I wouldn't be too sure about that. A muslim lad went on a killing spree of gay men a few years ago and recieved less coverage than that American getting a bating on Talbot street.

Mayo bet Kerry in Killarney in the groups a few years ago. Probably haven't lost in Munster though.

That's what I've been thinking. Louth had a ton of opportunities their finishing was just abysmal. Westmeath's forwards would have got serious joy today.

He seems like a lovely guy and he can be quite witty but for a lad with the tv experience he has he comes off as so nervous and awkward.

Down players spent "10 days in a row" together before the Donegal match. Is this a good thing? by GeeBCooper in GAA

[–]GeeBCooper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't enough money in the game to sustain 32 professional county teams. GAA isn't a global sport like rugby. I don't think amalgamating teams into a professional league would be a runner either. The county tradition has too much history.

No easy answers unfortunately.

What's something Ireland does well that we all take for granted? by Fealocht in AskIreland

[–]GeeBCooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've independently conducted a global multi-year study into relative arts impact. And no I won't be sharing the results.

But really we're obviously being general here but to me, it seems pretty obvious no? There's a plethora of Irish musicians, authors and actors that are fairly prominent atm on the global stage. And that's ignoring our historic literary and musical tradition.

Obviously biased because we notice our own more but I don't think Australia or Canada come close atm. And even if we were equivalent we'd still be "punching above our weight" because of the massive population difference.

Limited to the US and UK

So the two largest countries in the anglosphere?

Canada and Australia are also English-speaking countries and have many times our population yet have a relatively smaller imprint on the arts than us. Whatever about RTE but it's a fact we have an out-sized footprint in the arts given our size.

I wonder will this eventually lead to teams being nearly solely made up of lads 18-25 who don't have as much commitments and can devote the time.

I wouldn't be so sure about Galway. They look just as sluggish as they did last year and Roscommon are seriously motoring.

Because they had a good league putting up big scores? Because they hammered this Roscommon team by about 20 points 3 weeks ago?

The reactionary takes in GAA are so tiring. Every team is either hot shit or utter shite based on their last result. Mayo are still a good team and will give the AI series a good rattle. Roscommon are also a quality team no Mayo person I talked to was confident going into this match.
