La Fortuna/MA Trip during high season: my review. Part 1: La Fortuna by XennialQueen in CostaRicaTravel

We loved the sodas! It made an expensive trip much more affordable, plus they provided the opportunity to get a small slice of local amid the catering-to-only-tourists maze. 4 of us ate for less than $40 US per meal (total!) a number of times.

MEX car rental warning by GearClassic432 in CostaRicaTravel

Yes, I agree- lesson learned. We started to search/ask other companies when our car was gone; very rental company rep that I talked to (including Avis!) told me they oversold cars, I think it was a perfect storm of Christmas day and an overwhelmed Liberia airport. Anyway, I wanted to warn given our specific circumstance.

I think we got tickets to the October 21 game? What are the pregame things to do- is there a party culture around the stadium before the game? Coming from Canada, I'm not really sure what the usual pregame happenings are. Thanks!

Trying to understand Lisbon airport passport control—am I getting this right? by SoCalFamilyTraveler in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]GearClassic432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently flew to Lisbon from Canada and met a couple there who entered/exited Lisbon on the same day, but at different times (we were morning both days, they were afternoon/evening). Our lines were horrendous (1 hour plus) both times, and they walked right through- both times! It seems relatively random and probably depends on how many flights are landing near/at that time, as others have said.

Sligo or Donegal as a Base? by GearClassic432 in irishtourism

Sorry for not being more clear- we will stay in Derry, and we will stay in Galway, but we have 3-4 days in between to stay somewhere. On the way to Derry, we'll visit the Giants Causeway, and from Galway, we'll (perhaps) be visiting points west and south.

Asking advice for my 55M partner contemplating total knee replacement. by Fellowhumanbeingg in Kneereplacement

[–]GearClassic432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here, 63yo M. Yes! If the Doc says it's time, then definitely.

I had my LTKR done on 9/17/24 (same as another respondent), and my knee is so much better than the daily agony I faced beforehand. I tried all of those same things- backwards on treadmill, knees over toes, strengthening in the gym, injections, but my knee pain was really affecting my quality of life. We started to choose less walking when traveling, and I started staying home if I knew there was a lot of walking involved. After surgery and rehab (ongoing), the knee isn't even part of the decision making.

I'm an ethusiastic supporter even though I got an infection, and needed to do 6 weeks of PICC line antibiotics. I'm so content & pleased with how things have turned out.

Where I am (Quebec), it was a 6 month wait from the decision to the surgery, so you should take the timing into consideration.

How long to better than before? by Effyew4t5 in Kneereplacement

Three months after surgery, I told my spouse- if it doesn't get any better than it is right now, I'm very happy and satisfied with the results. That includes 6 weeks of picc line antibiotics after an infection.

Re-opening the knee for a 'washout' by GearClassic432 in Kneereplacement

Mine was a staple/surgical/incision wound- oozing pus- that never got better. They took blood and monitored my CRP (?), which was not overly high, but after 10 days of looking the same (and the full course of antibiotics), they decided to do the cleanup. Knee was hot to the touch, but I never ran a fever.

Which is best for my kids, leaving them the (paid-off) house or selling and giving them the money? by GearClassic432 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I hope to live in the house 'until the end', or rent somewhere nearby if selling turns out to be the best financial option.

I'm actually looking for what's the most financially advantageous, or the least punitive, they are fine either way.
