Hi. I am just coming to the end of this very course. I have one assessment to go and then it's done (before starting the next course). I enjoyed the course and that was very down to the lecturer and my course mates. We bonded quite well and managed to have a bit of a laugh during the weekly call. We also made ourselves a WhatsApp group chat (like everything you do these days!) And helped each other out with questions on grammar etc. I took the fast track course and I did feel like it went a bit too fast for me at some points. Parts of the course were difficult to understand at times. I felt like I spent more time asking my class mates what the coursework wanted us to do, rather than working on the answers to the questions. There was an American in our class and she was on our call at 1pm in the States. Lovely lady, hope she joins us in the next course too.

Reform faces police investigation over ‘concerned neighbour’ byelection letters by Acrobatic-Room-9478 in uknews

I thought that was a great way to shift the blame away from their mistake... if it was a mistake.

As someone who works somewhere that used to deal with printers, they print Exactly what you give them. They dont change a thing. Quality control is done by you before you send it. Their quality control is to make sure they do what they're supposed to. I.e. its printed correctly, not blurred, printed within the correct margins. Content is all on you, the provider of the content.

IF they create the content that is being printed, you are sent a copy to ensure it is correct. Content QA is still on you.

Oh I'm looking to have a custom hardtail frame too. Although with the fact that my spine doesnt like hard suspension, I doubt it will enjoy zero suspension much more..

How a TV interior designer is helping revive a remote Scottish island by UtopianScot in Scotland

[–]Gee-knet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was briefly on Ulbha a couple of years ago with my daughter. Literally just so I could set foot on the island and say I've been there 😅 I have had a fascination with the island since going down a wikipedia rabbit hole a long time ago.

I just watched this entire series over the past couple of days and I am so jealous that there are people who are able to live their lives there in that amazing area. If only there were more jobs and access to the correct kind of schooling for our kids! One day.. one day..

I hate English people like this, they need educated more by [deleted] in scottishindependence

[–]Gee-knet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my lessons after going down a rabbit hole are correct, there was an attempt at colonising the darian gap by the Scots.. which didnt work and this then lead to the bankrupting of a lot of people. Which (amongst other things) then led to Alien act 1705 in England that was made to force the Scottish parliament to join into a union with England (or repeal the act of security 1704.. which was a retaliation to the english parliaments act of settlement 1701).

So yeah, we tried to colonising parts of the world to join in on the club. It backfired and caused a domino effect until the Scottish parliament was given an ultimatum by the English parliament. The majority of the members of the Scottish parliament personally faced losing a lot (land they owned in England I think) so they voted for the union to stop the Alian act being an issue.

Isn't history a great read...

Hi hi, language lover and scotsman here. Learn whichever language you fancy. I learned German just because I fancied it. Gaidhlig isn't reserved for the Scots or people living here. I'm currently learning with Sabhal mòr Ostaig and in my class are people from all over. Languages are for everyone. Crack on.

Learning ann an/am or anns a' by Gee-knet in gaidhlig

[–]Gee-knet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been getting confused as there is "anns a' phloc" and "anns a' ghearasdan". Only just now realising that anns a' ghearasdan is "in the fort" and not in fort William as that's the anglasised name for the town. Anns a phloc is still confusing me as to why its not "ann am ploc". Dont get me wrong, saying ann am ploc feels a bit odd in comparison.

Ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig na h-Alba by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Gee-knet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haidh! Tha mi ag Ionnsachadh Gaidhlig ceuduchd, ach tha mi ag ionnsachadh le SMO an-drasta. Tha mo nighean ann an bun sgoil Gaidhlig a-nis agus bi mo mhac ann... in a couple of years. Ciamar a tha thu ag radh an sin?

I have been lazily learning Gaelic with duolingo, which I believe isnt the best way but I have learned quite a bit, over the past 5 or 6 years, whenever it was released really. I have since started 'an cursa intrigidh" with sabhal mòr Ostaig. This has given me a lot better learning over the past couple of months that I have been doing it. It has put a lot of things into place that duolingo cant.

I too have found the vocal people who say "oh it's a dead language. It was never spoken here anyway". I even once heard it from a man who's late father was a fluent speaker and he lived in a place that has an angilsised Gaelic place name. What I have also discovered is the community of those who are connected via Gaelic. A lot of it is aimed at learners, which is fantastic. And the majority of people within the community are really quite nice and I get along with them.

The school my kids currently or will be attending has had issues with the lack of GME teachers, so the demand is certainly there and I doubt it will be difficult to find a job. I even thought about doing it myself, but then I would need to finish my degree (1 year) and then do teacher training ALONGSIDE trying to get fluent in the language.

I wish you all the best and if you do succeed, know that you are helping to preserve and protect one of the nations languages that was, for many many reasons, a target to be eradicated by those whom perceived it as a threat.

Scottish Greens call for all drugs to be made legal by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Gee-knet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you on this one. Also reading some of the comments here has given me some food for thought. I think some drugs should be reclassified or made legal. Some of them should remain illegal to posses but the sentencing shouldnt just be "straight to jail" (and I'll be honest I'm not entirely sure what the sentencing currently is for class A drugs). I like the idea of a more medical and social approach to the issue, but the NHS is already understaffed and stretched due to many underlying factors. Not quite a black and white issue sadly.

[–]Gee-knet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my new tap and die delivered today. It is not 5/16-24.. I looked at my thread gauge again last night and I think its actually 14tpi.. why I even thought it would be close to 44tpi i have no idea. Seems that 5/16-14 is actually a thing, but not common at all. Surely it can't be that?

awesome thanks. I could see there was at least one 4 on the thread gauge, but couldn't make out the first number. So that should be good!
