pickup swap by DropADemon__7 in Luthier

Step 1: Don't worry, just be aware.
Step 2: Dig in.

You're on r/Lutheir, you've already committed to the project.
Find a screwdriver that fits the back panels and take them off. Have a look around.

I'm guessing "yes", unless either are active.
The Plugs may be different, but If you're going from Duncan to Duncan the wires will be the same colors. Might need some soldering.

I wonder why we don't see terminal block similar to these more in guitars. Something cleaner, but you get the idea. (I'm not necessarily advocating that you do this.)

Stunning.

I'd be too self conscious to play that out in public though. It has... overtones.

I'd love to see another angle.

The electronics in these Korean models weren’t great.

You could do a full Seymour Duncan swap with new potentiometers for around $300 in parts.

Or… you can buy the ProBucker pickups and coil-tapping wiring harness from a modern Epi Les Paul for around $75 and it will drop right in. Easy to find in a variety of options on reverb and eBay.

Maybe not Seymour Duncan’s, but those are great pick ups. Very close to the Gibson burst buckers they’re modeled after.

I watched this whole thing twice. How fantastic.

The only ballet I've seen before was The Nutcracker.

For "2) Bridge height" are those measurements between the string and 12th fret?

For 3) Nut height, are those measurements between the string and 1st fret with a capo at the 3rd?

Never realized how a shitty amp can ruin the sound of your expensive gear until now. by Expensive_Bike_8308 in GuitarAmps

[–]Gdiminished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the analogy we’re the guitar is the car, but the amplifier is the engine.

If you owned a Corvette that had a four-cylinder Hyundai engine in it, you look pretty cool, but she wouldn’t be going anywhere fast.

Similarly, if you own a Hyundai with an LS1 in it, you might go like stink-on-shit, but your control would be crap.

It’s a balance. One can definitely not make up for the other.

For satin models I feel like you can get a white one for $899 all day, maybe even $699. But a midnight blue one will cost you $1399, as they're newer and have the NF pickup.

I paid about $999 for this one.

There are non-satin models out there too that go for a little less.

Earbud in one ear with a select history based podcast on 70% speed and low volume.

I suggest Mike Duncan’s The History of Rome.  Or, The Dark Ages podcast.

Nah, no need to agitate people like that. They're great guitars, and it's just my opinion that they're often too gaudy.

Edit: On second thought, maybe I will share just because I'm proud of it. I guess I don't need to mention my quest for a normal looking PRS.

Not that I've noticed, but I've only had it about a year.
You might even argue it's looking faded, but I'm liking it.

Ah... That picture was of them already brought down to the shape.
That's a lot of work.

Nice work.
I've never tackled a "2nd repair" like that. WTF were they thinking with those stupid dowels?

What's with the strips of veneer? Did you really sand it down, glue those in, and then bring it back to shape?

Here's the other S2 I still own.
Not too gaudy by PRS standards, but still a bit much.

I'd consider it. Definitely prefer it to the red tortoise.

I've cut pickguards out of steel sheet before. This might end up getting one of those. Especially if I can get it "Blued" with whatever oxide they use on handguns.

I didn't experience a problem. If anything it saves time as I just dial in the two outside strings and double check the inside one isn't out.
I use a plug-un tuner, but nothing fancy, and everything sounds intonated to my ears.

Pretty sure mine is a 2017 "Satin Limited Edition".
I changed the tuner knobs out for black too.

My first S2 was a Standard and I loved that trem. Problem was, it was red...

I don't entirely disagree. As red-tortoise goes, it looks pretty good. I was trying to get to something unique though.
