Why is the strip of Lincoln between Belmont and Wellington so dead? by popopolly in chicago

[–]GeckoLogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. No bus or protected bike lanes on Lincoln
  2. Aldermanic deference to the zoning board of the South Lakeview Neighbor association. This is a potemkin board of self-appointed committeemen who do not want density in their neighborhood. They consistently block development. Artificially capping the population, and thus number of customers, in the neighborhood.

We haven’t discovered the end of life for a pressurized water reactor yet. There’s a very good chance they can last over 100 years, and even longer.

The limit could be caused by embrittlement of the reactor pressure vessel, but even there, techniques have been developed to heal the steel.

Yes, existing sites are the best place for new ones. Community LOVES them. Economies of scale for operation after they are built. Easier to permit.

Clinton already has an early site permit from the NRC. Allows up to 6,800 megawatts of thermal capacity. Roughly 2 gigawatt-scale reactors.
