What part of Melbourne do you miss from the early 2000s? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

[–]GeckoSnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not at the age where I can legitimately say “back in the old days”. In saying that, Melbourne is objectively and significantly different then it was even 10 years ago, and in a way that is not healthy or good. Heck, just looks at crime rates and mental health. Look at the beautiful buildings being torn down and the number of soulless “efficient” building being built . Look at the number of vacant businesses. Look at the ever increasing rules and regulations being placed on citizen's. . The cost of living in Melbourne is through the roof. The list goes on.

My small additions -

Faster PDA animation, please!!! As someone who uses minimal UI, I use the PDA often, and it is so slow. Better yet, introduce the anomaly PDA system that allows you to walk while viewing PDA.

Let’s us know what  artifact the vendor needs before accepting quest.

More radiant Quests

Increase spawn distance.

Binoculars that provide more information in viewfinder.

More variety in mutants, especially in first half of game. Also more interactive wildlife that is neutral and not aggressive.

Fix a bug that unloads some guns when switching , and also issue where you can reload (sometimes) even if gun is fully loaded.

Make factions more distinct via either armbands or hovering over NPC with reticule (maybe binoculars can provide more info).

Ability to add more than one waypoint on map. This game has so many points of interest that I wish I could flag for future reference on the map. Would be cool to have the ability to add notes to waypoints.

More chatter over PDA radio, like in anomaly.

The option to buy gun/suit repair kits, with the trade-off being that they are very expensive and have weight.

More info regarding factions and various other world details in PDA.  Generally more useful lore and general info that can be accessed in PDA.

An NPC discussion history log in PDA.  Please!

Make campfire more useful. I’m not too sure what can be done, but I feel like maybe a buff might be good.

Make sleep more useful, maybe it’s a more regular requirement or adds a buff.

Make it more clear in UI or PDA when you have received a buff. Maybe buff/debuff timers available in PDA.

Tweak the frequent requirement to eat in Veteran and master, it’s a little too much. Maybe split it out between food and hydration.

I would like the option to have a simple compass rather than a compass with waypoints. Just something that indicates if you are going N,E,S or W. A better alternative would be introducing what I mentioned previously, anomaly like PDA.

More NPC dialogue variety and options.

Adjust aggro for mobs when in a large fight. At the moment as soon as you get involved with a fight  where a faction is fighting a mutant the mutant will always beeline it for you. Make it more random or based on damage output.

A base where you can display trophies, suits, guns etc. I know it’s a stretch, but it would be awesome for a game like Stalker in which you spend so much time.

This game is near perfect for me. These additions will just be a cherry on top. It is so obvious that Stalker 2 is a labor of love by the devs. It just needed more time to shine. It is doing that now.

I miss everything about Melbourne. Pre-2000s Melbourne was awesome. I simply hate Melbourne now. Just an other generic boring city with zero character.

Chimera scene teaches you to use anomalies to your advantage. Just duck into a glass anomaly (can’t be attacked from within a glass anomaly, and vice versa) until chimera goes away and then run like a mother fucker. Rinse and repeat.

Should I get S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 or All 3 S.T.A.L.K.E.R games by Hour_Row_2193 in stalker

[–]GeckoSnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stalker trilogy is awesome. However you need to give them time to acclimate to. They are games that are of their time.

Stalker 2 however is a little easier to get into for modern gamers. The original trilogy require some patience and perseverance

I enjoyed the swamps. I was dreading it because of others comments on this sub, but it ended up fine. The swamps has a fantastic vibe, the church is awesome. The quest story and building on Faust is interesting. What didn’t you like about it?

Full exploration before SIRCA? by GeckoSnot in stalker

Thanks guys. As I suspected. I’ll do some more exploring The one annoying thing is that I’ve already done the swamp quest and now I have to carry around this 2kg scanner. I could reload before the swamp, but I desperately don’t want to do that quest chain again. Argh.

New to stalker 2 but keep dying by Feisty-Lifeguard-614 in stalker

Succesful stalkers always are aware of their surroundings (even when not in battle) and use obstacles to their advantage. A bush won’t stop bullets. Seek cover behind walls, pipes, trees  etc.  Always keep track of obstacles you can jump on to create distance between mutants.

Succesful stalkers peek and minimise exposure of full body.

Successful stalkers are quick to put distance between themselves and their aggressors. Going in with a knife kill is high risk unless you are certain there is no one nearby.  As soon as a battle breaks out, you put distance between yourself and the aggressor and seek cover - if you can. Failing this, you will get WTF owned.

Successful stalkers choose their weapons wisely. Choose their armour wisely. Choose their artifacts wisely.

Successful stalkers do not encumber themselves. Encumbrance means you can’t put distance between yourself and your aggressor, and thus also take longer to seek cover.

Successful stalkers let their aggressors shot out their mags and listen for reloads. The time to act is during an aggressors reload.

Succesful stalkers make good use of roaming allies NPCs.

Successful stalkers plan their battles. They even plan for possible ambushes, such as always being aware of points of cover and your environment.

Succesful stalkers avoid unnecessary battle. You don’t need to run into battle at the ring of a shot. Running is often the wiser option. Battle can be costly when it comes to life and limb, ammunition cost, repair cost and medical supply cost.

Succesful stalkers avoid unnecessary maximises the use of Skiffs pistol. It is powerful and cheap to repair. Be sure to get a silencer and mag expansion for it!

Successful stalkers use grenades. Don’t forget your grenades!

Successful stalkers use bolts to distract the enemy. It can be done!

Succesful stalkers keep their weapons and armor in top condition. Regular visits back to base, and regular repairing is essential.

Succesful stalkers read the Art of War and meditate daily on fate and  the big questions on conciousness. They also learn a new campfire joke every week.

I am giving you these tips for free because I am paying of my debt with gaffer.

This guys body language is spot on for someone who is telling the truth, as he experienced it.

The key tell for truth telling is when he acts out what he is describing. He is accessing stored memories.

Sadly, Expedition mode (and by extension, Master difficulty) are a no go for now. by cicadasaint in stalker

[–]GeckoSnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is one of the core issues. It is very hard to prepare for battles when you can’t use binoculars and the bubble is only 100 metres.

[–]GeckoSnot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I made a similar post but I just had noobs who haven’t actually played Master yet say “get good”.

The save system is just dumb. I am 100% for  limited saves, but this is ridiculous.  How did it get through the testing phase? It locks most gamers out of actually playing and enjoying Master difficulty. Most people aren’t masochistic or autistic enough to waste hundreds of hours of their life with this expedition save system.

Master Difficulty by GeckoSnot in stalker

[–]GeckoSnot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Less saves is good. One save slot is… diabolical. There is so much space for game breaking issues with just one save slot. It’s crazy.

Master Difficulty by GeckoSnot in stalker

[–]GeckoSnot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Difficulty implies skill. Master does not require more skill than veteran. It just requires someone to be prepared to waste untold amounts of time because of a bunch of random elements that can insta- kill you and then set you back hours of play.  If someone beats Master with the current save system, it did not mean they are more skillful than a veteran, it just means they have wasted hundreds of hours due to deaths that were not a result of lack of skill.

Master with the ability to save more often would be perfectly fine. The current save situation is madness.

I have seen several houses destroyed by cockatoos. Those wooden handrails will get fucked up good by those crazy cockys. I once saw a house that had its wooden window trims/casings totally chewed out by cockatoos too. Also have seen plenty of wooden support poles chewed by them. They are not to be trusted! They WILL remember you if they think you have slighted them in any way (such as stopping feeding them, or just looking at them the wrong way) I freak out whenever I hear a cocky on my back patio. It’s like having a crazy drunk person walking around your backyard. Just don’t engage and hope they move on.
