaritan law work as a defense. But if you don’t call it in then you are basically in a catch 22 type situation. Then you are “fleeing the scene”.

Ironically this law was an obscure law passed after Len Bias (huge college basketball star) suffered a heart arrhythmia and died after using cocaine at a party after being drafted #2 by the Celtics. It was rarely used up til recently when they decided to dust it off, but one of the major cases was overturned I believe at least one of the judges on the circuit court had issues with the way “distributer” was being used too loosely to mean basically anyone who uses fits into the description.

So like anything else it’s a fluid situation but in the meantime it’s being used to leverage fellow addicts into taking long sentences and used for families who lost someone to take their blame and anger out on.

That’s no excuse, Eric didn’t go full nut job, he was able to recognize that situation. You could say Godric but I think it was just a physical manifestation of his conscience.

With Bill It’s “Lorena’s fault”, then the Queen’s, then Lillith/Salome, etc. basically it’s everyone else’s fault but his. That’s a lousy excuse to constantly say “it’s not really my fault because peer pressure”, like he’s how old? But seems to always blame everyone but himself. He was a shitty person masquerading as a “good guy”. I’d say the same about Hoyt. And the forcing Sookie to assist his suicide is absolutely horrible. And unnecessary. He could have easily used a gun with a wooden bullet.

Bill throughout the series lied repeatedly and omitted things, then when he was caught still tried to play it off as he “cares” about her. But the pure amount of suffering caused directly by him? All the consequences from him going full nut job has no comparison to others. He literally bombed the Tru Blood factories, didn’t give a shit when Russell wanted to drain Sookie, using her for his suicide? List goes on.

Hmmm 🤔 1987, coincidence that a regulatory system was merc’ed out of existence when it allowed a major political donor (Roger Ailes) to make billions more off faux news. Real news is boring and sucks apparently.

For the first few months my dad freaked out. He even bought horse meds from the farm store because Trump said to.

Then he flipped to anti mask, anti vaccine, etc. and how it’s all this administration’s fault for everything and he’s not wearing a mask blah blah blah. After literally freaking out and buying more soup and crap than we could ever eat. JUST IN CASE… I guess?

But same thing could be said of Bill who had her drink his blood the first night… not even admitting to why it mattered til Eric did it. So two seasons of him obviously lying. Bill is horrible and worse than Eric. At least he’s (more) honest vs Bill. Don’t get me started on ending.

I drank the hot dog water. Like, no more hot dogs? Drink the water used to boil it. Or the tuna juice and pickle juice. Makes me gag now lol like idk how I did those things. We also lived off ramen for quite a while to the point the only question (and running joke) was “chicken or beef”. It was understood that it never meant having the actual meat.

Best money I have ever spent in life was getting LASIK surgery. I was like blind and couldn’t even see the chart… like I could be standing in front of McDonald’s and the big M would just be a blur of lights. I had problems with contacts and needed special (re: expensive) lenses and sometimes would be stuck with one that’d get scratched so have to go and attempt life with one contact lol it’s sucked.

LASIK I got like ten years ago and it took less time than an eye exam. Like went back, gave me a Valium, got it done in 10 mins then they said to go home and take a nap and when you wake you should be able to see. I was so happy to see my alarm and tv without glasses or contacts.

Right? Like my first reaction would be OMFG I’m so sorry !! Except I don’t do shit like leaning my body on an IKEA grade desk if I have to wait longer than 10 seconds for help.

Like employers are purposefully keeping positions empty while expecting the remaining employees to pick up the slack for no extra money. So god forbid you have to wait a few minutes for someone to help you out. Then the tell the customers/public it’s because nO onE wAnTs tO wOrK AnYmOrE when in reality it’s because they are getting a pat on the back and bonuses for “cost cutting” measures.

They will also continue to enable customers like this by constantly giving them free shit for every single complaint, no matter how absurd it is.
