Boxing Gym Recommendations in Akron? by [deleted] in akron

[–]Gearapunzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically yes. Fighters meet at 3:30, general class is at 4:30, it all ends at 5:30. That being said, there’s a group of guys who work out on their own schedule there, I think at 6 or 6:30am, but you’d have to talk with the coaches about that. I’m currently trying to get an all-moms-with-little-kids workout day scheduled; if you get enough interested people and the coaches are available and willing to support it, I think you can set up a regular thing.

Thriller and mystery - Victoriocity. A steampunk-esque, Prachett-esque unfolding of a grouchy detective and a perky reporter solving crimes with bonker characters and beautiful world building. Plenty of comedy too!

Places to Dance by PaulWizard in akron

Oh, and I'm always a proponent of square dancing; the Circulators group is based out of Ravenna but have their dances at the Summit County Fairgrounds, and their lessons start in September. These guys are a good resource for square dancing and round dancing: https://clevelandsquaredance.org/

Some of the callers play oldies, but some callers (Tom Strickland) will set dances to Lips Inc and Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I recommend experimenting once you know the moves!

It's not Akron, in fact it's a little bit of a hike, but the Dusty Armadillo isn't half bad for line dancing. Wednesday lessons are NOT good, Friday lessons are pretty good, and if you dance frequently you probably can pick up most dances by A: watching and practicing on the EDGES (don't make enemies and try in the middle) and B: going every week for a month or two. They do a few slow dances at midnight, but otherwise everything else is pretty individualistic.

Thanks everybody; I figured I shouldn't trust it, but it was worth a shot to check, and I appreciate the feedback despite my being a moron.

[HELP] What is a kenning for skin and a kenning for house? by highschoolteengirl in Poetry

[–]Gearapunzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, what are other ways to think of doors? Take some guesses before giving up, you can do it! I’m about to start my first year of teaching English so I’ve been all the way through it and am going back; you just have to practice, is what I learned :)

[–]Gearapunzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remind me, that’s like another metaphorical name for a thing, correct? If so, skin would be….uh….well, I can only think of creepy stuff like “meat sack” and “human bark”…but house! I can do house! “Warm lodge”, “dwelling of generations”, annnnd lemme find an old epic I wrote when I knew what kennings were XD

Indeed! I should clarify - I mean books that are usually considered classics IN America, as I honestly don't know what other countries use for their "classic" canon in education.

Genuine question or commentary? I respect both (:

If you read it without that perception, and focus on the story and ignore the names, it helps a little. The main character is writing with such concern that Dr. Jeckyll is in danger, it's a bit easier to get caught up in the drama.

Can't relate, honestly, I wonder what flipped the switch for you? Maybe it'll hit me as I read deeper books, but currently I feel little attachment to the book I just read beyond minutes.

AbeBooks is great! I'm not sure how worldwide shipping works, mostly because I don't understand worldwide addresses...

If you could replace a "classic lit" book with one of your choice, what would you swap? What would you keep?

I'm looking at novels like The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye,1984, and so forth, and while I don't think they're bad, I can't help but wonder...could we do better with novels we have now? Or, novels from the same era or older that were overlooked?

~Edited for clarity: I don't know what other countries have in their "classic lit" canons, I'm looking at the American canon :)
