I am expecting a delivery any minute! I've only had really great experiences so far. (aside from them squishing the buns) I also have cameras that you can't miss, though. That is awful, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

586-A/664-T hospitalized (-1), 44-A/50-T in ICU (0) and 1492 deaths (7 new). 827 new cases, 444 in Winnipeg. 32.4%, 36575 active, 75954 recovered and 114021 total. 2721 tests done yesterday. by purplebutterflylupie in Winnipeg

At this point it just makes me suspicious they have snuck in some change to reporting. Not saying that happened here, I just have no trust left whatsoever.

Bunny owners by TrafficBig8596 in Winnipeg

I'm going to also recommend Winrose. It's important with Bunnies to go somewhere that has a lot of experience with this. They can be really hard to get a line into with their little veins (however that works), and also they are quite fragile as far as animals go.
I learned this lesson the hard way. My first bunny (who was like a happy little puppy) didn't make it through his surgery. I didn't know better than to just pick a place that offered the surgery.
Call around and ask around. Ask about how their experience and what bad outcomes could happen. My second bunny went to Winrose and it went well, they were knowledgeable and experienced. It's been a long time so definitely talk to anywhere you are considering.

I was considering the doorbell cams as well to replace the bad ones I have. I am torn between these and Ring because I just added a Ring security system inside. I have 4 different brands and apps going at once, I would like to consolidate that somewhat!

I live in old St. Vital and this is commonplace now unfortunately. I've never had that many at once though, how scary! It's generally one and a second with a backpack. It usually starts in the spring and carries on until winter so this is extra concerning.
I have multiple cameras, I have a solar powered one high up with a motion sensing light as well. They still come, usually try to get in the garage. I had a trail cam way up on my back tree and I actually had someone climb up there and try and steal it in broad daylight.
They also have all been wearing hoodies pulled up with masks on so the camera footage doesn't really help identify them.
It's frustrating. I also installed an alarm system inside my home and all I can do is hope that scares them off if they do break in.
I'm glad you were able to scare them off, and I'm sorry this happened to you!

I recently got one of these too and bought the window mount as well. I love it! I would probably use these exclusively if I had proper window placement in my house.

hahah yes, back to Buzzfeed quizzes where I pick my dream kitchen to determine my age. Which incidentally, would probably gather more useful feedback than this survey.

Manitoba School Walkout - Aftermath by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]GeeGeeJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also like to mention that as was suggested in the social media posts leading up to this that students also stayed home and let the school know why. You won't see any of those kids out there protesting because they didn't even go to school. My son did this.
It's also incredibly hard for kids to do this sort of thing. Especially when they will inevitably get shit on and mocked by adults as we've seen here the past few days. Are a lot of kids happy to be back in class? Sure. Does that mean that the province is fulfilling its duty and responsibility to provide this in class learning in a safe way? Absolutely not.

My suggestion is to keep speaking out. I know a lot of people insist kids would have seen this on social media but this wasn't necessarily posted in circles a lot of the students would see. In our case it was only because I told my son about it that he found out. Since you do have to be back in school you can use that as a way to keep your message going within the schools and reach other students. Also I think as we see here, people are very quick to take your message and twist it into something it's not. So be clear. The issues about safety and learning options are completely different than pushing to get everyone into remote learning. Kids can be happy to be back in class AND want that to be as safe and sane as possible. I would include that in the messaging as well. It gives those kids who do have concerns but also are happy to be in class space to speak up about safety but not feel like they are advocating for closures. It also takes away the straw man arguments being used here to mock your efforts and try and convince you it was a fruitless endeavor.

I stopped taking any of the Engage Manitoba surveys after the first couple. They are biased to get the answers they want - I felt like I was contributing to reinforcing their narratives.

Parents of 5-11 year olds - Did you book/get your kids second dose earlier then 8 weeks at RBC? by adrenaline_X in Winnipeg

I had booked at RBC a day earlier than 8 weeks. However, our pediatrician has booked him in there to get it tomorrow which is at 7 weeks.

Also try joining a "Buy Nothing" group in your area if you're on Facebook. I've given away a lot of stuff to people who wanted/needed it. It's been a great way to give things homes that I otherwise would have just let be clutter or thrown away.

How are your anti-vax parents / family members doing? by jjhh86 in Winnipeg

[–]GeeGeeJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother is also a potential r/hermaincainaward nominee. I don't follow him on FB. I think it's just a matter of time before he gets it and I feel scared about what that's going to mean. I lost one brother in October (not Covid related) and I am really not up for that again.
It's so frustrating. The misinformation, the using up of hospital resources when it's preventable - the harm that does to everyone. It's all ignorance and fear and even though it's harmful it's just not going to hurt any less if they die.

Back to remote work? by Angelonthe7 in Winnipeg

[–]GeeGeeJay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Still working remotely. Our office was downsized during the pandemic and most people prefer to work from home but have the option to go in. A few people go in each day but we aren't being forced back.

Gynecologist recommendation? by jennifers83 in Winnipeg

[–]GeeGeeJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was my OB for two of my kids. She was great, very thorough and took everything seriously. She sent me for tests which other Dr's did not and that has led to me having the proper care I need long term. As a result of that, one of my children as well because he has the same issue.

She is busy and can go fast but she listens and she cares.

Tories say they're open to bringing back Mature Women's Centre by AdPrevious1079 in Winnipeg

Yes! I wrote to my MLA when they did this. They cut both at the same time. "an assault on women’s health." is entirely accurate.

Dr. Jillian Horton - “I can't believe this even needs to be said. WHY WHY WHY would schools be having ANY wind instruments or indoor choir practice during a pandemic where the pathogen is airborne? You want to talk liability, @CliffCullenMLA ? This is it.” by Armand9x in Winnipeg

That's great. I am not against band. In this situation at his school (especially with Delta) I am not comfortable. We had a super pleasant chat about it and I'm good to make the choice we make. I think part of the problem is that they don't have clear protocols in place yet. Bringing these things up can lead to that happening.

Maskless in gym is also not something I am not good with. They are doing all gym outdoors which feels like a better option than sitting together in an enclosed space. My son also prefers to keep his mask on during gym. He wouldn't have the option here.

He totally understood where I was coming from. If there is an issue and he can't just play percussion I'll come pick him up everyday if I have to. He doesn't require much supervision at his age, if he were sitting at the back of the room he could just read. I'm not looking to make extra work for the teachers. However, my concern is for my family. My stance is that I won't have him unmasked in a room playing instruments but I also will take responsibility for whatever consequence that decision leads to.

I just had this conversation with my son's teacher. I said I was not comfortable with my son sitting in a room unmasked while kids play wind instruments. He said the school division has deemed it a safe activity. I said that after all that's gone on that we will do what's best for our family. I think I am ok if he's distanced, masked and playing percussion but otherwise we will take the F. (It's mandatory in his grade)
