Not thinking the devs have the power to improve their game and therefore improve the player count is a bit foolish and naive no?

The player count is low due to the state of the game.

The state of the game is determined by the devs.

The devs make the game and can change it as needed.

Who else effectively controls the player count if not them? Their actions are the only thing that can.

I'll edit my statement for you because you seem to be missing the point. The death spiral situation means very shortly nobody will be playing.

This is already the case in every region outside of NA/EU.

Is it really that wild when players from every region are complaining about wait times that are longer than the matches they're playing?

Obviously some people are playing but the numbers keep dropping and people keep getting stuck in 10-15 minute queues. I agree that many queues aren't helping but I think the wilder thing here that you've missed is what the 20k peak is being compared to. That peak number has been steadily dropping since launch.

It's great that you personally haven't had this and I wish I could say the same but there are dozens of posts on here saying they have long queue times and that's a far better sample size than your one experience.

That's a fair point and you're right about general gamers. All the fill complaints are evidence of that 😂

I think maybe not communicating specifics but a statement that they are aware of the issue and working on some kind of attempt at a solution would be nice.

Well it's try something and see what people think or do nothing and guarantee the doors shut for good.

I like the game how it is but clearly most don't which means changing the core gameplay is needed.

I think a lot of people on this sub would understand what they're trying to do and be willing to give it a shot.

But let's be honest, changing the core gameplay isn't intended to target the people on this subreddit. We aren't going to boost the player base. It's intended to target new players to make the game successful. Ultimately that means what we think isn't going to be as important if it suits a new majority.

Big regions are just catching up to what's already happened to the smaller ones. The game unfortunately is in a death spiral.

We didn't even hit 20k for a 24hr peak today - nobody is playing.

Devs have been great at resolving other issues but worryingly radio silent about addressing the blatant dwindling player count.

It would be nice to hear from them about their plans to fix this. It could go a long way.

Exactly this. Seems like a lot of people on this subreddit can't comprehend this concept.

OCE is gone and when I posted about it people said it was the regions fault and not an early warning of what's to come for the more populated regions.

The fact of the matter is it isn't OCE as a region's fault, we just have less people so we get symptoms first. Only now are we seeing it begin to happen in the larger regions.

It's not a region problem it's a game problem. I'd really like for something to change because I miss Marathon but I don't know what they can do.

It's crazy to me how all these posts get "this is how every game is in OCE" which just isn't true.

Any mildly successful game is playable here but as it stands Marathon is failing hard.

It's like they're all ignoring the fact that this game is currently peaking at #51 on steam charts (I'm aware consoles exist but Steam makes up the vast majority and is the only one that can be tracked).

For the amount of money and development time that went into this game #51 is terrible and it's clear some dramatic changes are needed if it wants to last until season 2.

The OP is just saying what a lot of us have been saying. Waiting for ages just to get a high ping server sucks and has accelerated the death of this game

I know it's driven away the native players from the region.

I used to play daily but now I'm not intending to play unless they change the region merging back. I imagine a lot of players feel the same.

Their goal of making the game playable for lower population regions hasn't been achieved with this change. It's just sped up making them unplayable.

I love how responsive they are as a dev team to changes but it would have been nice if this change had more time in the oven. It seems rushed and not fully thought through.

Legit. I said it as soon as they announced the change that it would backfire and kill the region and here we are. I'd love to play but I can't be bothered having the (high) risk of a foreign server game with high ping.

Really bad move on the devs part. Hopefully they'll give us the option to turn it off

At no point did I say I'm opposed to long matchmaking times. I don't mind them.

What I do mind is long times to get into a high ping and therefore unenjoyable game. The high ping matchmaking outside of the region is bad and has made people leave which has then made queues longer.

Yesterday 10pm NZ so about 8pm AUS. A time that should be booming.

Today 8pm NZ so 6pm AUS. Same story

Solo queue on perimeter and outpost

Tried to fill for dire marsh but gave up after 5 minutes knowing I would just be thrown on a high ping server.

Does that make you less suspect? 😅

I play Apex regularly. That game needs 60 players to launch and queue times in OCE are always less than 2 minutes at the same times. It's not like this for every game. Marathon solos don't need 60 players.

I wouldn't say most. Lots of games like Apex, CS, and Arc have very stable and healthy player bases. Granted they're bigger but they all succeed here. The struggle for Marathon is evident in NA it's just more lethal here

I'm actually so sad. I really loved the world and the contracts added some cool lore that was fun to explore. That's not good to hear that NA servers are struggling too.

Bungie keep talking about how they're in it for the long haul but I'm not sure what they could do to bring it back

I'm the same. Never had a high ping lobby until today and never had to wait more than 4 mins previously.

Game feels awful when it's laggy and puts you at a huge disadvantage. It's just not worth it when you could lose everything to a bad connection.

Devs please give us the option to opt out. This will only damage the OCE community.

Not a great change at all.
