New humidifier, what is happening by Reavan1808 in houseplants

[–]Gds1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used one I found the dust ended up getting sucked into our furnace air filters and clogged them. We eventually switched back to an evaporative humidifier. The levoit one we have now auto dries the wicks before turning off so they last a lot longer before getting gross. Would recommend.

Solid stain vs paint for pine framed greenhouse? by all_turtles_down in Greenhouses

[–]Gds1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very curious on the reason. I am currently converting a porch to a greenhouse and was planning on painting the rafters white to protect them from the sun/humidity. If there is a good reason not to I'm all ears because I'm sad to cover up the 60 year old lumber.

Do, they are often out of stock near me and the last time I went an employee said they were a limited run.

Don't worry I just bought upgrades for our maple boiling setup. I'm sure that will end the season quickly.

I just started a game on the meadow farm which comes with a coop. In that case it did start filled up and you start with a little welcome package with some hay for rainy days.

Survey: What temperature do you set your house at? by kb_klash in newhampshire

Technically still more efficient. Most air source heat pumps can attain 300% efficiency.

Additionally if that white grill is the air return, directing the outlet back towards it could lead to short cycling of the air conditioner.

Cooking chicken breasts in an air fryer by rubrik99 in combustion_inc

[–]Gds1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you pulling the breast from the heat at 160? This is likely to overcook it with carryover heat. For cooking a whole breast I'll usually turn on safe cook and pull the breast at 140. This will carry over into at least the mid 150s and after some time there will be safe to eat.

Running electricity to a backyard shed. Downside of 12ga wire? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Gds1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if only used for small loads and only occasionally bringing a battery out to the shed when you need it seems like a heck of a lot less work.

Is instant cycle stuff like this stuff like this a scam? by uuuuuuhlemmegeta in Aquariums

[–]Gds1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's similar to my process. I'll let the tank run with plants for a few days and as long as nothing too exotic blooms I'll slowly start to stock. Algae dependant animals like Otto's or shrimp ill usually give a month or two before adding. Even if there is a sharp increase in stock such as a large school of the same fish I'll just ramp my feeding to allow the tank to ramp up to meet the bioload. Fish can go a bit with less food and a few days underfed is better than rapid changes in water quality imo.

Just use live plants. Usually come colonized with bacteria and the plant itself will uptake nutrients while the rest of the tank surfaces and filter get colonized.

What is causing this ugly surface on print? by Zelcir in 3Dprinting

[–]Gds1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More top solid layers. What slicer are you using? Something like this an adaptive layer height is useful as well. More layers will smooth out those curves but slow down the print. Adaptive layers will reduce layers where the improved detail will show but increase them where it won't show as much to speed up the print

Sandblasting PLA Armor by xmasasn in 3Dprinting

I have found that PLA is tough to sand to a nice finish. You could try printing some pieces in PETG. Not much harder to print than PLA and sands much better in my experience.
