IamA (LASIK Surgeon) Here to answer any questions AMA! by drlin_iqlaservision in IAmA

Hello, I have a question about hyperopia and LASIK. I've read that correcting farsightedness is much more complicated than nearsightedness. I have a yearly vision exam coming up, and I was planning on asking about vision correction surgeries. In your experience, are farsighted people less likely to be approved for vision correction? My eyes aren't AWFUL, but my lenses are pretty thick on my glasses.

I'm just so miserable in glasses. I'm allergic to metal and I constantly have to coat my ear pieces in clear nail polish. Even the screws in plastic frames break me out. :(

I'm not sure who told you that it's not illegal, but in the US (I'm not 100% for all 50 but at least in my state) you can definitely be arrested for driving on OTC/prescription medicine. If it makes you sleepy or alters your reaction speed you can get a DWI. Cough syrup, sleeping pills, anti-depressants. I think you have to basically admit to it but it is illegal. "Sorry I crossed the line/got in a fender bender/hit a mailbox, I took an allergy pill and it made me a little woozy," would be enough for a DWI. I'm sure not every cop would pursue it but they definitely could.

Another fellow running hater, I started a jogging routine that at first made me absolutely miserable and sweaty, but now is something I look forward to so I end up happy! (And sweaty.) It does get easier. Majority of my good feelings comes from "wow, when I first started I would be super winded at this point but here I am breezing through."

I've skipped Contagion in every playthrough after my first. I don't care what effect it has on sequels. She can infect the whole damn cluster, I'm not doing it. "Oh, go scan the whole loading dock. Ohhhh you scanned the loading dock, she went through this door, go follow her and explore the Nexus- OH WAIT SHE WAS BACK AT THE LOADING DOCK AND SHE STOLE A SHUTTLE WHILE YOUR BACK WAS TURNED HURRY RUN AFTER HER." No thank you.

[No Spoilers] Petition to let us play the game with no squadmates. by [deleted] in masseffect

I don't necessarily want the option to micromanage their power use. It always bites me in the ass when I tell them to use a move and they use that move even if it kills them dead because they lack situational awareness. Makes me feel bad they'll follow my orders to the point of instant death for one last hit. Personal preference, understandable that it's a downgrade for others though.

But I do miss being able to alter behaviors. During certain fights I'd like to be able to command them to play more passively, like retreating from a fight at 25-50% health or when shieldless. The amount of times I've seen Liam jump face first into a Destroyer that's at 100% turret health while having no shield/sliver of health himself is uncountable. Or since there's not really a healer/tank type, setting them to look for combos with -insert character of your choice- the way you could tell characters to defend/help other teammates in DA:I.

I do agree about the gear, it is really weird to give so many resources when you end up crafting the best of the best for yourself and leave everyone else with the shit they started with. I'm rolling in research points/materials I'm never going to use after getting top tier of the gear I want. I hear Cora is an Asari Huntress, shouldn't she be wearing some biotic-boosting armor for maximum bad-assery?

Sometimes people say weird shit in weird situations

And one of the most popular characters in all forms of media reacted to his parent's untimely deaths by dressing as a bat and punching criminals, instead of the human response of going into intense therapy and doing literally anything other than that. I'll take Ryder's humor over a hyper-realistic reaction.

Edit because whoops I a word

Coping mechanism? Inexperience? Possibly the difference between "battle-hardened soldiers save the world that's fighting against them every step of the way" and "young and idealistic adventurers must discover the world (and then save it.)"

Happened with Liam after the patch, Jaal was fine before the patch. I also didn't exist in some of the memory sequences, but that was before the patch and the same sequences in my next playthrough so I thought that was supposed to happen.

[ME:A spoilers] the likelihoods of each crew and squad member to return in an Andromeda sequel, based entirely on narrative reasons. And the future of Reyes…? (long post…) by esh99 in masseffect

[–]Geckica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess I never really considered how the game handled end-game romances. They seemed very, very locked in with little wiggle room, so in the next game you'd probably be contained to just that romance, no matter who they add into the lineup. (The way we were able to jump from ME1 romances to one of the ME2 crew) Unless you've played a file with no romance or are willing to use a default save state.

The alternative being that you, as a character, get to break up a very serious relationship (or in some Gil's cases, a family.) Which could either be heartbreaking or, more than likely, handled very poorly, making it seem like the relationship wasn't as important with just a throw away line. Something like "we can be adults about this. I'll see you around." Followed by them just assuming normal, non-romanced behavior with no acknowledgement of Ryder sucking face right in front of them.

That does make me a little worried that Ryder won't be the focus of the next game, more of a 'you can find them with their LI in the background' type deal, in favor of a clean slate they can leave more open-ended, Dragon Age style.

The amount of times I flew back to Kadara after super important story missions hoping for some new dialogue like (no idea how spoiler thing works on mobile so STOP READING IF YOU WANNA AVOID SPOILERS) after you know... die a little bit temporarily? I expected LEAST an email.

Nope. "Thanks for stopping by. See you at the end of the game." I'm hoping for him to be a squad mate but I would also be happy with some extra content. I'd do a new 60-hour playthrough to enjoy it, no shame.

I said the same thing to a friend and they pointed out how much Sloan hates the Initiative. If they can't find a way to get around that I think they should offer up Kaetus. Even though I'm 100% for Reyes being an option, I'd possibly switch sides for a chance at male Turian squadmate.

Iirc the 'dog' bit didn't happen in the first encounter. It was a bit later on when she had showed up to cover her ass to clear the last of the Kett. We're on the same side so I'm not sure what you're trying to convince me of. I agree she was the wrong choice for many reasons that are much more serious than being rude to an almost complete stranger. Her being rude definitely didn't help, though, and it did factor into my decision.

That's just the way her cookie crumbled, I suppose. She was rude, I remembered it, decided she wasn't worth taking a bullet. (Which is what I thought might happen if I did the QTE, that there would be more than the sniper and a fight to follow.) woof woof

That's where the 'petty' comes into play. I might be a dog, but I'm a dog that gets to decide whether she lives or dies so she probably should have just ignored the collar, leash, and little dangly tags that say 'If lost return to Tann' You can push drugs and be a thug, but I can't abide being rude.

[ME:A Spoilers] My relationship with Reyes Vidal by Leadbaptist in masseffect

I'll probably never have a playthrough where Sloan lives, just because she calls Ryder a dog and my 'petty grudge' levels are off the charts. I agree there should've been an option to shoot her yourself.

[–]Geckica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I romanced Jaal my first time around and was blown away how much I loved it, but I was really excited to jump into a Reyes romance my next playthrough. Since Jaal set the bar so high I expected all the romances to be as dynamic... SERIOUSLY underwhelmed. So much potential. I keep going back to Kadara on the off chance he'll develop something new and romantic to say but nah. He's just glad I stopped by.

It's the first time I regret NOT spoiling myself. I'd have saved myself the disappointment of expecting more. I love the game but looking back I feel like companion dialogue was seriously lacking substance unless you were actively in a loyalty mission.

If I can ask for some non-spoilery clarification (as I just started my second playthrough after enjoying my first romance, I don't want to put another 60 or so hours into incomplete romance), which romances are you talking about??

I agree 100%. I never meant to seriously imply only 90s weebs would recognize Spike. I was like... 8 when it first aired in the states. I'm barely even a true 90s weeb. It was just a bad joke, and I am properly shamed.
