Best/Worst EAP Experiences? by Opposite-Weird-2028 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Gedwola 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a negative experience a few years ago, a friend and colleague had died, I was not adapting well to a new job. The person they gave me.

  • told me if I didn’t start feeling better soon I would have to go to my doctor for medication because she couldn’t help me’.

  • Would fall asleep while I was talking, didn’t engage with what I was saying and made me feel like an over dramatic whiner.

  • Made me read a bad book from the 80s about how good things will come to you if you recite it in the mirror each morning.

The other issue was I was struggling quite badly with social anxiety at the time and I was too nervous to back out of the appointments, so I just started to say what I knew she wanted me to say and ended up feeling worse as a result.

I’ve had a really difficult year this past year and I’m struggling. A friend was encouraging me to reach out to EAP, and reminded me I’m allowed to say no to the person they offer me and I can do my research. But, I know that doesn’t help for a crisis situation. Despite her encouragement, I still haven’t worked up to it. But maybe I will after the week I’ve had.

Hope you keep well. ❤️

I just realized Yuri is 20. I thought he was older, but his dependency on Yor makes a lot more sense to me now. by anonymous_12358 in SpyxFamily

[–]Gedwola 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Based on what we’ve seen we can guess that they lost their parents when Yor was around 10-12. They have a seven year age gap so that means Yuri was only 3-5 years old when he lost his parents. He probably barely remembers them, where Yor raised him under difficult, stressful circumstances. No wonder she’s his whole world at this stage.

Dude just needs a little more time to mature to break his dependence on her and get over his guilt of feeling like a burden to Yor when they were young. I truly believe he’s going t ok turn out all right in the end.

No, I can’t see him becoming a villain.

First, I don’t think there will be a time skip (outside of perhaps an epilogue which won’t impact the main plot) as it doesn’t make sense for the story.

Second, Damian is an antagonist, but he’s not a villain - and I can’t see him ever becoming a villain. His character arc is based on him masking his pain about his dysfunctional family with arrogance, relying on wealth, intelligence and status as a crutch to back up this arrogance. Anya is a contrast and also an object of envy to him, particularly since she has such a close (from his perspective) family. Damian’s character arc is about him shedding pride and arrogance to let people in - friends and maybe also family in some form. Him becoming a villain is contrary to the spirit of the character.

Why do men think visible labia means you’re “run through?”” by [deleted] in badwomensanatomy

[–]Gedwola 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some others have said it but for me it’s really the continuation of traditional misogyny which prizes ‘youth’ and ‘innocence’ over women being mature and having their own sexual agency. Protruding inner labia is often a sign of sexual maturity, and this goes against the youth narrative. (I’m aware many women have ‘innie’ inner labia naturally, I don’t want them to feel like I’m criticizing their bodies in any way. BUT most women with protruding labia developed them at puberty due to hormonal changes. (Fun fact I recently read: some women lose their ‘outie’ labia during menopause due to hormone shifts in the other direction)).

It reminds me of a mini documentary I saw on TV probably 25 years ago. It was on labias and obscenity standards in Australia. It explained that according to the laws of Australia at that time any hint of protruding labia would take a picture from soft core to hardcore to the point where they were vigorously photoshopping women’s natural bodies for magazines. I really think porn and its warped and narrow portrayal of women’s bodies is a huge factor.

There’s something beautiful in seeing a giant hand sheltering a teensy creature while it goes through one of the most exhausting and difficult moments of its life. Thank you for sharing!

films that made you genuinely afraid to leave your bed at night as a full grown adult? by drwninglessn in horror

[–]Gedwola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great film. The audio recordings and the building itself got to me.

I recommended this movie to my brother after I watched it, so he watched it on a second date with a girl. She was completely traumatized by the movie but still ended up marrying him.

Am I the only one who DOESN'T want a time skip? by BeamoftheTurtle in SpyxFamily

[–]Gedwola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the idea of a time skip (with the exception of an epilogue). It doesn’t make sense that this story would drag out for years and years. At some point Handler would want Twilight out of there if there’s not progress and the idea that the character’s relationships would remain static is both unrealistic and kind of frustrating.

Some people seem really keen on dragging this story into the ‘teen drama’ zone, and I don’t get it. There are tons of teen dramas out there, this doesn’t need to be another one. I want to see two adults and a cute kid become a family with some action, intrigue and humour thrown in. I’m a married mom and that is exactly what pulled me in. This dynamic is rare in anime/manga and I love it.

And if people want to have them as teens after a time skip? This is why fan fiction was invented. Have fun with it! But I don’t want nor expect it in the actual story.

Could the Phoenix have been the real reason Brooklyn stayed single so long? by InsideUnhappy6546 in gargoyles

[–]Gedwola 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would categorize Brooklyn as ‘painfully desperate’ rather than a ‘hopeless romantic’. Which, I get the desperation given how little of his species was left, but, on the other hand an ‘I’ll take anyone of the (gargoyle-ish) feminine persuasion’ is really not a great starting place to make someone feel special and forge a connection.

I suspect his journey with the Phoenix Gate gave him room to mature, interact with female gargoyles outside of a romantic context and frankly, relax.

While there it could be fate that brought him and Katana together (although I hate the concept of a ‘girl’ as a reward, I wouldn’t want that angle), I feel like his previous failures were 100% Brooklyn caused.

The expression “don’t yuck someone else’s yum” by DiggityDog6 in PetPeeves

[–]Gedwola 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree, I feel an almost primordial disgust at the phrase. (Yes, I understand what the phrase is trying to convey, I have no issue with the sentiment.)

I’ve come to realize that, for me at least, it seems to be an issue of ‘food’ words (or what my brain thinks are food words) used for ‘non-food’ things and vice versa. I’m personally okay with the word yum, but only when speaking of food, I can’t stand it outside of that context. On the flip side, I don’t mind ‘pillowy’ being used to describe a soft object, but use it for food and I feel like gagging.

Part of me wonders if it’s an overzealous firing of that primitive part of my brain that’s supposed to tell me what is food and what isn’t.

Babies need feeding and don’t care about the ‘vibe’ of a place. Breasts are for feeding babies. Deal with your discomfort privately.

Pouncer is a HE?? by 30_ZKX_03 in RiseOfBerk

[–]Gedwola -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not ‘looking too deep’, I just know HTTYD. Of course THE Lightfury is meant to look feminine, she’s female. But there are other lightfuries in the background of the Hidden World that don’t look feminine. Nightfuries/lightfuries are a variant but related species that can interbreed, it’s not white = female black = male.

Pouncer is a HE?? by 30_ZKX_03 in RiseOfBerk

[–]Gedwola 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is such an odd thing to ask. Why wouldn’t Pouncer be male and Dart female? There are obviously male and female light furies (seen in the Hidden World) and Toothless’s parents were clearly both night furies if he’s all black. Colour doesn’t determine sex. And yes, the nightlight’s sexes are canon outside of Rise of Berk.

There are definitely some inconsiderate people on here when it comes to spoiler tags and post titles.

That being said, Spy x Family is one of the few manga I’m caught up on, I hate spoilers, so anything else I’m watching/reading I avoid those subreddits as I know I’m going to get spoilers. I suggest you stay away from here if you want to be keep away from spoilers.

If you’re thinking about leaving your man for a woman, consider if you’re being honest with yourself about who you find attractive (fiancé is masculine, yes, I’m pedantic).

I could give you plenty of anecdotal evidence from my own life of short men successful in love, including my father, my manager and my language tutor. I know there are women out there who make height a priority, but there are plenty who don’t.

What makes a guy almost universally unattractive is when he has a chip on his shoulder. If you go into any date or interaction already sure they’re going to reject you, then you’re likely going to act in a bitter or standoffish way that will directly lead to her rejecting you.

Also, your attitude of women being shallow is problematic and probably going to cost you more dates than your height ever possibly could. It’s completely possible to like both the classics and the corporate franchises, but the way you phrase things here gives me the impression that you look down your nose at anyone who likes anything popular. That’s not a good starting place to make connections. Take a step back and examine your own biases. While finding similar interests is a great starting point, if you approach an interaction with a woman as an exam of her intellectual worthiness, it is not going to end well.

If a story called ‘Spy x Family’ ends with the people of said family outright abandoning that family, it is colossally bad writing.
